04.01.2007: This group is dedicated to the largest, cleanest fresh water lake east of the Mississippi. It’s often referred to as "Virginia’s Best Kept Secret". Smith Mountain Lake has over 500 miles of shoreline and is the home to the 57.3 pound striper fish! The lake is well known for its immense natural beauty and surreal sunsets all nestled in the heartland of the Blue Ridge - Appalachian Mountains. The lake attracts everyone from celebrities, tycoons to your everyday outdoorsman, “What About Bob” was even filmed here and two “Twilight Zone” episodes. So, this site is dedicated to those who love the outdoors, to extreme sports to boating, camping, fishing, parasailing, wakeboarding, water skiing, hang gliding to sun worshiping to name just a few! Since I moved here in 1995, I have taken over two-hundred thousand high quality digital pictures, thus this site and VirginiasBestKeptSecret.com were set up to share my love for the area. And as moderator of the group (James) I will do my best to answer all questions ASAP, your input and suggestion are most welcome. Additionally, I will post as many up and coming events as far in advance as I can at both sites.
