Agnes Marie Kucera Polasek, age 100, of Wharton, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012 at a Richmond nursing center following a brief illness. She was born on May 19, 1912 in Hungerford, a daughter of the late John and Agnes Brandl Kucera.

 

Mrs. Polasek was reared in the Hungerford area and attended school there. She married Theodore Otto Polasek on Nov. 10, 1932 in Hungerford. He preceded her in death on Oct. 8, 1994. She was a homemaker all her life. Agnes also owned and operated the Little Inn in Wharton for many years. She prepared many lunches for the Wharton High School students who would visit the Little Inn during lunch. Agnes enjoyed cooking so much, she and her daughter co authored Cooking with Texas Grandmas.

 

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Martha Kovar; and brother, Simon Kucera.

 

A rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. today, Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2012 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton and a Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. today, Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton with Rev. Dominic Antwi-Boasiako officiating. Burial follows in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton.

 

Survivors include daughter, Agnes Marie Foster and husband, Logene, of Fulshear; sons, John Joe Polasek and wife, Emily, of Houston, Theodore Louis Polasek and wife, Mary Ann, of Conroe and Joe Allen Polasek and wife, Mary Ann, of Virginia; brother, Sylvester Kucera of Lumberton; grandchildren, Larry Lonnie and Lynn Foster, John T. Polasek, Carol Ann Hankins, Kristi Standish, Katherine Alvarez, Carla Wakefield, Tom Polasek, John Polasek, Joe Polasek and Jennifer Polanco; and 27 great-grandchildren.

 

Serving as pallbearers will be Larry Foster, Lonnie Foster, Lynn Foster, John T. Polasek, John J. Polasek, Tyler Polasek and Joe Polasek Jr.

 

Funeral services are under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.

Albina Matilda Domel Keszler, 85, passed away on September 25, 2012. She was born January 19, 1927 in Theon, Texas where she lived until 1930 when she and her family moved to the family farm along Possum Creek in Walburg, Texas. Albina grew up speaking Czech at home, learning English at school in Walburg, and attending Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Corn Hill for confirmation instruction. Albina and her sister worked outside the home caring for newborn babies, or gardening and cooking, and loved to go dancing. She married Harold Keszler in Corn Hill, Texas in 1955 and they moved to Austin, Texas to start their family. Albina and Harold had three sons. Albina worked for over 30 years at The Hills Café in South Austin, taking an 8-year break when she had her children. Albina lived in the same home for over 50 years. She enjoyed baking and cooking, passing on her favorite recipes to her family. Her Domel family ancestry is celebrated every summer in Walburg at the annual family reunions. Albina participated every year, and was a big contributor to The Domels of Texas book written by Linda N. Domelsmith and Edith Domel Bullock.

 

Albina was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Keszler; her son, Garry Keszler; her parents Friedrich "Fritz" and Mary Janosec Domel; sisters Marie Fennewald, and Frieda Bird.

 

She is survived by her sons, David (Rosalie) Keszler, and Billy Joe Keszler; her sister Martha Jacobson; brothers Joe Domel and Louis (Betty Jean) Domel; granddaughters Tiffany Keszler, Victoria Keszler and Alexandria Keszler; and step-grandson Shelby Rounsaville; as well as her loving cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

 

Albina's life will be celebrated at 11 AM on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Cemetery, Pflugerville. Visitation will be held from 8:30 AM-10:30 AM Saturday at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Funeral Home.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memorium to the American Lung Association, or Hospice Austin's Christopher House.

Alfons Mikuda, age 92, of West, passed away Thursday evening, December 27, 2012 at Providence Health Center in Waco.

 

A rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Boniface Onjefu as celebrant. Burial will follow at Fatima Cemetery near Abbott. The family will receive visitors from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday at Aderhold Funeral Home.

 

Alfons was born August 12, 1920 in Hill County, the son of Joseph and Hermina (Kallus) Mikuda. He attended St. Mary’s School. Alfons worked as a mechanic for Adams Chevrolet, Scott Chevrolet and the Alamo Garage until his retirement in 1982. He was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Abbott. Alfons enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, listening to Czech music, and listening to the stock market news. He especially loved watching sports.

 

Alfons is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Dorothy Sustala Mikuda.

