This group is intended to bring together people in Los Angeles or Southern California who are interested in cultivating Transition Towns initiatives here.

Transition Towns initiatives are a proactive, community-based response to the twin crises of climate change (global warming) and peak oil (the end of cheap oil). Founded by Rob Hopkins of the UK, the Transition Towns movement is "going viral" in the UK and Australia. Read more about it at the Transition Network's site http://transitiontowns.org , in Rob Hopkins' book The Transition Handbook (Green Books, 2008), or via Hopkins' blog www.TransitionCulture.org.

Here we can compare notes and support each other as we discuss what we're doing with the Transition Towns movement in our local geographies. Through this virtual community we can communicate directly with each other about what works, doesn't work, challenges, and successes in getting this movement going here in So Calif.

This list was started by the Environmental Change-Makers (www.EnviroChangeMakers.org) in conjunction with a "Life After Oil" series of events in Fall 2008. We hope that these events and this email list will inspire many Transition Towns initiatives in local neighborhoods across the LA basin and throughout So Calif.
