Hi All, Looks too windy for the sane pilot on Saturday with forecasts in the 17 to 19 WNW range. Blipper: DrJack (www.drjack.info/BLIP) miniBLIPSPOT Lat,Lon=...
All that dust you will be leaving me in, will make it hard to see, haha! I plan on doing the best that I can tho!!!!! oliver gregory <olliettt1955@...>...
Could I get a little education from one of you weather gurus (Ollie?) on this parameter? I believe I've seen before that "B/S" stands for "Bouyancy/Shear"...?...
Thanks for the weekend forecast, Ollie - especially for the Rudy's forecast. I need to learn how to do these type forecasts myself, so at least one Rudy's...
I like Dr Jack for lots of reasons, but one of the most important features is the boyancy shear ratio. You are exactly right. B/S ratio is a predicton of...
it's trig! the way it was explained that made sense to me was the ratio of up (bouancy) to over (shear). 1 up to 1 over would look like a 45 deg. angle, BS = 1...
The BS ratio is just a very rough approximation of the potential of the thermal to get torn up by shearing winds. I wouldn't worry too much about that...
Thanks, Ollie. I just subscribed to Dr. Jack's forecasts, so I can learn how to do for Rudy's what you do for the Sequatchie. How do I generate the list of...
You can get a Blipspot by simply clicking on the blipmap itself. Use the univiewer and then check off the boxes for the areas you want (SC) and also the boxes...
Eureka! Thanks. Eric ... Eureka! Thanks. Eric ... , Ollie. I just subscribed to Dr. Jack's forecasts, so I can learn > >how to do for Rudy's what you do for...
Looks like Sunday is gonna be pretty good. The winds aren't too strong and a decent direction. The lift is good and the top of the lift is pretty good too....
I think this does make sense of the concept. However, I think the thermals may not drift at a prescribed velocity at the low B/S ratio, rather I think there...
Looks OK. The ADDS has a little more velocity near us, but still doable. The blipper is showing go fly, but pretty strong winds. Ridge should be working with...
Speaking of BS ratio--blippers show dropping from 6 to 4 between 1800 and 2100 UTC ; )--and looking at the interactive FSL skew-T I see the winds pretty...
HI Mark, The Lee Team's keeping gliders in the garage today. Steve says the wind is quite strong and it's really COLD!!! Nice temp differential for thermal...
Definitely agree--no matter what all the forecasts say you never know for sure unless you go! Good luck and have a good one if you do fly. Marc Fink hang...
Here's a look at Monday. MIght be OK. Looks like the lift is gonna be OK with wind making it hard to work. WNW wind. B/S is showing hard to work thermals,...
Not often I've seen a high pressure system this strong--should be pulsating, hard to work thermals (gee, my favorite!). Winds look reasonable to around 3K, so...
"pulsating, hard to work thermals". that sounds like yesterday @ hensons. about 10 deg. west of NW, winds were about 5-10 in lulls between thermals coming thru...
It wasn't a great day, but several soared. I think we had three HGs and 2-3 PGs fly. The west cross was bad at times. I saw it blow WSW in the LZ once for...
Looks like a nice forecast to me. The W* is average thermal updraft velocity. To get your climb rate subtract sink rate your glider gets in a thermalling...
Looks OK. Less wind for sure and still a good direction. Big turn predicted from N to W between 1 PM and 4 PM on the blipper. DrJack (www.drjack.info/BLIP)...
I had 2 minutes of 760 fpm--and lots of 500-600 fpm, much more than what I expected. Also had tons of sink--which interestingly exceeded the peak climbs,...
Who wants to fly Rudy's tomorrow with me? It looks light (5-10 at best) and westerly, but the soaring potential looks interesting (according to Dr. Jack),...
Tomorrow looks potentially awesome!! XC-alert! C'mon up to lookout eric (got a driver??) marc ... best) and westerly, but the soaring potential looks...
My fingers are crossed. If I can find a flying partner for Rudy's, I'll probably fly there. Otherwise, I'll be headed east. No, I pretty much never have a...
