TEEN HOMESCHOOLERS OF RALEIGH:
A secular group, Teen Homeschoolers of Raleigh (THOR) was founded in 2003 to fill the area's need of a welcoming group for existing, as well as newly established, homeschooling families in which the focus is on teens and preteens. Most of our members reside in Wake County in and around the Raleigh area. We are an inclusive and receptive group of all faiths, lifestyles, family compositions, ethnicities, and homeschooling styles.
THOR's primary focus is providing social and educational opportunities for member families. A secondary yet equally important focus is providing this on-line forum for parents to facilitate discussion of homeschooling and all related topics in a spirit of respect, dignity, and tolerance.
THOR gatherings are solely the product of individual member initiative. Group members are encouraged to contribute by hosting and attending at least one activity a year thus sharing individual strengths and creativity with the THOR community. Arranged group activities have included: lunches, dinners, theater trips, history co-ops, seasonal parties, dances, laser tag gatherings, park days, swim days at Falls Lake, Shakespeare classes, cooking classes, museum trips, Overnight stays at Blue Jay Point, etc...
Parents are expected to be present and to supervise their own children at outings unless they have specifically assigned the task to another adult. No child care is provided for younger siblings. Liability waivers may be required to attend certain events.
If you would like to become a member of THOR, you must first attend an activity taking place at a public venue. Please click on "join this group" to receive a membership application and further details. The number of membership families is at the discretion of the group owner and may be capped at any time.
