·         A large area of showers and thunderstorms about 900 miles east of the Lesser Antilles is becoming better organized and there is now a 40% chance of this system developing by Sunday morning.

·         This tropical wave is currently moving toward the west-northwest at 15-20mph.

·         Computer models show this system reaching north of the Leeward Islands by Monday then decreasing in forward speed as it moves through the northeast Caribbean Sea early next week.

·         Computer models also suggest that this system may reach tropical storm intensity within the next few days.

·         A broad area of low pressure over the northern Caribbean Sea continues to produce disorganized shower and thunderstorm activity. There are currently no signs of organization and this area has only been given a 10% chance of developing within the next two days.

·         Some computer models show a low pressure system developing within this broad area and moving toward the northeast over eastern Cuba late this weekend.

·         It is too early to tell if either system will develop. Also, it is too early to tell the track and intensity of either system if one does develop, since inconsistencies between computer models are common with weak/developing systems.

·         More information can be found at www.nhc.noaa.gov.

aware of and to intelegently act on potential violations if the choice of the board is to do so. "the list" was put on the street by some board member or board members to inflame the neighbor hood before the work shop. We have a job to do and we were to use this to act on the possible

Is this a water board meeting of County Commissioner meeting?  I sure miss the minutes from the water board meeting. if there anywhere they are posted on a county web site. I know they have to be make public.  I looks like to me since the water board gets an awful lot of money from the people who doesn't live in Suwannee full time, they would be compelled to post them on this forum. We see the notices of the meeting posted here but no minutes,  Some of our good patriots were kind enouth in the past to post them but I know it is a burden. Since they are already taken by state law you would think it would be an easy task to post them here.  Suwannee has a unique demographic as most customers do not live they full time but pay full time rates...it would be the right thing to do to post them here.

This is a work shop that the water board is having, as you know there are several places in Suwannee that are in violations of the rules that have to be enforced per the Dept of Agriculture loan agreement for the water plant.. Below is a e-mail that Derry sent this morning.

Derry,
Just my two cents worth.
Most people that have two travel trailers, a travel trailer and park model or any other variations only use these on week-ends.  Some of the ones listed are maybe used once a month for a couple of days.  I know of some that are listed have not been used but maybe twice all year.
I have heard that someone said if the extra trailer is used once during the month then they owe $86.05.  This is absolutely ridiculous.  I don't have a dog in this fight because I don't have anything extra on my property. But it seems so unfair that two travel trailers on a small lot would be charged twice.  They aren't even using the minimum water.  These people may choose to go elsewhere for their week-ends.  Then the 1st $86.05 will be gone.

If the two or three  units on a lot are lived in full time or are being rented I believe that they should pay extra.  Otherwise, leave it alone.

The bottom line is what do the rules say that we had to agree to and enforce to get the loan from the Dept of Agriculture, I thinks it states living unit period will have a water meter and grinder pump per living unit. And this is something the water board cannot change. As we know there are many houses here that aren't being lived in but have to pay as well.

Sadly the DOA rules are the driving force and have to be followed.

No one from the water board has answered this, so thought I would.  No this is  a Suwannee Water and Sewer board meeting.

Just to clarify one thing.  The Suwannee water board gets NO money from anyone.  The Suwannee Water and Sewer District does.

I used to give a brief synopsis of what went on at the board meetings when I was on the board, but the minutes are not approved until the next meeting.  So, it would be pre-mature to post the draft of the minutes before the board has the chance to correct or approve them. Everyone has the right to request a copy of the minutes from the Water dept office.  I hope this has answered some of your questions.

It might be more helpful if you call the water department office at 352 542-7570 if you have any more questions. I am sure that the manager or secretary will be happy to help you.

Sincerely,

Chris Parr

Perhaps you could contact Dana at the SW & Sewer Plant to  send or e-mail you  a copy each month's minutes.  It would be nice for them  to post them monthly on Suwannee site for those that are not in town or able to watch Channel 71. On Channel 71 furnished by American Cable TV runs the SW & SD board meetings, etc video continously for that month. Of course, that does not help you being out of town. The meetings are very important to attend, when possible.

By the way, your 2 cents is worth every penny. Everyone opinions are.

Derry,
Just my two cents worth.

Derry,
I agree, that unless they are changed, the by-rules determine the judgment.
You also state that Suwannee Water & Sewer has a balanced budget for this year.  I have never seen an annual budget report for Suwannee Water and Sewer.  The public utility mail them to the users each year. I assume the Suwannee Water and Sewer
annual budget report is public record as well. Is there any intent to make the budget report public?  If not, where would one find the annual budget reports.

These rules are dictated by the Department of Agriculture, these rules were required to qualify for the loans and grants that SW&S applied for from the Dept of Ag starting with the new water plant so the board cannot change the rules either. If the rules aren't enforced SW&S is in violation of the loan convenience.

We would like to invite you to participate in a paddling day trip with a group of local paddlers. This is a group of individuals who simply wish to experience some of the great paddling trips in our area with others who also love paddling.

