I just received the following kite fiers request, from a non-profit
organization that needs kite flyers to come out and fly for their
festival on Sep 23. They would also like Rainbows 4 Sail to come out and
sell kites. Please spread the word about this to everyone in the DFW
area.

BTW - Darrin Woodson is a former Dallas Cowboy and is suppose to be on
hand during the event too.

Troy,
thanks for taking the time to speak with me today regarding the Sept.
23, 2006 event at Austin Ranch in The Colony Texas.

The Single Parent Foundation is a 501 (C) 3 that's mission is to help
single parent families with temporary emergency assistance. for more
information on the charity visit:

www.singleparentfoundation.org

The event will be held at Austin Ranch ( http://www.austinranch.com )
and is called the Darren Woodson 5k & Kid Fest (
http://www.woodsonrun.com ). This is a first year event and we do have a
few corporate sponsors but as it is first year they came in at a low
level so we are trying to put together a festival that will offer single
parents an opportunity to bring out the kids without it costing them
precious funds they could use to pay their bills.

With generous donations by Pizza Inn we are going to be able to offer
free pizza to children of single parents and the Single Parent
Foundation is organizing all of the demo's, kite demos, bounce houses,
interactive activities, etc. at our expense to insure a day of fun for
the families without worrying about having the money to entertain the
family.

We would like to invite kite flyers to come and demonstrate their kites
at our festival. Any help from you would be appreciated!

I will also follow up with Rainbows for sale regarding this event, to
see if they would be willing to come to the event and sell kites.

Asghar,
I haven' decided if I will be going to Malaysia this month or not. You
are going? Are you going to Iran Festival?

BTW - I was suppose to go to the festival in Beirut, Lebanon, but I
canceled my trip 3 weeks before. It's a good thing I did, because I
would have been there touring when the airport was first bombed, and I
would have been stranded there. Sami and his family left Beirut and are
staying with his parents in Germany until the situation in Beirut gets
safer. Even when he returns, there may not be much left of Beirut to
return to.

You gotta see this! The floor in this elevator (click links below to
see) has been cleverly painted to create an illusion that makes it look
like there is no floor in it.

Going into this elevator would makes one nervous. There is a sign at the
entrance that cautions people that go in, about elevator/lift work in
progress, and when the doors open, they see this (click on lins below).

There's new kite store (16 months old) in Granbury, TX , named "Family
Fun Kites". They They aren't a hobby shop, they are a real kite store,
and they also just recently started doing e-sales too. Granbury is a
small town just S.W. of Fort Worth

The owners Stephanie and Roger are great people and are really trying to
make the shop a great one!

Here's their website:

http://www.familyfunkites.com/

E-mail: stephanieg@...

They really want to get more involved with our kite community and meet
more kiters. Please give them a shout and introduce yourselves to them.

Thanks!

Dear Kite Event Organizers and Flyers,
It's time for me to build the Region 7 & 8 Kite Events
Calendar webpage.

Important! Please read this e-mail fm beginning to end. Thanks!

Many kite flyers across both region 7 & 8 print this Region 7 & 8 Kite
Events calendar off at the beginning of the year. Region 8 Director
Gayle Woodul also relies on this calendar for sending monthly/weekly
events updates to AKA Region 8 members. And many other kite flyers
and/or kite clubs link to this website from their websites, or borrow
the calendar information to place on their websites, therefore it's
important to have this events calendar completed, with factual
information, before January 1st of each new year.

Event organizers. Here's some helpful
information:
If you're thinking about changing your event date, or you're
are going to organize your first kite event, normally, most annual kite
events organizers schedule their events to happen the same month and
same weekend of each year. Therefore, if you are confused or wondering
about when you want to schedule your event, simply look at the current
Region 7 & 8 Kite events calendar webpage (link listed at the bottom of
this e-mail), and choose your event date.

Some events do overlap, especially in the months of April thru June, but
generally those events that overlap are hundreds of miles in distance
from each other, and therefore it usually doesn't create much of a
conflict between festivals, unless the events are AKA sanctioned sport
kite competitions, where sport kite competitors are trying to earn
qualifying points for the AKA Convention and Grand Nationals
competition. If you want to organize a AKA sanctioned sport kite
competition, do not organize an event the same weekend of any other
Region 7 & 8 sport kite competition events.

Send your information like the example shown below the kite events
legend:

Events Legend:
Event type: Fun fly (FF), Competition (CP), Workshop (WS), Demonstration
(DM), Traction Kite Event (TKE).

Example Kite Event Info:
Jan 16-17---10th Wichita Kite Festival (FF...see legend above).
Wichita, KS
(at North High school - N. Main st)
C: Joe and Jolene Kiter
phone: 123-456-7890
e:mail: jjkiter@...
website: http://www.wichitakitefest.com

Planned event activities (basic info only please):
- sport kite competitions, single line, fun flying, kid's kite building,
candy drops, buggy demos, kite building, seminar, bowl races, fun
competition (example: biggest, smallest kite, longest tail, etc...),
demonstrations, food, entertainment, fund raiser, etc....

Please, even if you don't have your kite event info completely ready
yet, reply to this e-mail and let me know when you can e-mail me the
info, and that you received is e-mail. Send all kite event info from any
event that you are certain about, even if it's a 2 hour kite fly for a
group of girl scouts / boy scouts.

Please remind other kite event organizers to send me their info too.
It's to your benefit to have it listed on the events calendar.

Please e-mail me (Troy Gunn) any kite event information that you are
associated with, as soon as possible.

Send your information to:
TKOGunn@...

BTW - I've been doing this calendar since 1997. I started it when I was
AKA Region 8 Director, as a service to the members that I represented,
and I continue to do this calendar each year, for all of you. Enjoy it
and tell others about it!

Best Regards and Happy Holidays to everyone!

PS - I apologize in advance if you receive this e-mail information more
than once. ; )

Some of you may or may not know this, but New Tech Kites (NTK) has a
discussion forum. Whether or not you own any NTK product, it's a great
place to discuss kite related or non-kite related topics. In the forum,
there are many kite related topics and an open lounge section where you
can talk about anything that strikes your fancy (within reason and taste
of course).

If you don't already have the forum bookmarked, or have not yet joined
for free, and/or posted or replied to discussions, here is the website

BTW - I will have my webpage Region 7 & 8 Kite Events Calendar ready to

about when you want to schedule your event, simply look at the current
