Description

This site is dedicated to the collection and preservation of the history of the The St. George Tower in Brooklyn Heights, New York. If one-in-eight Americans trace their family history through Brooklyn, then many family memories are also traced to the 17 ballrooms, the many themed restaurants, and world famous indoor saltwater pool.

How do you join us? See the gray "NEW USER" sign up link above on the left? You may have to scroll up! There it is! Simply click on that "sign up" link and fill out the easy form. Note: Just after the zip code line, be sure to add your email address. You'll be returned here to this page. Click "Join this group"-top, right.

Once you've joined, to share, send your memories to "StGeorgeTower@yahoogroups.com". And here's the great part: Periodically you will receive an email memory from someone else who traces some part of their past to this magnificent hotel. You may share as often as you like, and periodically a topic will be posted for you to reply to if you wish.

Once you have signed up feel free to browse the photos file. There is already a fine collection of post cards, snapshots, and memorabilia for you to enjoy.

Located next to the Brooklyn Bridge, and directly across the East River from lower Manhattan, Wall Street, and the former World Trade Center, the St. George is in many ways a central part of New York that only New Yorkers truly understand. What secret story have you never told that had the St. George as the back drop? The tower was built in 1929. Do you remember the heady days leading up to the [first] crash? Were you one of the gin-soaked jazz babies who danced to a full orchestra at the "Egyptian" nightclub under the stars on the tower roof? Perhaps it was later. The 40s and the war? Or the 50s, 60s, ...right through to today with the vitality of a dorm full of grad students and family- and pet-friendly luxury co-ops?

Others share your memories. Come share yours.