The trip is from Steinhatchee Falls to Steinhatchee on Saturday, October 16th, to meet at the Falls at 9:30 am. This is a downriver trip and we will be going out with the tide in the lower reaches of the river, although there may be wind. The paddle takes about 3 - 3.5 hours on a scenic river with little development. There will be no guide or instruction on this trip; it is best for paddlers with some experience. Everyone will paddle at their own risk and under their own steam. Be sure to bring your PFD and any other safety item you might need.

If you don't know how to reach the Falls, or need a shuttle, please be at River Haven Marina, 1110 River Side Drive, Steinhatchee at 8:45 am. River Haven Marina (352-498-0709) has kayak rentals, but please book any rentals early  as this is a Saturday.

If you have any questions or wish to be removed from our list for future Hidden Coast day paddles, please reply to this email. (You may be on this list because you participated in the recent Hidden Coast Paddling Festival.)

We look forward to seeing you there! Feel free to bring a paddling friend. Happy Paddling!

January of this year, 2010, the weather stayed so cold in St. Louis, Missouri and
Alton, Illinois that the bald eagles were cruising over houses in hopes of a quick meal.
They could not access fish that were at the bottom of the river and had gathered together.
Some kind souls decided to feed the eagles so they would survive the cold spell.
They gathered fish and started feeding the group of eagles huddled on the shore.

The photos below show what happened. A former teaching colleague took
these photos in front of his home.
Incredible!

Feeding the Eagles!

A beautiful morning feeding the eagles, Jan. 2010

Once the fish were thrown, the eagles did not seem to fear the good Samaritans and

word spread fast!

Eagles vying for the fish.  January, 2010.

No zoom lens used here!  The photographer was this close!

Here are the men who were feeding them. So close!!

As you know, it was not too long ago that the American Bald Eagle was
an endangered species.

Amazing pictures please pass along

Dear Friends and Neighbors;

I seldom comment on community issues, because I want to be a minister to all of you that will have me do so, rather than to be on someone's side and thought of as a partisan, as my friendship with all of you means far more to me than the $80. each month this issue touches. Still, I speak out because there are things going on here that I have not heard anyone mention, and I think these things should at least get a mention in this discourse.

Before I say anything, understand that I believe that right now our board has some great leaders that can sort this out in a way in which all of our community can benefit. In addition, I think that over the years we have had some other great leaders too. As far as I know, I am friends with all of you, and I intend to remain a friend to everyone in Suwannee, when these points have been made. I only want what is best for all of our people!

Think of these things:

1. Utilities (Particularly community owned ones.) should exist and operate for the people they serve; certainly, they do not exist to be served by the people. Therefore, they should be customer driven, and built with policies established to serve all the people. I believe that is what is in the heart of every one that works for our water / sewer department! There are some great people working there! Truly, our utility is by the people and for the people. Lets have our board members do everything they can to serve our people and their needs!

2. Customers do not have grinder pumps and water meters except for one reason. They need the water and waste disposal. Customers should pay for water and sewer based on need and use of all water one grinder and one meter can supply, rather than the number of homes, buildings or properties they own. When the bill says that an actual quantity of water (amount) was used, it should be that for which the payment be made, and that should be all that drives the amount of the bill!

Unless, one actually uses water sufficient to exceed the capacity of one grinder and one meter, no additional equipment should be required regardless of the number of toilets, sinks etc., on the property! If there is a need and use by the customer greater than the capacity of the equipment provided, then more equipment should be required. If more equipment is required; then more equipment should be put in service commensurate with the demand, and that demand (actual use) should be paid for by the customer, but only AFTER they have exceeded the capacity of the equipment they initially need or anticipate. Over and again, board members past and present have personally told me that the grinders can even serve more than one customer. Let the equipment be utilized to its greatest potential with customers paying for the water they use and have used. Give our customers the absolutely best bang for the buck sound budget practices allow!

3. Both in America and in Suwannee, we are so blessed; but right now, we live in an economy in which many are suffering. Few of our young families can afford to live in Suwannee, because of high property values, taxes and expensive costs here. Further, there are few jobs and fewer jobs still that pay well. Business is languishing! Many of our remaining businesses are near closure! In addition, there are seniors here that are struggling just to keep up with appearances. Some are having trouble meeting the expenses of food, taxes, fuel and health care. I have prayed, cried and counseled many who's identities that I will always keep confidential, but their names if you knew them would surprise you. Many of our neighbors are days and a paycheck away from foreclosure, embarrassment and real problems. Right now, all of us need any help we can give to one another to mitigate the suffering. These are people that have worked hard all through life, and today still seek out work to keep the bills paid! They seek no hand out, but do seek fair, reasonable, common sense decisions to be made by our leaders, so the fixed income family and the temporarily no income family can survive! Think of how many people you know of that work multiple jobs here and there to make ends meet. Believe me, Suwannee has a great number of people that run out of money long before they run out of month! We must think of all of the people, businesses and families the water department serves.

