Everyone,

The next mission, as stated, will be mainly shoreleave with some
minor objectives. It will also see our characters in their "normal"
universe, more or less: one where the last four years were spent
fighting the Valkurak Alliance. That war is now over, and what
remains is to pick up the pieces, mourn for what we have lost, and be
thankful for all that we have left ...

But there are greater threats than war on the horizon as we are soon
to find out.

The exploration of alternate universes forms the basis of a brand new
arc in our crew's story and for that, a new mailing list too with a
new title ... Star Trek: The Infinite.

You will be added to the new list in due course and posting shall
resume there ASAP. There will be some rearranging of characters and
positions to cover the bases. If you desire a change of position or
character, please inform me immediately and directly at

plus sending a team into the future would risk the Ourobouros and
without it we can't travel through time at all.

decisions informed on the facts at hand. I'm prepared to save the
Ourobouros for study at some future point, but keeping the files ...

the ship back whole.

Seth: It is a thing to have such influence over your future.

Novaq: Tempting to take advantage of what has been handed to us. We
can mould the past, present and future as we envision it, if we so
choose. But then, that is why we are in this predicament in the first
place.

Seth: Perhaps the Ourobouros should be destroyed after all.

Novaq: We put our trust in the people not to abuse what we cannot
bring ourselves to remove. And yet, from good intentions ...

Benero:Agreed at least more time and resources can be utilized back
on the USS Liberty to achieve this.

Burke:whatever you guys do dont forget you need the backing of the
Admiral,he must deem it necessary to devote time and energy into

Henderson:Dont forget Nick in the past the crew of the USS Enterprise
employed the use of a tachyon grid to locate cloaked Romulan ships!

Benero:Yes I do remmember reading about that proceedure,it turned out
to be quite effective in rendering the cloaked ships visible!

Burke:Yes and we now know that the nebula has a high concentration of
tachyon rays,however all this conjecture can be mute without
starfleet approval.

Henderson:Yes your right Commander! that is why we need to save the
data to disks,present it to the Admiral as it may prove to be crucial

Nagashira: All the same, they should be erased, along with the memory
banks of the Ourobouros.

Novaq: That would certainly go a long way to containing its effect on
our timeline. We wipe the core and expunge our databanks of any
information from the Ourobouros, that includes PADDs and any copies
anyone might have made. *Beat* We know this thing is coming sometime
in the next hundred years or so. Sounds like plenty of time to
prepare for anything they can throw at us ...

Storm: I'm not sure we can rely on that sirs! *He coughed* Time is infinite
as are possibilities.  What is to say that by destroying the data we save
the future or prevent it. I believe there are no wrong answers here.

*All were quite in the room*

Storm: *Clearing his throat* A ripple in time can upset the whole balance of
everything else in it's wake.  But who's to say it wasn't or was to happen.
Fact number one, we have a ship from the future with a different ending.
Fact two, this ship did warn us of impending doom.  Fact three, destroying
it will not change anything.  The knowledge is still there and no matter
what we can't change it.  Already it is possible that others have heard of
this outside this ship.  Have you not heard the expression "Loss lips sink
ships"?  There are those that we trust, but do they keep the secrets.

*All eyes were upon him.*

Storm: Now to throw the curve ball... who's to say that this ship only
stopped here in this time.  What if it stopped in another time and they in
turn tried to set matter's back but couldn't.  Could we be the ripple effect
of that?... or was it even this ship that started this effect?... because
like it or not... we have been affected by the ripples.  We can't erase what
has been discovered nor can I decide what would be the right answer.

crewmen. He prayed with some, blessed some, administered the

person he would just talk with him for a little while. As he turned
to leave he heard a call from one of the biobeds.*

Sick Crewman (NPC): Father.

Clarke *turns and sees who is calling, and walks over to the young
man*: Yes?

Crewman: Do you know what is going on? Here in Sickbay we don't get
much news.

Clarke: I'm sorry, but I haven't really heard much about what is
currently going on. You probably know about as much as I do.

Crewman: I did hear something about a virus..*pauses*..and that if we
fix the timeline a lot of us will be dead.

Clarke *nods, frowns*: Yes, that is true, unfortunately.

