I could use a few scouts for a color guard TONIGHT. Details:

* meet at Snuffy's at 7:10 in full class A uniforms
* have our flags from the basement with you (so, stop by the church,
pick up flags, then come to Snuffy's)
* practice 15 minutes and then perform the color guard opening in front
of the District dinner at 7:30 SHARP
* be done by 7:40 and leave

Please send RSVP's to the leaders' mail alias —
t-104-leaders@yahoogroups.com.
I'm not sure if we'll have too many or too few, so if you are willing
then send your RSVP and we'll see what we can do.

Thanks.

Hi Guys,

Sorry this is so last minute. The committee never lined up a group of
scouts for the District Dinner.

Would 3 or 4 Scouts (or more) from 104 be available to lead the opening?
Thank you!

Yours in Scouting,
Grant

Subject: Important: Annual registration, dues & health forms due
billgsherman
Send Email Send Email

Troop 104,

Our annual dues and registration paperwork are due next month.  Details follow.  We will start collecting these at tomorrow night's meeting.

Registration Form

We use this 2-pager to keep our records complete and current.  In it, we collect general participation permission, Scout and parent emergency contact information, and driver information (including your level of auto insurance coverage).  You might wonder why we collect the insurance information. It's simply so that we do not have to gather it during the year whenever we schedule an event.  Our BSA guidelines require us to file it on tour permits with council, and most of you will drive scouts to or from some event(s) during the year.  For insurance purposes, the council requires that we maintain a listing of insurance coverage for all vehicles that the boys might travel in to and from events. Note that it is provided in both DOC and PDF format for your use.

Dues

Our annual dues for the coming year will be $75 per scout.  If there are multiple scouts in one family, we accept $65 per scout.  Please include your dues with your registration paperwork.

Health Forms

All participants are required to fill out a multi-part Annual Health and Medical Form, every year.  (This year's forms bi-lingual). If your Scout attended Sabattis last summer, he submitted a form and we have it already (it is good through June); otherwise you should fill out a new one — Parts A & B — now.

You can delay Part C, along with the physician's examination and signature for now — but it will be needed for Summer Camp.
You do not need to fill out the 4th part (Part D) unless you happen to be planning to attend a Trek,  Philmont, Seabase, or the Bechtel Summit over the next year.

Checklist:

__________                 Registration Form (2 pager including driver information)

__________                 Registration Fee

__________                 Medical Form (parts A&B)

Subject: December activities -- cold weather campout or potential day hike
billgsherman
Send Email Send Email

We have scheduled an outdoor activity for the weekend of December 7th.

This year, we are going to do something a little different.  Although we have generally not camped outside in December, there has been some call for a "more challenging event"… So we are going to give out a try. This is not going to be recommended for everyone — and it is perfectly acceptable to skip this campout if you desire.  It will be cold.  Did I say COLD?  It will be COLD.  To participate in this camp out, you should:
  • Have camped out at least several times
  • Have camped with us at the October camporee and not been too cold — it will be a lot colder on this campout.
  • Have cold weather equipment — a sleeping bag good down to at least 20 degrees, wool socks, balaclava or similar hat, etc
  • Be prepared to spend a lot of time gathering firewood for warmth and to cook over ground fire
  • Be prepared to plan your own menu, shop, and bring your own food, and cook it without stoves — ground fires only
Please turn in the attached permission form and indicate whether you will go at tomorrow evening's meeting.

Now, we don't want Scouts who are not so cold-climate-minded to feel excluded, so we have envisioned an alternative event that we'd like to propose to the Scouts tomorrow night.  If we can get enough interest (including adults) then there will be an alternative activity on Saturday December 7th.  We are thinking that a lunch campout, cooked over ground fires, followed by an orienteering hike in the Watchung Reservation, would be an ideal activity.  Right now, this is only a suggestion, and the Troop's Scouts will decide on this tomorrow night.

Scouts,
I am looking for volunteers to help at this weekends holiday fair. The event runs from 2:30 to 5:00, on the north side of the train station. You will be making small projects with the kids in town and there will be drink and snacks for you. Santa will be present and it will be ok for you to get your picture taken with him as well. Please email me directly with your availability at mlszuch@..., and copy Mr. Sherman as well.

One note on the Citta Winter camping event; it's actually Saturday 12/8 through Sunday 12/9 (not 12/7 as mentioned in the permission form).

The alternate activity will also be Saturday, 12/8.

Thanks,

Just an FYI. The church service starts at 10 am (not 10:30) and lasts until about 11-ish. So we should have some scouts ready about 10:45 or so to sell the wreaths/poinsettias on the 9th.

At this time we have four adult leaders and only 1 or 2 scouts signed up for the
December "cold weather" campout next weekend.

Everything Mr. Sherman mentioned about this campout is still true (scouts should
be relatively experience campers, you should have decent gear, etc), but we
didn't really want to scare everyone away! This is a nice opportunity for a
relatively easy campout (only 3 meals!) with a smaller group.

If you are planning to attend, please send Mr. Thal (cc'd) and I an email
telling us as soon as you can, and bring the registration form to Monday's
meeting. You will need to form cooking teams at the Monday meeting (those
scouts attending can break off during the meeting at some point to do the
planning).

