THE NEXT CITY-WIDE PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY WITH MUSIC FROM TAIZE IS TBA (THE MOST RECENT SERVICE WAS JANUARY 23, 2009)

We invite you to subscribe to this group if you would like to receive one or two reminder e-mails before each city-wide prayer for Christian unity, held at St. Mary Cathedral, 203 E. 10th St. at Brazos, Austin, Texas (usually on a 3rd Friday, from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m., currently about 4 times per year). At this prayer service, Austin-area Christians come together to join in Christ's prayer that all those who believe in Him may be one, so that the world may believe that the Father sent Him, and that the Father loves them as He loves Christ (John 17:20-23). This simple, ecumenical prayer service consists of contemplative singing with music from Taizé, Scripture readings, silent prayer, and a short closing prayer.

The music we use originated at Taizé, an ecumenical community established in 1940. The community serves as a sign of reconciliation among divided Christians, in the hope that Christians may go forth as a leaven of reconciliation between people, of trust among nations, and of peace on earth.
