I have never been there either but I know our Taylor Czech is singing on one of the stages at 12:45 P.M. It probably will be real hot but there is 30 percent chance of rain.

Gilbert,

Has been couple years since I was at a Kolache Festival and sad to say ability to get around much preventing me to be there this year.  BUT, everything around the square and about a block each direction will be blocked off to traffic and streets will have all kind of trailers, carts, food, you name it set up.  Live music all day long! Many of the stores will have people showing Czech specialty work, etc. so you won't have problems finding something to eat, drink, see and just ability to walk a little.

Sir John, Earl of Berkshire
What good is information if not shared with others?

Hi Del -

Yes we were there Saturday for the parade, stayed almost the entire
day, Sunday we went to the Polka Mass, then stayed all day again.
Waco has some neat places - we visited the Ranger Museum Friday and
then the Zoo on Monday. The weather was perfect! Saturday was a
bit humid for a while.
We plan to go to the Kolache Fest also.

several flights of stairs, carrying our own luggage. This wasn't so
bad but when we reached our floor .. There was a long, completely
dark corridor which we were going to have to go down. Somehow we
managed to stumble down the corridor and locate our room. When we got
in our room, we found our lights didn't work either and to make
matters worse, the beds were stripped .no bedding at all, and there

John was an owner operator of Milam Food Shop in Wharton for many years and then worked for Natural Gas Pipeline at the sub station in Hungerford until his retirement in 1981. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. Rosary services will be held Wednesday evening at the chapel of the Wharton Funeral Home, with visitation beginning at 5 pm.

Does anyone happen to have any maps for McLennan County for specifying the locations of particular lots and parcels/plots of land to determine an address?  I know I can eventually get that through the County for what I am sure are considerable rates, but I wanted to check here first...

Also ,  as a non-resident of Texas -- the mention of just "walking into the office to ask for what you need is obviously not an option for me.

Many thanks,

Sir John,

Sorry to hear you won't be able to make it.  You will be missed!  Hope you are feeling better soon, though and we'll look for you next year.  Do we need to send you a kolache care package up there in the wilds of DFW?

So who all's coming? Hmmmm????

Be sure to see the quilts, the Czech museum antique farm implements and machines, the Kraitcher House and the Hot Rod Car show.

Don't miss the opening ceremonies if possible cuz once that's done the Original Kolache Festival Band should be winding their way musically thru the crowd, complete with pevo wagon!

The SPJST is sponsoring the Czech Heritage stuff at the Senior Center and it's always a good place to go and get cooled off - and score some munchies. If it's as hot as it has been in the past, that's where I'll be! :-)

For serious food, unless they're selling BBQ in Deanville and it's on your way, don't count on "city" food here.  We've got Sonic, McDonald's, Pizza Hut, Dairy Queen, the Surrey Inn and a couple of other places.  Good food, but nuttin' fancy!  I can recommend the grilled chicken sandwich with crispy fries at Smoking Mesquite, out on Hwy. 36 South.  In town, the Mad Hatters Tea Room is cute and a great place to grab a slice of pie and coffee.  Course, who's gonna be eating anything but kolaches????????

Vitam Vas!

Just a note about the 41st Oklahoma Czech Festival. It
will be on 7 Oct 2006 in Yukon,OK...(1st Saturday in
October). It is well attended by Czechs from several
states. A couple of web links are
www.oklahomaczechfestival.com and www.czechhall.com.
They both have info about the festival, although it is
not updated for this year...The czechhall link has
some other czech links that might be of interest.
Yukon is just on the west side of OKC.
