Re:Rudder angle

I just bought this boat third hand (my first Soling) and it had been set up with
the pushrod in the last hole in the rudder horn. I only had my MM to compare it
with and the agility seemed okay for a 10 lb. boat vs. a 2 pounder.
I was happy with it the way it was, not knowing any better, but then I saw one
of the guys banging his boat back and forth like a go-kart during the start
ballet. I thought 'mine won't do that even if I knew what I was doing' so I
asked the question. I moved it in one hole and got about 32° each way. Plenty of
room for more if I want it.
Art.

What recommendations for maximum rudder angle? Too much and you slow the boat down unless you are careful with the radio stick. Too little and you can't turn...

Give yourself plenty of throw (40 degrees is about what I have as a maximum), but only use what you need. I rarely throw the rudder over all the way. -Paul ...

Hi George I would start with about 30 degrees. The less you use the rudder the faster you'll sail. Be sure the rudder is exactly in line with the keel when out...
