Greetings unto all of our extended family,
We know there has been a little confusion on the
Christmas Shoot on December 20th. Though there will be a seperate
tournament on this day which does requires you to be
authorized, there will also be the seperate Christmas shoot that does
not require your authorization cards or if you just want to practice (like
most of us do), please feel free to join us on this last Sunday before the
Christmas Holidays.
If you have any further questions please feel free to talk
to the current Captain of Archers for Sundragon, Baron Alfred Jensen of Moe
or Baron Robert. Both will be at archery practice this comming Sunday
I know you said to contact you privately but I know that other
archers wish to know the same thing I need to know. I understand below
that your authorization card is required for the tournament but you don’t
state if it is required for the Christmas shoot or not.
I am really sorry to see our archery full contact gift exchange
disappear. I know every Christmas Shoot that I have been able to attend
has been enjoyed by all. Most people over the years have stated that the
gift exchange is their favorite part of the day. I’m one of those
traditional people when it involves something that has been around a few years
and it really saddens me to see that the tradition is being done away with.
Okay, I’ve stated my thoughts and now I will disappear
from the list again. I do need to know regarding the authorization for
the Christmas shoot so please let us all know as several people have asked me about
it.
Thank you.
In Service,
Baroness Brenna MacGhie of Kintyre

Greetings,
There will be a prize tourny in addition to the Christmas shoot this year.
Thats the twist. You wanted to know, so now its no surprise. If you want to
shoot for prizes bring your authorization cards.
As for the Christmas shoot itself, it will not be a full contact gift
exchange. Come to Solstice on December 5th there will be one there.
The gifts you bring will be numbered. Shoot a number, thats the gift you
recieve. Pretty simple. If you wish to have someone shoot for you, they may
champion you.
Our Excellencies Robert and Theresa are expected, and this is a garbed event as
well as a pot luck.
If you have any futher questions direct them to me privatley or see me on
Sunday at practice.

Huzzah! I despise the full contact gift exchange, and saw only a few people last
year who actually enjoyed themselves. I look forward to having a chance to shoot
a tournament this year.
Also, I think this will encourage more archers to attend Solstice. This gives
those who enjoy the full contact version the chance to participate with others
in the Barony.
As for the authorization cards, I will have mine on hand. If you need assistance
authorizing anyone by Dec 13, please let me know how I can help. I am anxious to
see our archers comply with the Society-wide effort to get all participants in
combat forms authorized.

This would be my question as well. Also, is the tourney portion in addition to the shooting of the numbered balls for the gift exchange? Is there still going to be the ever popular "full contact gift exchange" or has that changed as well?

I have a question. In the past when the Christmas Shoot was announced in Court it has always been "All are invited". Is this no longer the case?

How is the shoot going to have a twist? I thought it was
already “twisted”. J
The Christmas Shoot is considered a tournament???? That is
definitely a change from previous years. I wish I had known it was going
to start being considered a tournament and I would have written the rules
different when I wrote them. So, my question is, if it is a “tournament”,
does that mean it has a winner like other tournaments? I think that’s
why I never thought of it as a tournament because there is no real “winner”,
just a fun time by all.
Thank you.

I know that most are headed for War this weekend.
I thought I would ask if any are not able to make it, and if there would be enough to hold a practice this Sunday morn?

If it is the same one from a few years ago, they are ok. I bought my period long

Hi Starr,
I'm a big fan of two major bows from the 60s and 70s Bear and Howatt.
they were well made, dependable and look cool. However other manufactures from
the same time period also made some very good bows. As far as used bows go, look
for bows that have a solid riser, and straight limbs with no twisting,
delamination, checking or cracking. Ideal AMO (string length) between 64 and 72
inches. Models from Bear- Tamerlane, Tarter, Victor, Polar. Models from Howatt-
Monteray, Coronado, and others I can't think of right now. Sources for these
bows is mostly E-bay so buyer beware, ask many questions before you bid. The
good news is prices are way down compared to even 2 years ago. There also are
some good inexpensive take down bows available at local sporting good stores. So
if you don't mind the look, check em out. Sorry but I don't know anything about
"woodbows". I assume you have an idea as to poundage. usually for ladys 25lbs is
very adequate for SCA shooting. If in doubt errror on the side of being lighter
rather than heavier.
If you make it to the turkey shoot I can show you some of the models I talk
about as well as go into more detail if needed.
Hope this helps even a little,
Johan
