Purpose: This discussion group is an interactive board to encourage one another in teaching our children using Joyce Herzog’s philosophy of learning. We strive to share practical tips to make our educational experience more enjoyable and successful in a way that honors God.
Biography: Joyce Herzog has more than 25 years experience in education from the classroom to homeschooling parents. Her heart especially reaches out to those who struggle with “traditional” methods of learning. Through her wit and wisdom she has become a teacher and encourager of teachers. As a Christian, she emphasizes the parental responsibility to teach the children and God’s equipping of the teacher. Joyce has written many books that come from her unique approach of building skills in ways that children understand while the family learns together.
Philosophy: All children learn. As parents and teachers, we are concerned that the children lean the right things, master skills, gain wisdom, and build relationships. The current school system provides a one-size-fits-all situation in which some children learn to fail. Learning can be rewarding, enjoyable, and possible if we TEACH THE CHILD. The children are to be our focus, not the curriculum. This is God’s call to parents. Deut 6:4-7a “Hear, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord is one! And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might, and these words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart: and you shall teach them diligently to your sons . . .”
