I've been a member for over 2 years now and never had a problem. I have a yearly subscription and it is automatically charged once a year to my credit card. To stop this automatic billing you have to call and cancel before it is time to renew for the following year. Glad to hear you got this straightened out. If I am not mistaken they have purchased Rootsweb.com or vice versa plus there were many other companies they have acquired and I wonder if this could be a left over contact from another company that got into their database. I am glad that your problem has been resolved though. Lois Petter Pereira

On my Sept AmericanExpress card bill, I saw a $59.95 charge from

signing up for any service or subscription.   How they got my
AmericanExpress credit card number, I don't know!!  I called
AmericanExpress and explained that I did not authorize ancestry.com to bill
my account.  AmericanExpress investigated my claim and I just received a
letter stating that Ancestry.com has issued a credit to my AmericanExpress
account.  I am still concerned about how ancestry.com got my credit card
number!!
Has anyone else had any problems like this with ancestry.com ?

Hello,
It is interesting that you ask about the Petrash family. Part of a Petrash
family came to Ennis, Texas. One of the descendents, Otilie, married my
uncle, Anton Trojacek. She died in childbirth in the 1930s.

There are diary that was donated to the SPJST Museum many years ago that
gives information as to where this family came from and their journey and
story once they arrived in Texas. I have not been able to find it when I
visited the museum. They do not have a complete catalog system but I am in
hopes that the New Library and Museum non-profit group will get this under
control in the future. I know that the diary was donated to them because
the gentleman, Brother Alphonse Honza, handcarried it to them. He is now in
the nursing home here.

Some information on the Petrash family may be obtained from Hattie Moucka
because she received some photos and items from her Aunt Alma Petrash that
died recently.m She is a very sharp 84 years of age.

No doubt some of you have read the letter of mine Darlene was kind
enough to post. I thank her for that and those that have given me
information as a result of it. I am still looking for any additional
information on Frances Marek and her family, including that of her
parents John Marek and Anna Vojtek. Also, I am trying to find more
info on Martin Valla, whom Frances married, and Martin's family and
parents, Martin and Anna Mikel Valla.
Also I am looking for information on the name Koller. Frances's
daugther Christina, my gr grandmother, married a George Antone
Koller. His siblings included Louie, Anton, Henry(who married
Christina's older sister Teresa),Frank, Mary, and Rosie. I dont know
their parents names, but I do know that Christina and George moved to
Weimar shortly before or after 1927, when my grandpa was born. I know
for sure that he was born at least in Colorado co., if not Weimar. I
thought perhaps the Kollers might have been somewhere near the Vallas
in Lavaca Co.
I am also searching for anything on the names Till (Leo Emil Till,
Rudolph Till), Rollins(Silas Sherman Rollins),and Stahl (Mary
Christine Stahl).
I would appreciate anything anyone might know. I am new to this
reseaching of my family and being that I live in Arkansas it's even
tougher
Thanks,
Renee

Hello One And All

Sorry for the delay. Brought back some flu with us. And we have had many personal calls and friends coming by. So computer time has been sacrificed. For those of you that missed my first post let me know and I will send it along. In my first post I talked about relocation and the abandonment of villages. Item three will deal with Cemetery's and my surprise.

3. Cemetery's. Most of my early findings of family and their location, came from what I had found in cemetery's, and there records. Once I had located my town of origin and records that went back on my family to 1600s I could hardly contain myself. Once we found out where to go I could not sleep that night. After arriving my level of excitement had reached an emotional high. There were people there tending the cemetery and I did not want to appear giddy and happy in a palace that held so much pain and sorrow. I started out slowly walking the rows, row after row. No family? Not even that many old stones? A elderly woman was tending to one of the sites. Karl asked her if there was another one. She said no. She began telling another version of the stories that we were told about relocation. She said that most of the families that were here then, never came back after the war. The known German stones were desecrated. So much of the cemetery was plowed under. We looked in the larger cities and found the same thing. There is much reconstruction going on in the cemetery's though.

4.  Towns. A small note that I found interesting. In looking at small towns, Karl said that if the town follows a stream or road it was German. If the town was built around a square it was Czech.

My wife showed me your e-mail responce and I was excited to see that you
were in Wallis at the Smaistra reunion! Sophia (Macha) Smaistrla was my
father's sister. My father's name was Edward Macha and they were the
children of Charlie and Cecilie Macha. They grew up on a farm between
Wallis and Tavener. I know that Raymond and Sophie Smaistrla had several
children, but its been several years since I've seen them. My great
grandparents immigrated from Albrechticky in the Northern part of the Czech
Republic in 1880. They settled first in Fayettte County near Weimer, TX and
later bought a farm south of Wallis near the Bernard river.

What is your connection to the Smaistrla's? Nice to hear from you and please
keep in touch. Rick Macha

Gary,

That was really sad.  I was sooo excited for you at finding the town and records and the cemetery and then it hit bottom when you appeared to not be able to find any plots for relatives.

