Dear Small Scale Folks,
Many moons ago John Watts asked:
> Does anybody know if there is any differences between Revell Germany's
> CH-47D and HC.1 kits, besides the decals?
Hi John,
Yes, there is one sprue that differs between the two kits: it is the
one containing the lower part of the fuselage. It is tagged 'US ARMY'
in the CH-47D kit and 'RAF' in the HC.1 kit. The parts on this sprue
are all different: the lower fuselage (CH-47D part 20; HC.1 part 52)
has a different set of antennae and there is a dish added to the HC.1
version. The other parts on this sprue are a tail fin leading edge
with oil cooler intake (CH-47D part 22) and antennae (pts 34,35,36,
89,90,92) for the CH-47D version. The HC.1 sprue contains different
antennae, IR jammers (pts 61,62), chaff/flare dispensers (pts 63,64)
and a Night Sun IR search light (part 57). For the HC.1 there is a
tail fin leading edge without oil cooler intake on one of the main sprues.
Apart from those differences the parts on the other sprues are the
same but different parts are used/skipped for each version.
Note that the HC.1 paint scheme in the kit depicts a version of 1989,
ie. pre-Gulf War, but the chaff/IR jammers were not fitted before the
build-up towards the Gulf War, so the box art correctly depicts the
HC.1 in jubilee markings flying without the jammers.
If you want to build a CH-47D or a later CH-47 version you need to
hurry and pick up one of the CH-47D kits before it is out of stock
as CH-47D kit 04459 will be discontinued in 2004.
Sorry for the slow reply !