Crewman: Father, I'm a little afraid of what could be next...I have
been away from the Church...Religion just isn't very popular among
humans these days, you know?

Clarke *nods*: Yes, that is also true, my son.

Crewman: Yeah...I guess that is all, Father.

Clarke *nods and turns to leave*: I will remember you in my prayers.

Burke:this region of space is from the 29th century,the source of the
Tachyon rays is somewhere inside it,the question arrises did the
Ourobouros use it as cover to hide from hostile aliens at this time?

Novaq: I assume, with the exception of the Medical staff who are
continuing to work on a vaccine and a few select others, we have
everyone present?

*There appears to be general consent that this is true.*

Seth: As close as.

Novaq: Then I'll begin. *Turns as Nagashira activates a monitor
behind him* The Ourobouros, our Away Team has determined, is the
genuine article - a timeship of Federation origin. With repair and
preparation, we have the power to change history we hope, for the
better. However, the question now seems to be not whether we can do
this thing - but whether we should. *A pause, he stands and walks,
pacing as if to bring the words out* There are many among us who
either believe that perhaps the timeline we exist in is either the
correct one, or one which is just as valid as any other. I began with
the premise that changing things "back" was the right way to go,
because that would prevent a great many deaths in the future,
sacrificing many, yet lesser, lives now. Cold hard numbers which not
everyone can easily shrug off. Not when it means losing our friends,
relatives and even ourselves. *He turns back to them* I want
alternatives.

Kali: What about just continuing with the current timeline?

Novaq: Yes, Doctor Tor has raised with me the point that, death will
happen in the Universe, whether we like it or not.

Storm: Knowing what we know now could prevent some of that death.

Nagashira: We must be careful. The very presence of the Ourobouros
has altered our timeline already, we must endevour to limit its
effect as best possible.

Novaq: Absolutely. If we are not going to use the ship to reset the
past, then we do not use it at all.

Storm: It should be destroyed or at least stored away.

Seth: Prudent, but the risk of temptation would remain.

Nagashira: Temporal paradoxes are not to be taken lightly. And
without Starfleet in the future, there will be no-one to return us to
status quo.

Novaq: For that reason perhaps, Storm is correct. Maybe not for us,
but generations to come may have need of this ship. What it
represents is too great to look upon as either black or white.

Kali: Okay, so if we keep the ship, what happens to the records?
We've all read up on our own "futures", and we know that sometime in
that future, the Federation will fall.

Johnston: I see nasty piece of work isn't it? ok did the crew
develope a vaccine?

Henderson:Unfortunately no,they were 60% close to discovering a
vaccine before the whole crew met their fatal end.

Johnston:Ok! Lt.Henderson I will meet up with you shortly,retrieve
the disk from you and then download the data to Biochemistry back on
the USS Liberty.
If there is a vaccine we will discover it, it is only a matter of

Nick: "In My opinion this is a genuine Federation Starship, by the
simple design and style takin into its hull and framework, but it is
also a pourly built ship, I can get the engines running to warp 4,
but as to its time travel capability I believe thats anothe rproblem
all together, maybe with the entire crew of the Liberty and another
ship, we can get it done within a few weeks, and get 1 time warp."
*Pause* "If thats what you want?"

Nick exits the ready room entering the turbo lift to Engineering.
Once he enters Enginneering he starts up the Engines they only run
for a minute then there is an overload causeing a small fire in one
of the Plasma Injectors, he immediatly shuts them down and gets to
work on getting the fire out and repairing the injector. Near the
injector he comes across a packet of letters not in a pad, but on
paper.

They Read:

I hate this Ship, it kinda freaks me, ever since we visited that
planet there has been something wrong, the crew comes to me talking
of hearing noises and seeing things. I don't understand it.

This Morning a bunch of systems shut down on us, our son was lost in
the transport buffers first Mal-funtion, he came back to us with his
insides ripped apart, there was nothing I could do. I just wish The
captain would have chosen someone slse to visit the surface.

