She is looking for a bracelet, with charms that might represent Moravia, and
specifically Prague and Brno. She also likes the use of garnets.

Thank you!

The book is a collection of stories submitted by veterans or their families.  In 1986  Victor Peters had an  idea for their project.  After several years of collecting material the project was turned over to the Czech Heritage Society of Texas.    The title of the book is Texas Veterans of Czech Ancestry.  Its a nice book, but like any project, there are some errors, i.e. the wrong picture with the wrong article.

I recently purchased another copy from an Estate Sale.

I finally had to bookmark these sites to be able to remember them. it is hell to get old
first place I go to is the CHS website
since I want the money to stay within my own organization
once there click on  CHS Genealgy & Family History Publications on the left hand side and all of their publications come up.
The Texas Veterans of Czech Ancestry is marked down considerably to $16.24 but it has a limited supply.........folks buy these books because they are brand new and if you go to my second source of books
and type in Texas Czech in the Title section and click on begin search
it will bring up an assortment of titles and there are several places selling this book for up to $45.00.

for kicks just type in czech and all of these books pop up and you can spend 30 mins looking at them
hope this helps........lois petter pereira

With all of this renewed interest, does anyone know if there are any plans to update this book, or publish a new one?

My father, my uncles, myself, and my brother all served.  If anyone has a copy, I'd be interested to know if any of us are in the book.

My father was Albin E. Kotrla (Kotrola), then, Hubert E. Kotrla (Kotrola), and finally Johnnie Kotrola, all WWII veterans.

Joe, there is a picture and write-up for Edwin D. Kotrla, son of Joe and Albina Kovarek Kotrla. He is the only one included in the book. He was born June 19, 1926 in Jonah, TX. and home of record at time of publishing was Georgetown. Married Mary Ann Faltesek.

Thanks Nancy, I'm pretty sure those are my family, even with the typo's/misprints, (whichever).

The H.J./J.H. Katrola, is my grandfather, and is actually, Henry Joseph Kotrla. (Originally, it was Jendrich Josef Kotrla).  He was first generation Tex-Czech on the Kotrla side.  His wife, (my grandmother) was Frantiska Anne Vitek, and was first generation Tex-Czech on the Vitek side.  Both spoke czech as their first language, and taught my father, Albin, czech as his first language.  His brother, Hubert also spoke czech as his first language.  Their younger brother, Johnnie spoke english as his first language.  He was born later, with 15 year separating him and my father.  So I guess in that 15 year period was when it was decided to teach english to the kids, and unfortunately, to us grandchildren.  I often wish I had been taught czech first, and english second.

Where can I stop by, and check out the entries?

I don't know anything about the charms, Richard, but there's only one
problem with your question--Prague isn't in Moravia. Its up north in
what used to be called Bohemia. :-) Is she looking for charms that
are just general to what is now the Czech Republic? Have you tried
looking for places on the internet that has either tourist things from
international countries or from Czech. in general? Just a thought..

Archbishop Christopher elected Primate of the Orthodox Church of the Czech Lands and Slovakia

His Eminence, Archbishop Christopher of Prague and the Czech Lands recently was elected the fifth Primate of the Czech-Slovak Church on May 2, 2006.
VILEMOV, CZECH REPUBLIC [OCA Communications] — On May 2, 2006, an All-Church Council of clergy and laity of the autocephalous Orthodox Church of the Czech Lands and Slovakia gathered here to elect a successor to the Church's late Primate, His Beatitude, Metropolitan Nikolaj, who fell asleep in the Lord after a lengthy illness on January 30, 2006.

Elected by the Council delegates as the new Primate of the Church was His Eminence, Archbishop Christopher of Prague and the Czech Lands. With his election, he becomes the fifth Primate of the Czech-Slovak Church since it was granted autocephaly by the Patriarchate of Moscow in 1951. His enthronement will take place on May 28, 2006.

Archbishop Christopher was born Radim Pulets in Prague in 1953. He was ordained to the diaconate and priesthood in 1974. He completed his studies at the Orthodox Theological Faculty in Presov, Czechoslovakia, in 1979, after which he pursued graduate studies at the Moscow Theological Academy, from which he graduated in 1984. In 1987, he completed additional theological studies at the Theological Faculty of the University of Athens, Greece.

In 1985 he was tonsured to monastic orders at the Holy Trinity-Saint Sergius Monastery in Sergiev-Posad [then known as Zagorsk], Russia, taking the name Christopher. Two years later His Beatitude, the late Metropolitan Dorotheus, the Primate of the Orthodox Church of Czechoslovakia, elevated him to the rank of archimandrite. He also served at Prague's Cathedral of Saints Cyril and Methodius.

In 1988, Metropolitan Dorotheus presided at his consecration to the episcopacy and election as Bishop of Olomouc and Brno. After the repose of Metropolitan Dorotheus in 2000, he was named Archbishop of Prague and the Czech Lands and oversaw the work of the Church's Metropolitan Council.

Archbishop Christopher has participated in numerous theological conferences and has represented his Church in many venues. He is well known for his academic pursuits in the fields of theology and philosophy, and is fluent in several languages, including Russian, Greek, German, and English.

Upon learning of Archbishop Christopher's election, His Beatitude, Metropolitan Herman, Primate of the Orthodox Church in America, sent congratulatory greetings on behalf of the clergy and faithful of the Church.

"The Orthodox Church in the former Czechoslovakia has faced numerous difficulties after the fall of communism, especially with the breakup of the country into two separate states -- the Czech Republic and Slovakia," according to the Very Rev. John Matusiak, director of the OCA Office of Communications. "With the majority of Orthodox properties given to non-Orthodox confessions and communities, the Church embarked on an ambitious program to build and rebuild dozens of new churches and chapels, especially in eastern Slovakia. During Metropolitan Nikolaj's five-year tenure, the Church was stabilized, and today continues to build upon its 1000 year tradition freely."

Congratulations on contacting MIrek Koudelka.   My husband and I have had him do an great deal of research on several of our families.  We find him to be completely
truthful,  and his prices are very fair, considering all the information that he delivers.  And you can be sure that the info he sends you is absolutely proven beyond doubt,  from information he locates in the various archives, churches, etc.
We hired another researcher in the Czech Republic before we met Mirek.  That man gave me a wonderful family history on my family, which I paid good money for..  Then we lost contact with him.  We then met Mirek.  Mirek went to work for us and proved that the family the previous researcher gave us information on wasn't even my family.  The ggrandpa that I had received info on had died several years before my ggrandpa came to Texas.  So it's good to check on whomever you decide to use.  We recommend Mirek heartily and have a number of friends who have also had him do their research and they would recommend him too.
And if you decide to take a trip to the homeland, you will never find a better guide than Mirek.  He is a historian, and can tell you about absolutely everything you see there..  And he is wonderful at translating , for those of us who do not understand Czech,  when you visit your new cousins in the Czech Republic. He speaks very good English.