I am not sure about the streams and roads being necessary for a German town, but I know that a heck of a lot of Czech towns have squares over here.

So inspite of the disappointment above, were you able to find a lot of records, etc.

Mr. G. Martisek: I read the e-mail response you sent my wife, Chris. You
mentioned that you had a great uncle named Petrash that married a Stavinoha
in Krasna, TX. My grandfather, Charlie (Karel) Macha grew up on a farm
south of Wallis, TX near Krasna. The farm was bought by his parents, Jiri
and Johanna Macha around 1898. Charlie married Cecelia Petrash (m. 11 Nov

uncle? Real nice to hear from you and please keep in touch...Rick Macha

I am wandering if anyone knows where Sklenov is located in Moravia.
I've used JewishGen ShtetlSeeker and have received 0 matches. I have
found at least 4 Surnames (Holub, Kristek, Ulcak, Kutac) from "NASE
DEJINY", villages of origin, that indicate Sklenov as a village of
origin. I've recently found that my GGrandmother, Antonia
Novobilsky, who married my GGrandfather Frank William Kutac at St.
Mary's Church in Lavaca Co., Texas had as her villiage of origin
Sklenov. I am guessing that it is near Ticha, Vlcovice, Mnisi,
Pribor, in the Novy Jicin Okres, but that is only a guess. Any help
or information would be appreciated. Thanks and regards,

Here is an extract from the page.

Hukvaldy

- part of the village of Sklenov with the castle, the centre of the former
large dominion, a part of which was once also Ostrava.
The castle was abandoned since a fire in 1762. The oldest historical
records regarding the castle are dated 1228. It is one of
the largest castles in Moravia: The perimeter of the bulwark is 800 metres.
There is a game-park on the slopes around the
castle with wildsheep and fallow deer. The important buildings in the
village are: a former renaissance brewery, a memorial to
Leos Janacek, a memorial tablet on the wall of the old school is a reminder
of the birthplace of the great composer. There will
be a significant cultural event in 1994 in Hukvaldy to remember the 140th
anniversary of Janacek's birthday. The annual music
festival is held in the open air theatre in the game-park:

Dear Texas Czechs,

We just completed hosting our 10 Art students, Art teacher and translator.
They were very satisfied with their trip to Yukon and the Czech festival.
They sold all of the Christmas decorations that they had created, but we
still have Czech/English calendars for 2001 to sell for them.

If you are interested in purchasing some individually or for your
organization contact illonam@...

We will sell them for $3.00 and $1.00 postage per calendar. (perhaps less
postage for a larger order) This is our continued Sister City project for the
Art students and their school as long as the calendars last.
We sold them for $5.00 at our festival. Due to the bad weather at our
festival we did not sell as many as we had hoped to sell.

The calendars were created by the Art students also and feature one of the
Artists and their ceramic creations each month. The calendars are very
colorful and measure 12 by 16 1/2 inches. The days and months are written in
English and Czech.

Thanks for any leeds or suggestions of how to market the remaining calendars.

Greetings from Yukon, Oklahoma
Illona Morris

An interesting article appeared in the Sunday, October 29 Houston
Chronicle in the State Section on the St. Martin's Church, Warrenton,
Fayette County, Texas, the world's smallest active Catholic church which
holds services once a year on All Souls' Day. This article states that
this years' service will be on Thursday, November 2. The article gives
some history on the church and if any of you are further interested get
in touch.

Hi!
The name Macha is not our line. We are Machu. My mother's parents were
Mucha.
I think at times spellings were changed, but we are compiling information
about Machus at this time. As we get farther into it, Macha may also be part
of the clan. Will keep your mail for future reference.

I just found my book entitled "St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery -
Ammansville, Texas" compiled by Norman Krischke.

In this book he has
     1) Alphabetical index with Grave Sites
     2) Numerical Listing with some inscriptions,
     3) Newspaper write-up of various people who died and are buried
there,
     4) June 1900 census of Ammansville

If anyone would like for me to look up information, I would be most
happy to do so as long as you don't require it "yesterday".

By the way, I believe Mr. Krischke has other books on other cemeteries
in and around this area.

Thanks for offering. I believe some of my Rohan's were from Ammansville. And if you don't mind looking I am still looking for my elusive grandparents...Antone Orsag (Orsack or Orsak) and his wife Anna Urban.

O.K.  There really are a few people alive out there.  I thought maybe the ghosts and goblins had gotten everyone since it has been so quite recently out there.  Let's get those emails going again.

Lois,

What are the names and dates of your Rohan relations?  I have some on a couple of my lines.

Gerri

P.S.  I also have the books "Old Bohemina Tombstones, Vol 1, 2, and 3 by Robert Janak.  They cover the cemeteries in Fayette and Lavaca Counties.

I also will do lookups as I can.
