Troops planning on attending the Tar River District Fall Camporee at the West Edgecombe Ruritan Club November
5-7th 2010, we need to have a number of the Scouts that wish to take which merit badge.
Scouts may take Pathfinding as a twilight or Astronomy as a twilight. Then they may take one of the three other historical merit badges on Saturday, tracking, signaling, or carpentry(these are all day merit badges).
Please let us know how many boys for each merit badge and the three on Saturday please put a first and second choice in the event that the first choice is filled.
These merit badge classes will be limited in size, so register early.

                 Thanks

Scout Leaders if your troop plans on attending the merit badge camporee in January 14-16th 2011, we are using badge tracker to register for merit badges and we need each troop to send in or call with the number of Scouts you think will be attending, we do not need names only the number of Scouts, so you can be emailed a password to get on badge tracker and get your Scouts registered for classes.
We will have the badge tracker set up by October roundtable and start sending out passwords. So call or email me with your unit and approx. number of scouts.

We’re going to have some roundtable training tomorrow night.  We will be having Leader Specific training with wolves, bears, cubmasters, webelos, and boy scouts.  I don’t have anyone for Venturing or Varsity.  We will wait on the Tigers until next roundtable so all units can go ahead and have their roundups and leaders together.  If you have a Tiger leader that really wants it before then or can’t make the next roundtable, please let me know.  I’m sorry about the late notice.

East Carolina Council is offering Outdoor training.  Due to time restrictions this fall, it’s hard for us to put this on as a District.  The Council has more resources, so if you need this training, I urge you to try to make it.

Good morning.

Attached is the nomination form for district awards to be presented at the Tar River District Banquet to be held on December 9, 2010 at St Paul UMC.

We have had a few questions on the District Award of Merit and the George Hemingway awards.  Here is the criteria for each.

District Award of Merit

The highest award that is given to a Scouter at the District level and also the only "non-square knot" in the knot award group.  The District Award of Merit is awarded by a District to volunteer and professional adults for service to youth in the District.

George Hemingway Award

Nominated for service above and beyond for the district.  Typically, this award is for scouters who have already received the District Award of Merit.

Please take this opportunity to nominate someone from your unit and/or someone from the district for these awards.  We have many volunteers that are worthy of recognition.

If you have any questions, please email me at aipock@...

Thanks

Adam Ipock

The above is semaphore for THANK YOU. A big thanks to Ron Kanthak for putting on this past weekend’s event. I actually heard the weather forecaster this morning say she really missed it on Saturday. I could have told her it was going to rain because we all were camping at West Edgecombe Ruritan Club!! Ron has promised no rain or freezing temperatures for Winter Camporee!! Also to Mr. Adam and his team for registration and getting the instructors together for Morse Code. I heard a lot of “deee” “dots” coming from the building.

For those that had scouts attending Astronomy, I will be getting out information soon to the Scoutmasters on items that were completed. I also hope to have a makeup day (excuse me, night) for viewing. Details to come.

I encourage all units to check their unit rosters against the youth that are
participating in their meetings. If you have unregistered youth, please fill out

the youth application and give it to Adam Ipock or Lew Sisson at roundtable
Thursday night. That way we can get the applications to Kinston and have them
entered so that they will show up when units go online to complete their
recharter process.

All units within the Tar River District are required to have their Charter
Renewal paperwork in

to Kinston, no later than December 31st, 2010. This year it is our goal to have
all charters in on time. Last year we had several units that ran into the first
quarter of this year because of simple things missed.

Here are a few items that hindered the charter renewal process for some units
last year:

1. Charter Organization / BSA Agreement form not being completed and sent in.
2. New Youth applications not being turned in with charter renewal paperwork.
3. Make sure all leaders have their Youth Protection.
4. Make sure adult volunteers sign the applications and make sure their SSN is
on application.
5. Make sure that their scouting position is on the application and/or correct
online.
6. Make sure that all the signatures are on the front page pf renewal paperwork.

Good morning

If you plan on attending the 2010 Tar River District Leader Banquet to be held on December 9, 2010 at St Paul UMC, please email me at aipock@... and give me a head count.  We are trying to finalize plans for the meal and we need to know the total number of attendees.  If you spoke with me at the Roundtable this week you do not need to respond.  I have your information.  The cost of the banquet is $10.00 per person and includes a catered meal.

The Banquet is a great event to fellowship with fellow leaders and enjoy a great catered meal.  I hope you can make it this year.

Thank you for all that you do for the Scouting program.

Troops, do you have some youth that are just joining and starting in late December or the first of the year. To late to get them in merit badges but want to attend. Well if there is the interest we will have a mini first year program at the camporee, 2-3 hours in the morning and the same in the afternoon on Saturday and Sunday, going over the totin chip, firemen chip, basic tenderfoot requirements.
Please let know if you are interested in this class.

                Thanks
             Ron Kanthak