As another bonus, I got a call from the Shooting Sports Director for Camp Citta
last night, and he told me that our troop could partake in rifle shooting if
desired. This might be a great Saturday afternoon activity.

So, if you are a camper and have a warm bag, please consider signing up for this
trip ASAP.

Thanks,
Mr. McIntyre

billgsherman
Send Email Send Email

We have two alternatives for events on Saturday, and here are the detailed logistics along with a list of anticipated  registrants (note: a paper permission slip will be required upon arrival unless you have turned in one already)

1) Watchung Reservation Orienteering Hike and Groundfire Cooking Lunch  --  10:00am — 3:00 pm (sharp)

* although there is no payment and we did not require advanced signup, please bring a signed copy of

the attached Watchung permission slip (insurance liability and all…you know).

* Scouts should team up, provide their own food to cook for lunch, and bring it

* Scouts should bring a bottle or two of drinking water, as there will be no water in the reservation

* Scouting families provide their own transportation to and from the reservation — no going to the Church!

* Location is the Cub Scout Day camp area, just West of Trailside.  See http://goo.gl/maps/GfM6q

Basically, this is an alternative activity to our campout, focused on learning and demonstration of some required

advancement skills.  It also offers a chance for outdoor activity while not encroaching on the first night of Hanukkah.

Planned Adults: Bumiller, Kaiser, Resnicoff (?), Johns, Cheney (?), Lynch (?)

Planned Scouts: Bonnell, Cheney, Eviner, Farrell, Holloway (?), Joshua, Lynch, Resnicoff, Scacifero, Trifiro, Venick(J)

2) Camping at Joseph A Citta Scout Reservation in the Pine Barrens, Saturday 9:00 until Sunday noon

* Meet at All-Saints Church at 9:00am Saturday morning

* We will rapidly pack the necessary gear into a couple of cars and head South asap

* Bring your own food to cook over ground fires — we've gone over this at meetings

* At least one scout hasn't turned in a permission slip — bring it Saturday morning — not optional!

Another copy of the PDF is attached (but note that the incorrect dates are crossed out)

* Bring your warmest gear.  Although the forecast is for milder weather than anticipated, it might rain, and

it may be colder than they anticipate!

    Planned Adults:  Sherman, McIntyre, Fisher

Planned Scouts:  Gentile, Brown, Fisher, Genty

*** If you wish to sign up and you haven't, or vice versa, please send your change to t-104-leaders@yahoogroups.com.

Just sending to one of us won't cut it — we have multiple adults handling multiple activities and we all need to stay

"in the loop" on any planned changes.

Thanks,

Bill Sherman

Thinking of attending the Saturday Watchung Reservation Orienteering Hike and
Ground Fire Cooking event? Worried that you didn't find a buddy on Monday, or
that you'd have been the 3rd one?

No problem! You don't have to be in a group of only 2... There is nothing wrong
with threesomes! Just make sure that all 3 of you are contributing to the
group's meal! This event is for YOU -- so attend if you want to. In fact, we
sometimes have people who cook alone -- pairs is just a suggestion.

There has been further cancellation on attendance for the Citta camping trip...  so we have elected to cancel that part of the weekend.  Instead, those who were going camping will go to the "day trip" instead.

Please meet at the scout day camp area of the Watchung reservation at 10:00AM tomorrow.

Remember that you can place online Trails End popcorn orders anytime, and select your scout to get credit!  Not only does Trails End have nice gifts, but our Troop and Council get more than half the price!

I just sent a Sweet & Savory collection to relatives in Oregon, and it took only a few seconds.

Just a holiday idea!

Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to send out a Holiday Wish for all to have a happy, healthy and safe holiday season.  It's always a good thing to remember how special you all are and to thank you for all the support and caring that you share with my family and I all through the year.  This is a good time to be reminded of the kindness that the little things in life can create and how there are still some angels out there in this big crazy world.

Love, Peace and Blessings,

Gail Rhein, Jackie Stoll & Steven Rhein

Scout Families,

Klondike registration is in full swing!

What this means is that on Monday, 1/7/13, we are going to ask the scouts to COMMIT whether they are going to be on a sled for the Klondike or not.  We need to get a very accurate number, so please check your calendars and make sure that the scouts are prepared to give us a pretty firm answer Monday.

If your scout misses Monday's meeting, we need to hear on monday whether they are going or not -- otherwise they might not be allowed to join in late (the sleds have limits, and minimally a late registration will cost more, but they might get locked out).

See you Monday!
Bill Sherman

Dear all,
I apologize for the lateness of this email, but it is very important. Tomorrow
the PLC has decided to hold a mandatory Uniform inspection. When a we go out
for a Troop event, we represent our Troop and our town, and we do not want to be
mistaken for scouts who do not care. This meeting is mandatory for all scouts
(unless a legitimate reason is given). Only those who show up to the meeting in
FULL CLASS A UNIFORMS will be able to participate in the games Monday evening.

We will be looking for:
-Class A shirt (no red shirts)
-Boy Scout pants (or if you do not own them jeans)
-Neckerchief (with slide)
-Belt
-Merit Badge Sash (if the scout has 6 merit badges or more ONLY)

If there are any issues or questions, please contact me personally at my email
address listed bellow.
