Smudged Ink is for aspiring (published authors are welcome too!) fiction writers.

Built on the idea that, at least once in a his or her career (usually - and unfortunately - many times) a writer will become infected with that most dreaded of all ailments; Writer's Block, Smudged Ink is dedicated to the goal of eliminating this disease in our lifetime.

How?

I'm glad you asked.

Each week, a prompt will be sent out (via email) to all members in the group. The prompt is designed to tickle your imagination and get your fingers dancing over the keyboard. Some prompts are simple word lists, some are basic character sketches, and some are plot outlines. Occassionally, a photograph is posted as a prompt. They are all open ended and subject to interpretation... your own unique interpretation.

Once you have written your story, you post it to the group for evaluation and analysis. Nothing is scored and you don't get a 'grade', but, as a struggling artist, you will find the feedback of the other members extremely useful. They can help point out mistakes you have made and - just as importantly - tell you where you have succeeded in your efforts. These commentaries (or critiques) are probably the most useful part of Smudged Ink. You don't have to wait for months to hear back from an editor, you will know in a week (sometimes sooner) how people reacted to your writing.

All genres of fiction are accepted and encouraged (except for 'adult' fiction or erotica). Poetry, biographies, scripts, screenplays, and technical writing are also not permitted. Smudged Ink targets fiction only.
