I have a bunch of new universal remote controls that do most satellite
receivers. I bought them from a distributor who is exiting the satellite
industry. I also have some Legacy receivers that are new and are made by
Drake.

Several months back I had posted where I was giving notice that
Misc-Sat, DBS-Sat, and TVRO-Sat were being consolidated into Home-Sat.
For a variety of reasons I never completed that task. I plan to do
so in the very near future.

For those of us in Home-Sat this will me little except a few more
members. For the other lists it will mean those groups will no longer
exist once the consolidation has been completed and verified. Those
groups will be deleted.

Any member of Misc-Sat, DBS-Sat, or TVRO-Sat that does not wish to
join Home-Sat please edit your membership and remove yourself from
your group prior to Sat 1/22/2005, 1700 Central Standard time. After
that time your membership will be transferred to Home-Sat. Once each
group has been migrated posts will no longer be allowed in those
groups. Once each group's membership has been verified as being moved
over the group will be deleted.

What this will do in the long run is get everyone together that is
interested in Home satellite technology, small dish and big dish
folks. This will also mean that maintenance of the new group will be
MUCH easier on the owners/moderators.

One last note: Anyone that had their delivery options set to "no
email" has been reset to "special notices". The only difference in
this setting is that you will get email from the moderators that we
note as a "special notice". Please leave your setting this way from
now on as it will help in insuring that the membership roles can stay
clean and all members will get any special notes from the moderators.
If you find that you just can't leave your setting this way then
please excuse yourself from the group.

Thanks for your cooperation and I look forward to answering any
questions you may have regarding this move.

Greetings to all,

A review of the activity of the satellite groups was recently performed and
the decision to merge several of the groups into one group has been made.

Misc-Sat and TVRO-Sat groups will be merged into the Home-Sat effective
Saturday February 21, 2004. Should you not wish to move your membership or
if you wish to remove your membership please do so prior to the above date.
All membership lists will be migrated at that time, hopefully we will be
able to migrate the archives as well, the Misc-Sat group and TVRO-Sat group
will not accept any further membership requests after that time and
eventually those groups will be deleted and removed from Yahoo Groups.

We hope this will create a stronger and better satellite community by
increasing the total number of members in Home-Sat. Thanks for being a part
of the satellite community and support your fellow dish owners and users.

I have 5 dishes and have never replaced a servo motor. Some are at least 10
years old. I believe all are Chaparral brand. I do have two spares of which
I have never needed. That must be the secret, have spares and you won't have
to change them.

I'm on my third servo/polarity switcher motor (the little blue box).
These things seem to be of low quality and don't last very well. I
just wondered if anyone makes a better unit----more mil-spec in
quality. Just getting tired of replacing it every year or so. Thanks
guys. S.R.

Another option for you would be to replace everything with a dual LNB
mount (1 vertical, 1 horizontal) It may be a bit pricey but it is an
option. I have had this setup for several years with no problems.

Another possible parameter is that some IRDs have (or at least used to have) a
setting where power to the polarotor is kept on all the time vs the other more
common setting where it only stays on for a few seconds. Ie for polarotors
that don't retain their position when the power is removed. I'd expect that
if you have this selected, it would reduce the lifetime of the polarotor.

People that have trouble with polorotors every year should check for water
in their wiring to the dish, or some other problem that causes the servo to
constantly chatter.

I'm on my 7th year on the same poloroter here at home, and still going. A
neighbor used to have bad wiring that caused his to go out every 10 months
or so.

Change the settings on your receiver to skip channels and only do all odds
and then all evens. Will halve the wear and tear.

You can reduce the wear & tear on servo motors by setting your RCVR to change
channels by - 1,3,5,7 etc - or 2,4,6,8, instead of 1,2,3,4,5, which saves the
motor from switching polarity as often.

I'm on my third servo/polarity switcher motor (the little blue box).
These things seem to be of low quality and don't last very well. I
just wondered if anyone makes a better unit----more mil-spec in
quality. Just getting tired of replacing it every year or so. Thanks

I checked the post and all I found was someone else asking about T4 about a
month ago.

Did you just join this list? Or have you not been reading any of the
messages in it in the last few months?

T4 has been dead for a long time now!
