Bo & I will be attending this concert on Saturday evening.  If anyone is interested in joining us, we could also plan on having dinner somewhere beforehand.

FYI ...

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed individuals can change the world.  Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has. - Margaret Mead

Dear Faculty member:

UC Women's Center invites you to participate in our campus-wide Safe Zone Training on October 27, 2009.

This training is open to the entire UC Community and interested alumni. Safe Zone Training provides faculty, staff and student leaders with the essential knowledge, tools, and resources necessary to be supportive to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning (LGBTQ) students, faculty, and staff. This year's Safe Zone program has been updated and revised from years past to reflect the most current issues affecting LGBTQ individuals and their allies, and we encourage those who have trained with us in the past to consider attending this newly revamped program.  All participants will receive a comprehensive resource binder to supplement the information we cover in the training session.

Safe Zone training incorporates the UC|21 goal to place students at the center, and it creates an opportunity to discuss ways to further include and support LGBTQ faculty, staff and students. In addition, Safe Zone Training helps develop the UC community by creating a safe, supportive environment for LGBTQ students, faculty and staff. Past participants have found the program to be beneficial for their needs to interact with all students and fellow UC employees. A hallmark of Safe Zone Training is the highly visible and easily identifiable decal, indicating a safe space for LGBTQ people, where support and understanding is key and where bigotry and discrimination is not tolerated. If you choose to display this decal, you are identifying yourself as an ally to the LGBTQ community and indicating that you are someone who is supportive, tolerant and safe.  Individuals who participate in Safe Zone Training help make this campus feel friendlier and safer and will positively impact retention rates of LGBTQ students and colleagues.

The campus wide Safe Zone Training will take place on Tuesday, October 27th, in the Tangeman University Center (TUC), Room 400A from 2:00 – 4:00pm.  Beverages and snacks will be provided for all attendees.  Seating is limited, so please pre-register and reserve your space by replying to Tamika.Odum@... (556-6261) by Monday October 26, 2009.

Thank you and we look forward to seeing you!

NATIONAL TRANSGENDER DAY OF REMEMBRANCE

PROGRAM AND CANDLELIGHT VIGIL

FRIDAY, NOV. 20, 2009 I 7:30 p.m.

New Spirit Metropolitan Community Church

4033 Hamilton Ave, Cincinnati OH 45223

Please join us in observance of National Transgender Day of Remembrance.  Throughout the world, people gather this day every year to pay respect to those needlessly killed by hate crimes against the transgender community, and to call attention to the threat of violence faced by gender-variant people.

The program includes a service of musical selections and reflections from the community, ending with a candlelight vigil to honor those who have been victims of violence.

Please contact Joe Poynter at joypoy1950@zoomtown or Paula Ison at paulaison@... or call the church at 513-661-6464 if you have any questions.

Sponsored by New Spirit Metropolitan Community Church and HRC.

Hi,  thanks.  I have verizon so not sure what you have.  My number is 513-919-8321.  I share a family plan of 700 minutes.  I am available to talk after 9 if you do not have verizon that way i can watch my minutes.  Weekend is okay too.  thanks for contacting me.  Looking to meet individuals for support.  I am on the womenoutfront email list.  I hear they do not do as much as they used too.  I appreciate any help you can assist with.

Oh!  I'm not sure if St. Johns has a team going for the Stop AIDS walk so I started a small one.  We don't have may members but if you want to join a team we can meet up tomorrow morning to walk so your not walking alone.

Theresa (& all),

As you may already be aware, the only regularly scheduled events that we currently have scheduled are our every-other-month potluck & movie night.  Our next one is scheduled for 10/23 (4 weeks from today).  I just decided on our next movie, and will be sending out an update soon.

Having said that, I think it's a good idea to consider other events.  I've suggested the idea of having a "dinner out" on alternating months, or scheduling the potluck & movie night for every month.  We also used to have a regular brunch/lunch schedued for after service once a month.

Anyway, if you want to schedule a one-time event, or are interested in organizing a regular event, please feel free to do so.

Thanks.Greg

To all!

I've been wondering why the events are so rare.  I've gone to a few at other UU church GLBT events and if I happen to be out of town for the movie night it seems like forever till the next one.  I'm open to eating out, even though my budget it tight.  I've always wanted to get together with people and try ethnic food places.  Are there very many people in the group interested in that?

I also have a facebook page I've started where I post local GLBT events and issues that are not just regular "shows".  It leans towards politics (because I do) but it's not all political.  I found a gay bingo night that goes to charity :D.

I haven't figured out which is better for sending out information so I started both.  It's a work in progress :D.

It makes sense that we can join together and find local events or design them and then send them out to the group.  Let me know your thoughts.

Michelle
