All units check and see if any of your scouts or leaders want a bbq plate $6.00 or a pint of bbq $8.00 Friday night the 14th of January at the camporee. I need to let the ruritan club know approx. how many plates and pints by the 9th of January. They just need a number you can pay for the bbq when you pick it up that Friday night.
               thanks

Unit leaders:
     Things needed on Friday:
1. troop roster of the boys attending the camporee
2. a list of any scouts who are attending and are wanting to
add another class or two, make a note of the merit
badges they would like to get into. This way if a scout
does not attend the camporee we may have classes
    opening up for other scouts.
3. take both of these lists to the registration table as soon
as you arrive at the Ruritan club.
4. check or cash to pay the registration and any fees.
5. when your unit arrives contact Ron Kanthak to get your
assigned camping spot. If you do not see or know me
    call 883-2716
6. DO NOT FORGET ANY SCOUTS ON YOUR BADGE
TRACKER ROSTER ON JANUARY 13TH MUST BE
PAID FOR WHETHER THEY ATTEND THE EVENT
OR NOT. BADGE TRACKER WILL BE LOCKED
AFTER THE 12TH, SO ANY CHANGES NEED TO BE
MAKE BY THE 12TH. This will then give us time to see
what classes may have opened up.
7. Also contact Ron if you want any bbq plates Friday nite

If you have any questions call me or see me at the
roundtable Thursday.

For Tar River Distribution:

The Astronomy Club will have telescopes set up on Friday night at the upcoming Winter Camporee located at the West Edgecombe Ruritian Club. For those scouts that missed this requirement in November we have reserved viewing from 7:00 until 7:45 p.m. For all scouts and Scoutmasters that would like to take a peak into the heavens we will have open viewing from 7:45 until 8:30 p.m. It should be a great night to view the stars.

I want to thank all the staff of this past weekends merit badge camporee, for the effort and time they put into presenting the merit badges. I had nothing but good feedback on the quality of instruction for the weekend. Please past this thank you on to anyone you know of that helped with a class and is not on the yahoo group.
I also want to thank Adam and Cathy Ipock for taking care of the Badgetracker and the registration process at camporee.
Also I want thank the unit leaders for bringing the Scouts to the camporee, I think it was our best yet over 240 youth in attendance is great.

Reminder to all units the District Scout Show/Pinewood derby is March 5th 2011 from 10am to 2pm at Golden East Crossing. We have alot of great things planned but we need all the units in the Tar River district to come out on the 5th with a interactive display or craft, etc. to make it the best scout show we have had. It would be great to have the mall so full we needed to look for space to put units.
Do not forget if your Pack has boys running in the pinewood derby, the pack needs to have a booth at the Scout Show.
Please let us know if your unit is coming and what they plan on doing at the Scout Show, so we do not have several units doing the same thing.
As in past years units can come in after the mall closes on Friday night and set up or after 6am on Saturday morning.

Contact Ron Kanthak 883-2716 or David Harper 883-1774 with any questions or letting us know what your unit is going to do at the Show.

Hello Everyone,

Just wanted to remind everyone that Saturday, February 5, 2011, is the day for putting out doorhangers for Scouting For Food.  The following Saturday is pick up day.  If you have not gotten your doohangers for this year, please give me a call at 903-3715.  Hopefully, we can make this year a record year for food collections to help restock the local food banks.  Thank you for all that you do for our youth.

WOW!!! Just received the poundage for Tar River District’s Scouting for Food Drive – 15,385 Pounds!! That’s about 55% more than we did last year. Thank you to all the units that participated in this year’s event. Your efforts helped stocked the shelves of the Salvation Army, The Bassett Center, United Ministries Kitchen, Loaves and Fishes pantry and pantries in Tarboro and Spring Hope. A BIG thank you to our fearless Chairperson for this event, Cathy Ipock. She was like a policeman directing traffic during the drop off station in Rocky Mount last Saturday.

I know there are some that wanted to attend the Trainer”Ēs Edge for Woodbadge and training in general.

The Trainer”Ēs EDGE

East Carolina Council

Purpose of the Course

The Trainer”Ēs EDGE replaces the Trainer Development Conference (BSA 500) as the required train”¾the”¾trainer course for Wood Badge and NYLT staffs. The purpose of the Trainer”Ēs EDGE course is to provide and help develop the platform skills of a trainer. It is meant to supplement the practice offered through Wood Badge and NYLT staff development, with a focus on the participant, while raising the level of skill a trainer brings to the staff experience. Only practice can polish these skills, but this course is intended to ”Čtrain the trainer”É on behaviors and resources while offering hands”¾on experience in methods and media.

Participant Presentations. In Module 4, participants will make a presentation to the team on a Scouting topic of their choice. The topic they select should be broad enough to allow the presenter to apply the learning from the morning sessions. The participants WILL BRING bring any material or equipment they need for their presentation with them to the Trainer”Ēs EDGE course.  Audio Visual equipment will be available if required.

Subject: Tar River Boy Scout Survey

Hello Tar River Scout Leaders,

A change in the United Way application procedure has prompted the Tar River Boy Scouts to ask our parents to fill out a short survey concerning their Scout's experience in Scouting.  In addition to the online link I will paste below, we are sending a mailout to our parents to encourage them to complete the survey.

Please forward the link below to any of your parents that you have email addresses for and if any of your parents complete the hard copy, let me know and I'll collect them or bring them to next Thursday's roundtable and I can collect them there.

Thank you for your help with this project, the results will make us able to put our best foot forward in applying for United Way funding.

Thanks Again,

Lew

The information needed for the 2011 Council Camporee has been posted on the East
Carolina Council website at the following link:
http://www.eccbsa.org/Council%20Camporee.aspx

Everything a Troop needs to know can be found on the website, including the
leader's guide.

Cub Scout units will have the opportunity to attend as well. Cub Scout units
will set up in a area designated for Cub Scouts, similar to last year's Regional
Jamboree. The above link will give Packs a more detailed listing of events for
them as well.

More information will be covered during Roundtable this week.
