Description

This is a spam free group for current and future Sport Pilot Instructors, CFI's and anyone seeking instruction in a LSA Light Sport Aircraft

If there was ever any question regarding the viability of the LSA market, Cirrus and Cessna pretty much erased those concerns with announcements of their own LSAs at AirVenture 2007.

Light-Sport Aircraft ended a successful year in 2007 with sales up 98%, registering 565 new fixed wing airplanes for the calendar year for a total of 1,118 airplanes. Including weight shift, powered parachutes, and gliders (no gyro or lighter-than-air yet), total registrations for the year hit 720, up 120% over the previous year close and totaling 1,395 LSA nationwide.

What is a certificated Sport Pilot Flight Instructor (CFIS)?

A Sport Pilot instructor has privileges similar to other FAA certificated flight instructors; however, he or she may only provide instruction in the category of light- sport aircraft in which he or she is qualified and operates under FAR 61 Subpart K rather than Subpart H. A CFIS may also perform proficiency checks to add a category or class to the certificate of an existing Sport Pilot and Sport Pilot CFIS in a Light Sport Aircraft LSA

The FAA Sport Pilot initiative became effective on September 1, 2004. On Tuesday, January 11, 2005 the first ultralight trainer was certificated as an experimental light-sport aircraft (E-LSA).The Orlando Flight Standards District Office (FSDO) inspected and awarded an E-LSA airworthiness certificate to a Maxair Drifter.

1/24/2008 Yakima, WA: In a special ceremony at CubCrafters’ manufacturing facility in Yakima, WA, Boeing Commercial Aircraft President and CEO Scott Carson took delivery of his brand new SPORT CUB.LSA.
