I forgot to mention that I also found a death record for Vavrince Levek who would have been a brother to your grandpa.  He died on February 2, 1882 at the age of 6 months, 26 days.

Hello,

I need help in finding the birth records of my grandfather Matous Levek in the Czech Republic.  My mother said that he was born in Prague, but all his records here in the States, had him from the village of Svatoborice, which is located in the Hodonin okres, South Moravian Region. He was born September 21, 1887. His father was Vavrinec Levek and mother was Antonie Nenicky.

Thank you,
Joe Levek

Nancy,
Thanks for taking the time to find those records on my family.  I had all of them with the exception of the marriage record.  I hadn't given that a thought to find the marriage record, since I have been searching for those elusive birth records of granddad Matous Levek.  I really want to have the proof of where he was really born.  For some reason, the records that my mother had, states that he was born in Prague.

I guess the birth records are not on line for that year just yet.  If you ever see them come on line, please notify me, just in case that I don't look often enough.

Joe Levek

Bernadette was released from Critical Care on Wednesday morning and sent to a private room (4435 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Bryan).  Yesterday an MRI was done to evaluate her tail bone, results were not real conclusive, so a cat scan was done today.  She does have an infection in the tail bone, but the bone should be viable and no further surgery on it should be required.  A biopsy will be done to zero in on the bacteria that needs to be fought with IV antibiotics.  All of her vitals are doing OK, but last evening she had an anxiety episode and her breathing got real bad.  She had a breathing treatment and slept through the night with her own bi-pap.  We really don’t have an answer as to why she had the serious CO2 poisoning attack that landed her in the Critical Care Unit, perhaps it was precipitated by her anxiety at this continuing saga.  She awoke in pretty good spirits this morning and was really elated to see that her sense of taste had started to return.  She ate relatively well for lunch and seemed to enjoy her meal.  We will have to await the bone biopsy, which we believe will be done in the room, then await the culture.  It appears we will be in the hospital until at least Monday, and then hopefully arrangements can be made with a home health care agency to help facilitate the IVs and handle the wound vac bandage changing.   We have been told that getting that bone healthy is key to continued healing of her sacral wound.  The thought of spending December and perhaps Christmas in the hospital is not very appealing.  Please continue in praying for her healing and also her determination to fight this fight.  It has been a roller-coaster and I know she is tiring of the ups and downs.

A 14-year-old Galveston girl drowned in shoulder-deep water near the 9th street rocks off the beach here Sunday and three other persons were rescued by alert guards during a busy, tiring Memorial Day afternoon.

The drowned girl is marie Anna Kossa of 2113 avenue H.

Beach Patrol officers worked over her body for more than two hours after she was pulled to shore.  Then Dr. James B. Stubs, summoned to the scene from John Sealy hospital, examined her and pronounced her dead.

The young girl was discovered by another bather, Raymond Wheeler of Kountz, Texas.  Wheeler brought her to shore and notified Lifeguard George Bertolino who began working over her immediately.

John DeVries, captain of the Beach Patrol, arrived with resuscitator equipment and continued working on the girl until there was no hope.

Justice of the Peace James L. McKenna and Dr. Norman D. Schofield, St. Mary's Infirmary pathologist, also arrived on the scene.  When the doctor pronounced the girl dead Judge McKenna ordered her body taken to the Malloy & Son funeral home.

The girl was identified by Vincent Sorrentino of 1424 avenue C. who runs a float stand on the beach front at 6th street.

Sorrentino told Capt. DeVries the girl came to the stand at about 12:30 p.m. and left her clothes there while she went swimming.  That was the last he saw of her, he said.

DeVries said no one saw the girl go under water.  Nothing was known of it until she was discovered by Wheeler.
