Where do we go from here? The 2000/1/2 Solstice Celebrations have demonstrated our ability to work in partnership, and to make and keep agreements. There is a the desire and the will for for an extended Summer Solstice Celebration. What is the next step?
The fact that we did not pull off a legal gathering this year for after Stonehenge, is our responsibility for not creating a strong enuf orginisational structure.
Our work here is to transalate/document our "knowing that we can do it" into a form that can satisfy the health and saftey obligations to which the authorities are legally bound to adhere.
We need a stong core of reliable people that can take responsibility and be accountable for what takes place. - the truth is that when thousands of people come together, people can get hurt/killed and although 99 times out of a 100 everything works out fine, sometimes it doesn't.
All of this aspect is not a disscusable issue - there are legal constraints that have to be satisfied before anyone in the police/local authority community will move forward on this issue – They have no choice!
When the police closed down the “living arts” festival in Devon last year, the orginiser, Thornton, said: "I love the criminal justice bill, 'cos it doesn't tell you what you can't do, it tells you what you can do" - Like looking at the space around the objects rather than the objects, there is always more space.
The intention behind this group is to initiate and catalise a working egalitarian group/collective to do the behind the scenes work to manage the issues around creating a space for our celebration to happen, so that this year we can have a great after party/celebration in co operation with the authorities.
The Stonehenge festival that has been such an inspiration and jewel in our lives is all about community - a legal successful after party/celebration can be the next step to wherever this journey is going.
