Hi All,
This is a very important meeting on the morning of October 23 so if any of
you can make it to fill up the meeting room as a show of support, and even
possibly speak to tell the commissioners you support this purchase, please do.
Following Maureen's e-mail is one from Mike Knight with some additional
information.
Thanks,
Sarah Linney
p.s. Oh and wear green shirts if you can. :-)

Hi Partners,
At last night Cocoa Beach City Council voted unanimously to give $100,000
towards purchasing the Reynolds Tract. We must now email the county
commissioners and turn up in force October 23 at 9:00 a.m., if we want to
save the Thousand Islands.
This tract will be developed no matter what anyone says. I'm not a
politician so trust me. This property is extremely important to the whole
ecosystem of the Indian and Banana Rivers, as well to our grandchildren's
children. We will regret it if we don't do everything possibly can for the
preservation of these islands.
To pass this purchase, there must be at least a 4 to 1 vote to purchase the
property above appraised value. Jackie Colon and Helen Voltz voted no on
fiscal responsibility. This is NOT a budget item. This is a self-imposed
tax we voted in to Save Critical Habitat. In fact, during the Preserve
Brevard Campaign to bring EELs to ballot, the Thousand Islands were
presented as an example of what we would save through the Environmentally
Endangered Lands Program.
Two commissioners are not doing what the people want. Let us show them who
is "BOSS". Mark the 23rd on your calendars. Don't let nature down.
Cheerio,
Maureen

Last night the Cocoa Beach City Commission unanimously approved a
$100,000 contribution towards the Reynolds poperty purchase. In
addition, the Reynolds family approved a matching contribution of
$100,000. These contributions will be presented for Board consideration
on October 23, when the Reynolds purchase comes back for
reconsideration. The following information may be helpful to you for
this meeting:
Reynolds Purchase Price: $3.2 million
City contribution: $100,000
Reynolds family contribution: $100,000
FCT grant funds: $474,000
Total county cost for purchase of Reynolds: $2,526,000
Please note that the FCT grant funds are tied to both the previously
approved Crawford purchase and the now pending Reynolds purchase. In
other words, if we do not purchase Reynolds, the EEL Program will not be
eligible to receive an additional $197,000 from FCT for the Crawford
purchase.
Please also note that the upland acre price on Reynolds is less than the
previously approved Crawford purchase:
Crawford: $1.2 million for 14.9 upland acres (61.7 gross acres) was
$80,537 per upland acre.
Reynolds: $3.2 million for 51 upland acres (275 gross acres) is $62,745
per upland acre.
I hope this is helpful.
Mike