 

Survivors include a special friend, Catherine Bajer of West; two sisters-in-law, Helen Sustala of Abbott and Annie Sustala of Round Rock; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

Pallbearers are Bill Sustala, Dennis Sustala, David Sustala, Ronnie Kaluza, Shane Kaluza, Jeremy Kolar, Brian Kaluza and Larry Bajer.

ALFRED H. LORFING

 

VICTORIA - Alfred H. Lorfing, 85, of Victoria, passed away on Dec. 25, 2012. He was born Dec. 4, 1927 in the Shiloh community of Lavaca County to Henry F. and Minnie Lorfing.

 

He married Eunice Marie Fojt on Sept. 27, 1947. After serving in the U S Army, he spent most of his adult life in Victoria working in the electrical trade and tending his cattle in Hallettsville.

 

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Eunice, a daughter Sandra Seals, two sons Alan & wife Debbie, and Neil & wife Janet, 2 sisters: Lucille Parker and Dorothy Lorfing, 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren

 

Alfred was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers: Oscar and Adolph, a sister: Selma Langenberg and a son-in-law, Greg Seals.

 

Funeral Service: 2 pm, Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at Kubena Funeral Home. Visitation: 4 pm, Friday at Kubena Funeral Home in Hallettsville. Officiate: Rev. James Pearson.

Allen Anthony Migura

Orange Grove, TX

 

Allen Anthony Migura of Orange Grove, Texas passed away on Monday, December 31, 2012 at the age of 71. He was born July, 2, 1941 in Orange Grove to Daniel and Lillian (Wostal) Migura.

 

Born and raised into farming and ranching, Allen worked with his dad for 10 years farming before being employed by Exxon Pipeline Company as an electrician/mechanic in Corpus Christi, Texas. His territory spanned the King Ranch and South Texas production areas. Allen retired with 33 years of service from Exxon Mobil Pipeline Company in 2005.

 

Throughout his life, Allen actively supported his home parish of St. John of the Cross Catholic Church in Orange Grove. Allen was one of the first Eucharistic ministers at St. John of the Cross Church to be chosen by Reverend Seamus McGowan and commissioned by Bishop Drury of the Diocese of Corpus Christi in 1980. He served his parish in this capacity for over 30 years. He also loved to sing at mass each Sunday with his family in the church choir. Allen served as Vice President of the St. John of the Cross Catholic Cemetery Association and was former President of St. John of the Cross Catholic Life Insurance local chapter.

 

Allen also served the community of Orange Grove as a volunteer fireman and as a Charter Member of the Orange Grove Young Farmer's Association. After retiring, Allen thoroughly enjoyed the great outdoors and loved fishing with his family. He returned to his farming roots by helping the 'Gwosdz Boys' in their farming operation and looked forward each week to spending time with the 'Saturday Morning Herschap Group'. He loved watching the Dallas Cowboys no matter whether they won or lost. He was an awesome home builder and could fix just about anything. Above all, Allen's greatest love was being with his family and taking an active role in his grandchildren's lives and activities.

 

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Catherine (Bednorz) Migura; two daughters, Cynthia (Migura) Schroeder and husband Todd of Pearland, Texas and Kim (Migura) Gallagher and husband, Owen of Orange Grove; six grandchildren, Steven Schroeder, Garrett Gallagher, Galen Gallagher, Karen Gallagher, Glen Gallagher and Klara Gallagher; two brothers Peter and Doris Migura and Joe and Cristi Migura both of Orange Grove and sister, Shirley and Gary Lambert of Caldwell, Texas.

 

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, January 3, 2013 at Holmgreen Mortuary with a Rosary to be recited 7:00 p.m.

 

Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 4, 2013 at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church. Interment will follow in St. John of the Cross Catholic Cemetery.

Bellinda Pustejovsky of El Campo died December 30, 2012 at the age of 73. She was born May 31, 1939 in El Centro, CA. She was a secretary for Rioux Hardware for over 40 years before retiring. She was a member of St. Philip Church and Catholic Daughters of America #1374, where she recently had served as secretary.

 

She is survived by her daughter Becca Socha and husband Darryl, and grandson Zach Socha, all of El Campo, her mother Ruth McFarlin of El Centro, CA.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband J. P. Pustejovsky, father William McFarlin and step-father Joe Elder.

