Some have been messaging that we won "the rebate fight".
We did NOT win any rebate fight. What we won, if you care to call it winning, is the right to keep all of the scraps the County was willing to throw our way. Remember, we are owed $7,000,000 to $10,000,000 per year.
Moreover when they threw us these scraps, they also reminded the City that this does not mean that they will give us all we want. Give us, as if it was some gift we were after and not paying what the County owes us for duplicated taxes.
So yes, be happy if you like with the scraps, but do not fool yourself that it was any sort of victory.
Please always keep in mind that we are owed $7,000,000 to $10,000,000 per year.
In a larger sense, it would be much better for all of us if the County refused to rebate any money at all next time. It would then perhaps wake up everyone to the situation we are in, begging for scraps, happy when they are thrown at us. Maybe then we would get serious about this issue and go after what we are entitled to and not fight about scraps.