These people are raving mad, I seen some people tearing Eye Balls out
of their heads, they've all gone insane. we came up with a vaccine
just after the 1 st vile was made our lab got raided I escaped with

I see things. I am sitting in enginneering right now. I have come to
the realization that these letters aren't goin to get to you, I aint
myself right now, these letters are keeping me sane. I hate this
ship, I hate this crew, I wanna end it all.

These letters are for anyone who finds them, leave this ship if you
stay you die, I have sealed the vius on deck 26 and shut down the
environmental systems, the vius should be dormant, till you
reactivate the system. The time stream is active I am goin in. By the
time anyone finds this I would have taken a shuttle to Nevaris 5
where I was born, there I wish to die by my own hand, to save myself.

Good post, but watch all the time-jumping and alternate universes -
they do tend to get confusing.

The planet that the Ourobouros visited was in the 29th Century. Even
if we reactivated the timeship, going back there would be suicide.
The answer, if we indeed to go anywhere, would be in our past.

Focus now on the decision as to going back or not.

Nick exits the turbo lift onto the main Bridge.

He sees Johnson and Psilo stands there Johnson is lookin around in
amazment at the bridge.

Nick : "If you think that this is amazong you should go see the warp
core, you'll stare at that for hours, so long as its running anyways."

He looks around. "Oh Ya, since nobody can answer my page, I went
along at had a probe go to our starburd nacel, there is a power
fluxuation there, its nothing its temporary fix from what ever
happened on this ship before it came into our time."

He goes to the ready room and over hears the conversation about the
universes.

Nick: *coughs*

Novaq: "What is it?"

Nick: "I believe I can get the engines online, up to warp 4 for now,
thats all that fix will allow, I wanna explore that planet that is
described in the logs, if you dont mind, I believe that may hold the
key to all this." Pause "And I heard the end of the conversation,
sorry, but it occurs to me, how do we know this is an alternate
universe, I mean whos to say things changed, its not like anyone
remembers what it was like before."

And there ended familiarity.  The bridge was unlike anything Tor had
seen.
There were holographic displays at the four stations nestled together

gently curving wall.  The most striking feature was what appeared to be a
transporter pad.*

Johnson: Elias, this ship is remarkable.

Novaq: Its also sick. *beat* Apparently its bio-mechanical
construction made
it vulnerable to the same virus that killed the crew.

Johnson: Ah yes, the vir...*beat* Sweet Jesus!

Psilo: *Emerging cautiously from the ready room just off the bridge*
~Apologies.  I did not mean to startle you~

Psilo can communicate with non-telepaths quite well.  Let's just say

Ah, like I was saying, the virus is definitely what killed the crew.
Its a
nasty bug once it infects you, too, but the good news is it can't seem to
survive outside the body.

Novaq: Then how does it spread?

Psilo: ~I believe I can answer that, Admiral.  Ourobouros was attacked
by a
species unknown to us.  They can kill by spitting a concentrated stream of
venom at their victim.  The result is temporary paralysis followed by
dementia
and
then death.~

Johnson: *nodding* That fits my analysis.  But how did you manage to, ah,
avoid them?

Novaq: A number of the crew took refuge in the transporter's pattern
buffer.
We were only able to recover Psilo, but apparently the Captain and
possibly
others were able to regain control of the ship before the temporal
wave hit.

Psilo: ~I'm afraid I do not know.  The invaders were still aboard when I
entered the transporter.~

Novaq: *rubbing his temples* Well, at least that gives us more to go on.
Thank you, doctor.

Johnson: Any time, Elias.  Can I give you something for that headache?

Novaq: No, its nothing.  That will be all.

*Tor had been standing silently at ease, his broad shoulders straight, his
hands clasp behind his back.  Now he hesitated...*

*Johnson paused, turning around before realizing the Admiral was

Tor: I know that this ship's universe was altered, changing their timeline
and resulting in a future where the Federation has been destroyed...

I'm trying to say is, maybe the destruction of the Federation is the
destiny
of that timeline.  We know that there are infinite universes.  In some the
Federation was destroyed by the Borg.  In others, the Federation never
existed.  Maybe this timeline wasn't meant to exist, but it does.  How
can we
know if
restoring this other universe and ending our own will have the desired
result?
What if instead we create some chain of events that leads to the loss
of even
more lives in the 30th or 40th century?

