This is a community of women who hunger to find our reflection in God and to be included in the language of our faith traditions. We are especially a place where women who relate in any way to Christianity may speak freely of being feminist. We are also interested in learning from, and sharing with, women who follow other spiritual paths. We welcome women of all faith traditions or who claim none.
We are pro-choice, pro-life, lesbian, straight, mothers, those without children. We are daughters, sisters, lovers, friends. Our ages range from 20's into the 70's. We are clergy, laywomen, anti-war, military families, physically challenged. We are women from the US, Australia, Canada, France and Puerto Rico. We are students, grandmothers, crones, single, divorced, married, ordained, therapists, mental health consumers, writers, retirees.
All of these diversities are welcome here, and it is NEVER appropriate to expect a member to defend any of the above (i.e. - who or what she is or believes). In fact we take this so seriously that posts requesting such a defense, or attacking another member, are cause for removal from the list.
Topics may include: defining and developing our feminist spiritualities, female role models, feminine linguistics, shared resources for feminist liturgies, the role of women in their faith communities, surviving and/or making waves in male-dominated environments, help in forming women's spiritual groups, and our individual spiritual paths and questions. We see that women are often oppressed in their faith communities and in the world in general. Here we discuss these issues and our own experiences constructively, aiming for open-mindedness and willingness to seek and learn. This list is for women only.
This list has existed since 1996 and moved to egroups in 1999. It became part of Yahoo Groups after that. Women wishing to join are screened by telling about their spirituality and why they wish to join this community.