 

A Memorial Mass will be held 4:30 pm Thursday, January 3, 2013, at St. Philip Catholic Church with Reverend Gary Janak officiating. The Catholic Daughters will have a rosary at 4:00 pm, prior to the Mass. Arrangements are under the direction of Triska Funeral Home.

Bernadette peacefully left this earth on Tuesday, December 25th. Our precious Lord chose to call this most Godly woman home on the holiest day of the year, His son’s birthday.

 

Bernadette was born on November 5th, 1935 in Sealy, Texas to Frank and Rosie Emilie Zapalac Vesely. As a young couple, Bernadette and her husband William Martin Pavlicek overcame great obstacles and created an incredible life and family. Bill worked for United Gas Pipeline while Bernadette (Gigi) so proudly assisted the residents at the Richmond State School where she served as a Physical Therapist Aide. Her kind and compassionate heart touched so many throughout her years on this earth. She truly was one who made this world a better place. St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Needville was most fortunate to have her not only as a member, but also as a dedicated servant to their congregation. She also served in the Catholic Daughters and American Legion Post 350 Ladies Auxiliary.

 

Even though Bernadette devoted many hours to working and volunteering, she never lost sight of the importance of faith and family. She led an exemplary life and her family feels incredibly blessed to have had a matriarch that epitomized God’s love on earth.

 

She is preceded in death by her husband, William Martin Pavlicek; her parents, Frank and Rosie Emilie Zapalac Vesely; her brothers, Frank Vesely and Alvin Vesely.

 

She is survived by her children, Debra K. Holmes and husband, Tommy Holmes of Beasley; Garry Pavlicek of Lake Jackson; Kelly Winkley and husband Scott Winkley of Richmond; grandchildren, Greg A.Holmes and wife, Nikki of Richmond; Megan Peck and husband, Brandon of Richmond; Jared Pavlicek of Lake Jackson, Emily Pavlicek of Lake Jackson, Cole Winkley of Richmond, Nick Winkley of Richmond; great grandchildren, Thomas and Matthew Holmes; brother, Daniel Vesely and wife, Karen of Sealy; sister, Josephine Bear and husband, Howard of Sealy; along with many other relatives and friends.

Mr. Doskocil was born November 23, 1968 in Temple to Calvin and LaVoyce Punchard Doskocil. He graduated from Rosebud-Lott High School in 1987 and TSTI in Waco with a degree in Diesel Mechanics. He married Leticia DeLeon on June 6, 1992. He worked for Linn Owen Trucking in San Saba as a diesel mechanic and truck driver.

EL CAMPO - Clara Mae Wied, lifelong resident of El Campo, passed away on January 1, 2013. She was born on May 13, 1926 in El Campo to the late Frank and Agnes Chvojka Hubenak. She was Food Service Director for El Campo IDS for over 30 years. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Pilot Club, Teachers Retirement Association and a Hospice volunteer.

 

She is survived by her husband of 66 years Albert Wied, son Larry Wied and wife Carol, grandsons Kevin Wied and wife Shawna, Matt Wied and wife Casey, great grandson Kyle Scott Wied all of El Campo.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Richard Hubenak.

 

Family will receive visitors on Thursday from 2 pm until 5 pm at Triska Funeral Home. Visitation will continue on Friday from 8 am until 1 pm at Triska Funeral Home. David Lee Maresh, age 71, of Nelsonville, Texas passed away surrounded by his loving family on December 30, 2012.

 

David attended Bellville schools and was a member of Nelsonville Brethren Church where he was baptized and confirmed. On February 10, 1963 he married the love of his life, Grace Garling in Cat Spring, Texas. David was a commercial plumber by trade. Upon retiring from the plumbing business David became a very meticulous bull dozer operator.

 

He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Grace Maresh of Nelsonville; three daughters Ruth Shedd and husband John of Nelsonville, Helen Chase and husband Rusty of Sealy, Brenda Draehn and husband Michael of Brenham; two sons Aaron “Bubba” Maresh and fiancée Rachael Smith of Sealy, Justin Maresh and wife Terri of Bellville; grandchildren Blake and Kathy Shedd, Samantha and Sterling Merryman, Felicia and Brian Horsley, Debra Chase, Erlan “Buddy” Chase and special friend Faith Ferreri, Kelsey, Amanda, and Shelby Draehn, and Jared Maresh; great grandchild Jagger Shedd. David is also survived by sister and brother-in-law Carolyn and Werner Oeser of Brenham, Aunts Alice H. White of Nelsonville, Eleanor Turner of Navasota, and his beloved dog, Stumpy.

