Susana Miller is the most prominent teacher in the world today of the
"milonguero" style of tango. The milonguero, or what Argentines call
"apilado," style is danced in the crowded clubs of central Buenos
Aires. It is a strictly social style that emphasizes musicality and the
connection between partners.

   The apilado style uses compact choreography that creatively employs
the limited space of the social dance floor. It is a rich and complex
form of subtle body signals that profoundly respects tango's rhythms.

   Susana has researched and studied the dancing of the older
milongueros, each of whom has created a unique way to tango. She has
been able to decipher their distinct vocabularies and choreographic
combinations, and found a way to transmit these to students. Her
exploration of apilado dancing is a huge contribution to passing on
this popular form of social tango.

Susana encourages students to employ more rhythm in their dance, to
discover their own dance vocabularies, and to learn how to shape and
shrink these in space. For women, she encourages active following, in
which the woman interprets the messages that the leader's body and the
spirit are sending.

   Susana has probably put more people on the dance floors of Buenos
Aires than any other single teacher. Clarin, the major Buenos Aires
daily paper, called her one of the four most important influences on
contemporary tango, along with Miguel Angel Zotto, Gustavo Naveira and
Gerardo Portalea.

Susana is a native of Buenos Aires and has been dancing and teaching
tango since the late 1980s revival of social tango. She founded and
operates her own tango academy in Buenos Aires, and is the owner of one
of B.A.'s most popular tango clubs, El Beso. She has made annual
teaching tours to the United States and Europe since 1994.

She will help students improve posture, axis, grounding, breathing,
balance, and sensitivity to the lead and follow roles. She aims to
encourage dancers to develop their own unique improvisational styles
through knowledge of the music, space and body. Her classes will
emphasize step quality and rhythm. Rather than predetermined patterns,
she will impart a basic choreographic vocabulary that allows dancers to
creatively shape their own language.

The next Milonga A Media Luz will be held on Sunday,
April 25th from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. at First-E, cover
charge $7.
 
MAML is now sponsored by La Cooperativa Milonguera, a
group of dancers interested in maintaining and
promoting tango at the First-E space.
 
First-E features a warm ambiance, a lovely wood floor,
close-in location, and plenty of free parking. If you
like your tango with some real atmosphere, come to
MAML at First-E.
 
Horacio Arcidiacono of Buenos Aires offers a class for
intermediate and advanced dancers from 6:30-7:30, fee

Starting this Thursday, March 11, there will be a new format for the 7-9pm,=

class and practica at the Virginia Highland YWCA.  Details below, and at

Class and Practice for all Levels, 7-9pm, $10 per evening

The first 20-30 minutes will be a structured class time, including a brief =
warm up of
tango drills...followed by instruction in a core movement, and an advanced =
variation
or two.  The remainder of the session will be devoted to a guided practice =
- an
opportunity to practice any tango vocabulary, on a beautiful wood floor, to=
  a mix of 

tango, vals, and milonga music.  Rick and Lynda are available for assistanc=

Hello All,

Since Steve stopped mailing his milonga announcements, there hasn't been one
single
place to get all the tango happenings around Atlanta.   Thats what this list was
created for.   Join info below.

I'm asking all dance instructors, and/or anyone putting on a milonga to
post their own stuff to this list (ie: lessons, milongas, etc).   By all means
keep posting
to your own individual lists, because this gives people choices (to get all, or
just from
a specific group).   I'm hoping this will turn into a permanent... and self
sustaining
announce list (should be easy if everyone just posts their own stuff.. and no
one
person is called on to fwd emails all the time).

This list will work like a calendar, esp. if posters include the date in the
subject lines.
Yahoo has a calendar whaich may or may not be a good thing to use.   If we do
I'll set
up a automatic email that gives the URL for the Cal about every month.

There are two ways to join a yahoogroups email list (email only, or full access
via
yahoogroups web pages).

TO JOIN EMAIL ONLY :
Send blank email to Tango_GA-unsubscribe@yahoogroups.com and reply (blank
again) to the confirm email (thats it).

TO JOIN FOR WEB ACCESS  (click on the join link):

Web access allows you to read emails right off the yahoogroups webpage... lets
you
pick options for email delivery... a bunch of stuff.   If this is the first
yahoogroups list
you have ever joined, Yahoo will ask for information (but its easy after that).
