Re: [SisterFreddyBrewClub] Re: Brewing bigger batches of beer

Thanks for the help Folks. I will be checking out these sites. As to what type of pot it is, it is a stainless steel tank that held water the tank needs lots of cleaning, I need to weld some plates to the bottom and sides to make it more conductive so that heat will transfer to the contents and build the propane burner to heat it with. I do not see my first batch getting brewed in the immediate future but I want to get started. I figure the first thing is to decide on the feasibility of the such a large batch, i.e. figure out how to convert a recipe to it, then will be cleaning the tank out, that will be quite a project in itself and I am going to get real familar with quite a few of the available cleaning solvents doing that, then will be welding plates onto the bottom and sides to make it heat conductive, then building the burner, then testing the pot by boiling water and maintaining the boil as though it were a wort to see how much propane this will take, then making sure a large enough brew area under the carport is cleaned enough not to worry about contaminating the wort, then turning the 55 gallon food grade containers into fermentors, 20 of them, then cleaning out the area in the climate controled building to put them in, then beginning the brew. And oh yeah, don't forget rigging up a water supply that will fill this and clean it at a fast enough rate that it is not the entire brew weekend getting water into the tank. I am thinking I will not be starting the wort next weekend, what do you think?
Anyway, thanks for the help, I will keep you posted as it proceeds.

http://www.brewcalc s.com/

can help calculate yeast pitch rate you will probaby need to sar
culturing a week or two in advance.

http://www.promash. com/
this is a little more complex than others

http://www.brewsmit h.com/
this one is very simple

what kind of pot is it? how are you going to heat that kind of volume
of water?

As far as cooling and maintaining such a large volumn of wort I intend
to ferment in smaller containers. I also have access to 55 gallong
containers that I think will make excellent fermentors, so once the
initial brewing is done I am going to break the fermentation down to
the smaller containers, then into a climate controlled building to
ferment. I do not know how much yeast I will need, I do not know how
much of anything yet, that is why I am looking for help.
> I just can't pass up this big brew but it is not something that I
have to rush out and do today. The brew pot is not going anywhere so I
have some time to get some home work done. When I make the brew I will
invite you guys up for a glass of beer, I think I will have enough to
go around and it is not far from your home stompoing grounds, maybe
thirty five miles.