Novaq: You raise some interesting points, Lt...

Ah, like I was saying, the virus is definitely what killed the crew. Its a
nasty bug once it infects you, too, but the good news is it can't seem to
survive outside the body.

Novaq: Then how does it spread?

Psilo: ~I believe I can answer that, Admiral. Ourobouros was attacked by a
species unknown to us. They can kill by spitting a concentrated stream of
venom at their victim. The result is temporary paralysis followed by
dementia and
then death.~

Johnson: *nodding* That fits my analysis. But how did you manage to, ah,
avoid them?

Novaq: A number of the crew took refuge in the transporter's pattern buffer.
We were only able to recover Psilo, but apparently the Captain and possibly
others were able to regain control of the ship before the temporal wave hit.

Psilo: ~I'm afraid I do not know. The invaders were still aboard when I
entered the transporter.~

Novaq: *rubbing his temples* Well, at least that gives us more to go on.
Thank you, doctor.

Johnson: Any time, Elias. Can I give you something for that headache?

Novaq: No, its nothing. That will be all.

*Tor had been standing silently at ease, his broad shoulders straight, his
hands clasp behind his back. Now he hesitated...*

Novaq: You have something to add, Doctor?

*Johnson paused, turning around before realizing the Admiral was addressing
Tor.*

Tor: Admiral, could I have a word in private?

*The two of them were seated on either side of a small, circular table.*

Novaq: What's on your mind?

Tor: Its the mission, sir. *beat* I believe its a mistake.

Novaq: Go on.

Tor: I know that this ship's universe was altered, changing their timeline
and resulting in a future where the Federation has been destroyed... *beat*
What
I'm trying to say is, maybe the destruction of the Federation is the destiny
of that timeline. We know that there are infinite universes. In some the
Federation was destroyed by the Borg. In others, the Federation never
existed. Maybe this timeline wasn't meant to exist, but it does. How can we
know if
restoring this other universe and ending our own will have the desired
result?
What if instead we create some chain of events that leads to the loss of
even
more lives in the 30th or 40th century?

Novaq: You raise some interesting points, Lt...

Nick walks to the panel he used before to get some of the systems
online.

Nick : "Hm.....Interesting, there's a power fluxuasion in the
starburd nacel, wonder what it is?"

He begins restabalizing the sensors. Shortly after he is done he
begins downloading the Skematics for the USS Liberty into the
database, he then compares them with the Skematics for the USS
Ourobouros.

Nick : "What is that?" *Pause* "Computer Identify the fluxuation in
the Starburd Nacel."

Computer : "No fluxuaton is detectable."

Nick : "Hm......." he taps his com...."Admiral Novaq please report to
Engineering.

Shortly after Novaq enters the room along with anyone who may have
been with him.

Nick : "Sir there is somekind of fluxuation in the starburd nacel I
cant get an accurate reading from here the computer cant identify, I
would liek permission to get in close for a scan, the engines aren't
active as of now so there is nothing to worry about. I believe it may
fix the system problem."

many dead bodies made you think about the one life you were living in... and
made you hope that you when you do go... it'll be at a ripe old age.*

The current story thread should be fine with a few amendments:

1. The Ourobouros must have been using the Dark Matter nebula as
cover to hide from the "enemy" they faced in the 29th Century - their
present, our possible future. If they were involved in a firefight,
that would also account for the system failures.

2. As for the virus, it might be something they picked up if they
came into contact with the "enemy" or if they were infected via the
use of bio-weapons.

Don't forget, its no co-incidence that they travelled back through
time to find us.

*Lt.Jason Henderson enters the main Science lab to find Ensign Rhodes
already at work.Apparently Rhodes had already powered up the
scientific equipment,and computers*

Henderson:Well done Ensign can you give me a status report?
Rhodes:Yes at the moment between the fluctuations of power,Ive
mannage to power up all the equipment they appear to be opperating at
maximum power.

*Henderson immediately checks out the Science log's from a nearby
terminal,begins to read out loud for the benefit of Rhodes*

Henderson:It appears the USS Ourobouros went to investigate a region
called the "Dark nebula" its coordinates are here.
It encountered a planetary system where its sun emitted a large
amount of Tachyon rays.