 

David was preceded in death by his parents Edmund and Wilma Maresh, sister Janice Maresh, and an infant son.

 

David or Paw, as he was affectionately referred to by his grandkids was devoted to his family. He loved children, hunting, fishing, and anything outdoors. Paw also believed that anything could be cured with the right amount of candy, which he made sure to have on hand to give his grandkids when they were sick. Paw will be remembered for his love of animals and his whit will be carried on through his many unforgettable sayings.

 

Family and friends will gather for visitation on January 3, 2012 6:00-8:00 pm at Knesek Brothers Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held on January 4, 2012, 10:00 am at Nelsonville Brethren Church with the Rev. Michael Groseclose officiating. Interment will take place on January 4, 2012 at 11:00 am at National Cemetery.

FRIENDSWOOD - Dorothy Hamilton, 72, formerly of Victoria, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 30, 2012 after suffering from a long and debilitating illness. Dorothy was born on May 20, 1940 in LaSalle to the late John and Albina Chlastak

 

She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, as they were the LIGHT in her life.

 

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Donna Teague and husband, Mark; son, Scott Hamilton and wife, June; sisters, Ann Hagel, Stella Hardin, Bernice Yanta and Willie Voelkel and their families; grandchildren, John Matejek, Nathan Grizzoffi, Eric Grizzoffi, Riley and Josie Hamilton; great-grandchildren, Ryan and Rebecca Matejek and one special grand dog, Tobi, that always made her smile!

 

A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m on Thursday, January 3, 2012 at Grace Funeral Home.

Gilbert Krhovjak, 81, of Columbus, Texas passed away on January 5, 2013 in Columbus.

 

He was born on May 24, 1931 to John Leon Krhovjak and Ida (Starustka) Krhovjak in Novohrad, Texas. Gilbert was a farmer and rancher. On June 14, 1961 he married Grace Ann Kalmus.  He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Ellinger.

 

Gilbert is survived by his wife, Grace Krhovjak of Columbus, TX; daughter, Natalie Rodenbeck of Columbus, TX, son, Greg Krhovjak and Stephanie Caviness of Columbus, TX, and three grandchildren, Kyle Rodenbeck, Krystal Rodenbeck and Justin Krhovjak.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Leon Krhovjak and Ida (Starustka) Krhovjak, sister, Virginia Balusek and a nephew.

 

Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 9, 2013 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at St. Mary Catholic Church in Ellinger, Texas and with the Parish Rosary Wednesday at 7:00 pm.  Visitation on Thursday from 8:00 am to10:00 am at St. Mary Catholic Church in Ellinger.  Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 10, 2013, 10:00 am at St. Mary Catholic Church in Ellinger, Texas with Fr. Stephen Nesrsta officiating.  Interment will follow in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Ellinger. Pallbearers are James Korenek, L.J. Lillie A. Stastny, 85, of Inez, passed away on Sunday, November 25, 2012. She was born January 21, 1927 in Victoria County to the late Frank E. and Annie Till Stastny.

 

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 from 6-7 PM at Rosewood Funeral Chapel with a rosary to be recited at 7 PM. The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, November 28, 2012 at 2 PM at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Inez with Rev. Gabriel Bentil officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

 

Ms. Stastny is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Lucille Stastny and brothers, Anton, Joseph, Edwin, Julius Sr., Robert, Ernest and Alois Stastny.

 

Pallbearers will be James Stastny, Julius Stastny, Jr., Richard Stastny, Anthony Stastny, Joseph Stastny, Anthony Stastny, Gerald Stastny, David Simek and David Simek.

GANADO - Lillie G. Bothe, 89 of Ganado, passed away Sat. July 21, 2012. Born in East Bernard, Texas on Sept. 16, 1922 ,to the late Frank and Amalie Sedlacek. Lillie was a teacher's aide and nurse aid for the Ganado ISD.

