They don't make any effort to be fire reporters, nor is the public CAD stuff
a complete log of ANY incident. CAD TIP stands for Computer Aided Dispatch
Traffic Information
Page. The operative portion of this label refers to TRAFFIC INFORMATION. The
CAD TIP on the Internet is intended merely to assist the public in choosing
commute routes. They admittedly filter it heavily before it hits the 'Net.
Many incidents never reach the public site at all, and of those that do, only a
limited bit of info goes online.

I'm the senior network engineer for a large regional hospital in the LA
area and one of our prerequisites for being hired is not being too much of
a snotty know-it-all who jumps into somebody's stuff because of a spelling
error and then misspells the word prerequisite.

Your assertion of being smarter because you have a cheesy HR job is suspect.

You misspelled "prerequisite" .

Reread your last post and think about those "Basic communication skills,
written and verbal" and how you personally judge people.

You must be new to the Internet. Spelling flames are a serious no-no. Now
you "no" why.

You're welcome.

OK, I didn't have any Williams Fire close at hand. Since the CHP site is
occasionally referred to on the list, I was merely attempting to explain to
socalfire list members why info on there is often cryptic, incomplete, and
sometimes may appear to be misleading.

You have a good day too.

Here's the Williams Fire status as of Oct 3...

The Williams Fire is 100% contained, however personnel on the fire are
continuing to monitor the area. Three helicopters are also conducting air
patrol. There is unburned fuel within the fire perimeter which may still burn
causing smoke to be visible to Mt. Baldy Village residents and the general
public.

Speed limit on Mount Baldy Road in the fire area is 25 mph, strictly enforced by
California Highway Patrol.
Evacuation order for Mt. Baldy Highway was lifted as of 7pm, September 30 to
residents only. Please be prepared to show proof of residence at the Law
Enforcement check station.

The Red Cross Evacuation Center at Memorial Park closed October 1st at 3pm. If
assistance is needed, please call (626)799-0841 or (800)540-2000 for after hours
emergencies.

Highway 39 and the East Fork Road closure by California Highway Patrol will be
removed for access to private lands inside the Forest only. Highway 39 remains
closed in areas of the Curve Fire.

County of Los Angeles Road Department has closed Glendora Mountain Road and
Glendora Ridge Road.
San Dimas Road at the southern forest boundary is closed except for residents
only.

The Forest Closure will be enforced.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Erosion Control
The Angeles National Forest and cooperating county, state and federal agencies
are preparing a Burned Area Emergency Rehabilitation Plan (BAER...pronounced
'Bear') to address potential erosion and noxious weed problems resulting from
the fire. The draft plan will be available for public review at a date to be
determined at the San Gabriel River Ranger Station (626)335-1251. Landowners
interested in adapting to further fire related changes to their property will be
able to consult with rehabilitation specialists from several agencies.

Tim,
The Southern California Fire Weather forecast at:
http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/fire/south/fwx/fwxral.txt
mentions mild Santa Ana winds, but has no mention of a
Red Flag Watch.

The Nat'l Sit Report mentions a Red Flag Warning (one
step below a Watch) for Northern CA.

As I recall, however, the USFS/CDF can also declare a
Red Flag partially based on fuel conditions...
obviously very dry now. Note from the LA County FD
website:
http://www.lacofd.org/Forestry_folder/LFM/allareas.pdf
that live fuel moistures are well below critical.
From what I'm hearing the 1000 hour fuels are in about
the 7% range... extremely dry, indicating severe
drought.

So... I still don't know for sure that we're in Red
Flag, but it's not coming from the weather service if
we are. Given the mild Santa Ana's, the local FMO's
may well have ordered it.

I'm hearing traffic of a small veg fire very high up
in the San Bernardino NF. Air attack just ordered one
air tanker to keep in in check until the troops
arrived.

It's described as being in the "Dry Lake" area. I've
also heard talk of Taquitz, which is in the San
Jacinto area. Small spot ~30' x 60', but trying to
get into the aerial fuels. Altitude described as
about 10000 ft. The Keenwild RAWS shows 68F with
almost no wind, but that's at 5000 ft, so it should be
in the mid 50s at 10K, depending on sun.

Air attack is talking to Battalion 32, which is from
the west of the San Jacinto area, but may be covering.

Traffic on 171.475 and probably on 170.000.

JF

There is no Red Flag warning or watch in effect yet. I believe the
news agencies sometimes use the term indiscriminately (sp?). The
National Weather Service is the agency who declares either one of
those in effect. And the official forecast does not mention a Red
Flag condition. There are specific criteria that have to be met, and
the wind speed may not be quite high enough, or humidity not quite
low enough, for Red Flag. I do not doubt that the news used that
term though.

I'm not sure if the Williams fire is still active, but for the last
week, a Firehawk and support crew (fuel truck, sleeper truck(?)) have
been sitting @ El Monte Airport. I don't recognize the paint scheme, the
fuel truck says "prey for the hawk" on the side.

MAJOR EMERGENCY STRUCTURE FIRE:

On Monday, October 07, 2002, at 0453 hours (4:53 a.m.), nineteen companies of
Los Angeles Fire Fighters, six Battalion Officer Command Teams, three LAFD
Rescue Ambulances, and other support units, under the direction of Assistant
Chief Tim Manning, responded to a Major Emergency Structure Fire at 130 South La
Brea Avenue, in the Fairfax area. First units on the scene reported a two-story
commercial building with heavy smoke and fire showing from the second floor and
roof area. Firefighters using handlines quickly mounted an aggressive interior
attack on the fire. Due to the large volume of fire on the second floor and in
the attic area, it was determined that the roof would be compromised and the
possibility of a roof collapse would occur and the order to withdraw from the
interior of the structure was issued. On the exterior of the structure,
Firefighters used Heavy Stream Appliances and handlines to confined the fire to
"Lost Studios", an acting school on the second floor and extinguished the fire
in one-hour and ten minutes. "Urban Habitat" a furniture store on the first
floor sustained smoke and water damage. A major portion of the roof did collapse
and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is listed as under
investigation and fire damage is estimated at $1,000,000. ($400,000 contents and
$600,000 structure)

A Captain 1 is an engine company captain, and a Captain II is a task
force commander (is the truck company captain). I could be wrong
though.

LACoFD firefighters in Quartz Hill (west side of Antelope Valley)
called for sheriff support when they surprised apparent burglars at a
home on Harmony Lane at about 10:45 today. The firefighters were
engaged in a rather determined pursuit, while sheriff deputies were
still en route to assist.

The suspects were last seen ducking into a yard near 55th St W and
Ave L-4.

The reason for such resolve to capture the perps? The residence
belongs to one of the E-84 firefighters. :-)