Rhodes:Yes that can clog up the antimatter drive over a long period
of time,but fortunatly not harmful to human life in the short term.

Henderson:Lets see one class M planet was found to contain large
quantities of the elements trititanium,and duranium.

Rhodes:That would be a Geological goldmine no wonder the Science team
was interested,its the stuff starship hulls and bulkheads are made of.

Henderson:Exactly,but the ship picked up more than they bargained
for,within 14 days the crew started to come down with a virral
infection.
This alien virus was new never before encountered,and had infected
the entire crew of the Ourobouros.

Rhodes:What happened then?

Henderson:fragmentary data,but apparently it first attacked the
hypothalamus in the brain,symptoms ranged from
fever,halucinations,rage,paranoia and euphoria.The virus then spread
to the rest of the body affecting heart and respiration,death
followed cardiovascular failure.

Rhodes:What about this other computer virus affecting the ship?

Henderson:Yes your right, the ships Doctors were 60% close to
developing a vaccine to combat the first alien virus,when the ship
struck a temporal distortion.
Somehow this temporal distortion also infected shipboard systems,the
crew died before they could manufacture the vaccine.

Rhodes:Now we are left with a dead infected crew,and a ship that is
also infected with power systems phassing in and out.

Henderson:Ok Ensign lets go quickly and inform the other's

    Angie looked up, slightly startled by the new voice. She smiled to
herself and rubbed the back of her neck...she hadn't been back in the saddle
for long and she already was feeling the strain.

Burke: We need to start accessing logs and data files. From the look of it,
these people seem to have encrypted everything several times over so it may
take a while to hack into the logs themselves. I want to know about the
virus, the failing systems and whatever killed these people...and I want to
hear it from them.

Benero: They're a bit dead.

Burke: Yes but the logs aren't. Plus I want to try and recover any lost
sensor data if possible.

*A resounding beep - engineering alert - echoes through the office and into
the bay*

Burke: *glancing at the console* Replicators and transporters just went
down. Sensors are falling fast.

Benero: Looks like they never solved that systems problem.

Burke: *nods* I'm gonna see if I can find out how many gel packs were
replaced before...*pauses, looks around* Whatever happened happened. Why
don't you try and see if you can get the sensors stable...we may need them.

Benero: Will do. *he turns and heads back into main engineering*

Burke: *taps her comm* Burke to Novaq.

Novaq: +Go ahead Lieutenant+

    Angie looked around once more. All major systems had been brought back
online along with several of the minor systems. It had been like getting
back on a bike, the work of engineer just consumed you once you got back
into it. After a few attempts, she had hacked her way into the chief
engineer's office...apparently the chief had been a bit paranoid and had
about seventeen encryption codes just to get the bloody door open. She
looked around the office, it was completely bare except for what looked like
an unfinished cup of yellow liquid sitting peacefully on the desk. Walking
behind the desk, she sat at the console and spent a couple minutes hacking
into the engineering log...

Voice (NPC-Male): *A deep voice filled the office and filtered faintly into
main engineering* Chief engineer's log, stardate 705 *garbled* dot 6. Our
systems having been coming on and offline at will. Everything aside from the
warp core has turned itself off and back on again at its own will. We've
lost several hours worth of sensor data on the dark matter nebula, which is
of little interest to me but of keen interest to our science department.
Meanwhile, sensors turned themselves off about two hours ago, and despite
our best efforts, we have been unable to reactivate them. I've run out of
patience for this ship and intend to recommend to the captain that she be
returned to space dock for a complete overhaul. I have my teams working
triple duty to try and replace the gel packs in an attempt to isolate the
problem. Unfortunetly we're only a third done and will likely run out of
replacement packs since the replicators refuse to remain active for more
than three minutes at a time. *a subtle slurp is heard, taking a drink*
Twenty seven years in this service and I have never had so much trouble with
a blasted ship. Regardless, the engineering teams are scattered thinly
across the ship. They continue to work despite the biological virus that
seems to be affecting their comrades...but perhaps it's just tired *yawn*
-ness. End log.