 

Survivors include, son Bobby and Angie Bothe, 2 granchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

 

Preceded in death are her parents, husband Arnold, 3 sisters; Mary Garrison, Ella Sovinski and Emma Foch. 4 Brothers; Lawrence, Robert, Raymond, and George Sedlacek.

 

Visitation will Monday July 23, 2012 from 8:30 am till 10:00 am at the Assumption Catholic Church in Ganado. Rosary will recited at 9:30 am and Services will be at 10:00 am, with Fa. Michael Lyons officiating. Interment will follow in the Asumption Catholic Cemetery.

Linda Kay Glass Schiller, 52, of Temple, passed away August 12, 2012 at a local hospital. Services will be held Friday, August 17, 2012 at 10 am at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home Temple Chapel, with Pastor Denise Mikeska officiating. Burial to follow at Seaton Cemetery.

 

Linda was born January 30, 1960 to William and Jimmie Henson Glass in Temple, Texas. On January 28, 1993 Linda married the love of her life, Roy Schiller. Linda had many interests some of them included bingo, collecting oriental articles, cooking, and she loved flowers.

 

Linda is preceded in death by her father William Glass.

 

Linda is survived by her husband, Roy Schiller of Temple, her mother, Jimmie Glass of Temple, step daughter Bobbie Jo Schiller of Temple, 5 grandchildren, Eric Ramos, Ethan Ramos, Anthony Ramos, Michael Ramos, and Laralai Ramos.

LOIS GERLICH SMITH

 

VICTORIA - Lois Gerlich Smith, age 79, passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2012. She was born February 27, 1933 in Hallettsville to the late Adolph and Adele Stanzel Gerlich.   She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Altar Society, and Catholic Daughters of America Court of St. Ann.

 

She retired from VISD in 1993, and was a member of the Victoria County Retired Teachers Association. She was also a member of AARP and Senior Circle.

 

Lois "liked to GO" and always enjoyed going to the family farm in Hallettsville, and spending time with her sisters and their families. She was always ready to play a good game of dominoes, especially 42. She was very dear to her family and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

 

She is survived by her sisters, Earlene Gerlich Sari and husband Joseph of Conroe, and Estelle Barta and husband, Alvin of East Bernard; her nieces and nephews and their families: Susan , Cindy, David, Patricia, Robert, Sharon, and Ronald.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; and husbands, Charlie Pantel and George Smith.

 

Visitation will begin at 5:00 pm Thursday, June 21, 2012 at Colonial Funeral Home Chapel, and a Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm Thursday.  The Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 am Friday, June 22, 2012 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Patrick Knippenberg officiating.  Entombment services will be held 1:30 pm Friday in Hallettsville at the Sacred Heart Cemetery Mausoleum.

 

Serving as pallbearers will be Lindsay Clark, Jim Heffner, Ronald Barta, Ronald Janicek, David Barta and Joseph Sari. Honorary pallbearers are Alvin Barta and Robert Barta.

Lois Virginia Sobotik, beloved sister, aunt and friend, passed away on Friday, May 18 at the age of 86.

 

She was born on Jan. 5, 1926, in Schulenburg. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar J. and Edna Schaefer Sobotik. Upon graduating from Schulenburg High School, she moved to Houston and went to work for the Humble Oil Co., now ExxonMobil, from which she retired after over 35 years of service. Following her retirement, she travelled extensively with her friends from the ExxonMobil retiree club, tried out every new white-tablecloth restaurant in Houston while not forgetting her long-time favorites, and even learned to play the banjo so she could join a touring group. A devoted Roman Catholic, she was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic community for her entire adult life.

 

She is survived by her sisters, Theo Sobotik and Janice Sobotik Davidson and husband Jake; a brother, Joe Sobotik; niece, Julie Davidson; and other family members including Kristi Davidson Johnson and husband Michael, and their children Lauren Johnson and Paige Johnson.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial was held in Houston at St. Anne Catholic Church on Friday, May 25. A private family interment will be held at St. Rose Catholic cemetery at a later date.

Lillian was born April 12, 1931, in Nada to Peter and Frances Zaskoda. She was preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters.

Survivors: Children, Laura Lane, Andrew Celia, Karen Lane, Susan Celia, Christopher Celia, Anthony Celia; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Melanson, Regina Hammonds and Lucy Quinones.