4. Here is an idea: We have been so blessed to have so many wonderful people that are seeking our vote to serve on our water board; I am praying for every one. I believe we through the newly elected leaders will have the opportunity to move this part of Suwannee living far along ahead for all that live, do business and enjoy our part of the hidden coast! Lets ask each of them to tell us how they will deal with this issue. Lets publish their answers in this venue, or hold a political forum just for our water board candidates, so we can really find out who will commit to what. We need commitment from our leaders. All of you in Suwannee tell me you hate to see our politicians vanish their promises as fast as they are sworn in. We are small enough in Suwannee to establish and require a standard of leadership for our leaders that will demand their best, and their follow through! It is time to end the confusion, ugly words and problems we have had here. Lets use a really old idea, "Love Your Neighbor As Yourself"! I am asking for everyone to take the month of October 2010, and use it to end (forgive) all the anger and hurts of the past, and that all of us neighbors will give everyone a fresh start!

5. Finally, our board is small, and many of the decisions are faced by the water board are very large. Perhaps, some of our people could volunteer to form a volunteer leadership group to identify, examine and propose solutions for the community water board members. Perhaps, our water department manager, attorney and members have people in mind that they would like to ask to serve on such a counsel. The problems they are dealing with are complex, but Suwannee has some amazing talent and leaders here. I have met some really brilliant people here! Lets ask them to help. Let us nominate leaders, and ask them to volunteer, as well as let some that have particular experience, education or training step up to give us good advice. Our board is making decisions that will affect our future in a profound way, and they are handling budgets, technical issues and complex matters for which  creative, well thought out, planned ideas are needed. Lets mobilize the minds of our greatest assets here to deal with these things!

Bobbi an I are entering our fifth year serving Suwannee Fellowship Church, and we so love Suwannee, and every person we have met here. Prayerfully consider my thoughts. Maybe some are good, ok, or just usable. Perhaps, one will give you a better idea for all of us. Just know, our nation and our town will go as our people go. More than anything, I ask you to go with the Lord Jesus Christ! I am praying for us; please pray for Bobbi and I!

Today I bless you with the blessing of the Lord in the name of the LORD Jesus Christ:

On this wise ye shall bless the children of Israel, saying unto them, The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace. And the LORD shall put His name upon you, your children, your family and all you possess and influence, and bless! May the Lord completely fulfill the His promises and this blessing for you, forever! In Jesus Name! (From Numbers 6:22-27 KJV).

Remember this scripture, "Consider now; for the LORD has chosen you to build a house for the sanctuary: BE STRONG, AND DO IT." 1 Chronicles 28:10 (KJV Bold Uppercase Emphasis Added).

Apparently this is a standard procedure all paramedics follow at the scene of an accident when  they come across your cell phone.
ICE  - 'In Case of Emergency'
We all carry our mobile phones with names &  numbers stored in its memory but nobody, other than ourselves, knows which of  these numbers belong to our closest family or  friends.

If we were to  be involved in an accident or were taken ill, the people attending us would  have our mobile phone but wouldn't know who to call. Yes, there are hundreds  of numbers stored but which one is the contact person in case of an emergency?  Hence this 'ICE' (In Case of Emergency) Campaign the concept of 'ICE' is  catching on quickly. It is a method of contact during emergency situations. As  cell(mobile) phones are carried by the majority of the population, all you  need to do is store the number of a contact person or persons who should be  contacted during emergency under the name 'ICE' ( In Case Of  Emergency).
The idea was  thought up by a paramedic who found that when he went to the scenes of  accidents, there were always mobile phones with patients, but they didn't know  which number to call. He therefore thought that it would be a good idea if  there was a nationally recognized name for this purpose. In an emergency  situation, Emergency Service personnel and hospital Staff would be able to  quickly contact the right person by simply dialling the number you have stored  as 'ICE.'
For more than  one contact name simply enter ICE1, ICE2 and ICE3 etc. A great idea that will  make a difference!
Let's spread the concept of ICE by  storing an  ICE number in our Mobile  phones today!
Please  forward this. It won't take too many 'forwards' before everybody will know  about this. It  really could save your life, or put a loved one's mind at  rest. ICE  will speak for you when you are not able  to.

  • Based on satellite observations, some thunderstorm activity around Otto diminished overnight. Maximum winds near 60mph and the strongest thunderstorm activity remains removed from the center. Because of this and the continued interaction with a cold-core upper level low pressure system, the storm is still designated as Sub-Tropical Storm Otto.
  • However, Otto may be acquire tropical characteristics today by moving away from the upper level low and developing more storm activity on all sides of the center. If this occurs, Otto may be deemed a true tropical storm later this morning or this afternoon.
  • Atmospheric conditions are favorable for intensification through the next 2 days and the official NHC forecast has Sub-Tropical Storm Otto gradually intensifying in both wind speed and structure.
  • There is a 50% chance that Otto may briefly become a hurricane on Friday before weakening as it is absorbed by a cold front.
  • Sub-Tropical Storm Otto is located 235 miles northeast of Grand Turk Island in the southeastern Bahamas, or about 770 miles east-southeast of Miami, Florida.
  • Otto is moving slowly, drifting north around 2 mph. However, Otto should begin to move northeast and pick up forward speed this afternoon as it is steered by a cold front.
  • Based on the latest forecast, Otto will not have any impact on the continental U.S.
  • Additional information can be found at www.nhc.noaa.gov
