Description
All choral singers and others from Stone Church of Willow Glen community who wish to keep current with Choir announcements may join. We are located in San Jose, CA. We now number 46 singers. There are as many as 9 tenors, 12 basses, 15 altos, and 10 sopranos when everyone is able to attend. The group usually sings SATB but for special occasions we'll sing in unison, or the women will sing SSAA and/or the men will sing TTBB. All singers are welcome to join us. The current Choir President is Donald Foster.
We have toured Ireland and Scotland where we performed in 4 venues: St. Patrick's Cathedral in Dublin, St. Margaret's Church in Glasgow, The Abby on the Isle of Iona, and St. Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh. Great singing experiences; great touring experiences! In the fall of 2011 we are entertaining a mission trip to Sacramento where we will present Henry Mollicone’s Beatitude Mass and all proceeds will go to local groups that minister to the homeless.
The Choir sings every Sunday, but takes the summer off. We rehearse on Wednesday evenings at 7:30 p.m. in the Social Hall. We start at 7:30 PM and end at 9:30 PM. Nancy gives us vocal techniques and coaching as a part of each rehearsal. Hand Bell Choir rehearses on Thursday; the Brass Ensemble, and other sub-groups rehearse at 7:00 PM on Wednesday or by arraignment. Stone Church is located at the corner of Lincoln Avenue and Clark Way in San Jose, and parking is on the street.
Nancy Kromm joined us as our Choir Director September of 2006. Donald Foster leads the Brass Ensemble as a volunteer. Jean Raby leads the Hand Bell Choir and supports the Chime Choir. The choir has an excellent liturgical repertoire from Renaissance to modern, with string quartet, brass quintet, cello, harp, and flute options to go with our excellent pipe organ and/or Steinway Grand Piano.
If you sing and feel like joining a fun dynamic group, then come and sit in for a rehearsal or two to meet us.
