BSA Online Learning Center
A BSA National website containing a number of online training courses. These include Youth Protection Training, Cub Scout Leader Fast Start, Boy Scout Leader Fast Start, and the Troop Committee Challenge. You may need your BSA Membership Number to get credit for taking a course. This number can be found on your membership card or might be found on the label to your Scouting Magazine. On the author’s Scouting Magazine it is found as the n’s between the pound signs (#) in the pattern #00000nnnnnnn8#092 (092 being the Atlanta Area Council’s number). Note: Soon you may have to access this training page directly through your MyScouting account (go to www.scouting.org and click on the MyScouting link near the top of the webpage.)

BUGLE CALLS: Army Bands Online
Bugling, once feared to be a "lost art" in Scouting, is on the upswing. The Bugler is a key troop leadership position, serving as the SPL's "Chief Communications Officer". He needs to know a variety of calls to signal various events on a camp-out schedule. Army Bands Online maintains one of the best sites on bugling, letting you review the sheet music as you hear each call played by an expert.

Camp Allatoona Aquatics Base
The Camp Allatoona Aquatics Base is the third leg of our council's camping properties. Here is where a troop can enjoy aquatic activities and, on selected weekends, work on aquatic merit badges, the BSA Lifeguard and the Snorkeling Award. This website is well done with areas including About Us, Programs, Camping, Schedule, Maps, and Registration.

Moon Phase Calendar
Here's a nifty little resource to use when you are planning an overnight outing for your unit. It's a simple little website dedicated to producing graphical calendars of moon phases throughout the month. Just plug in the month and year, and you'll get a calendar showing what to expect from the noon (assuming a clear sky) for each night of the month. Full moons, of course, provide extra light for nighttime games and activiites, while the lack of moonlight will enhance star-gazing.

RESOURCE: Where to Go Camping!
The brothers of Atlanta's Order of the Arrow lodge (Egwa Tawa Dee) have put together a really useful site listing a variety of places troops can go camping throughout the year. The "Where to Go Camping" site can be used to aid your unit in program planning in the metro Atlanta area, in other parts of Georgia, and nation-wide. The links take you to more detailed information about each location.
