You are forgetting that this takes place before book six and his ultimately fatal injury. As such, it was still his intention for Harry to give up his life

Yup, I couldn't let Hiss go. As to DD's motives, well he needs to be the greatest wizard, teacher, leader ect. and Harry has shown him up. :)
