Hello Jenny
How lovely to have another lady on the 'List' - we are a bit of a scarcity, I
can tell you. Mind you, the boys are great fun and the most enormous support
when that has been needed too. A real cyber family if ever there was one.
I was being referred to by 'certain people' as having been allowed to join in
the Sheffield site because I am really a Rotherham girl - using the word 'girl'
in the loosest possible sense! As I have been left there for nigh on 50 years, I
think I have been forgiven by now. What is your connection with Sheffield? Were
you born there - in which case commiserations (my turn to get my own back on the
boys!) or did you live there at some stage? We are nothing if not nosey, us
Yorkshire women!
Humour is a very large part of the fun of our list, and never take offence at
anything that is said, because there is not anyone on the list that I have come
across who has a malicious bone in their bodies. Quite the reverse. Kindest
folks you could ever hope to contact.
I personally never use the Expats side of the site, preferring as I do the
SheffieldBinaries list, because as one of the boys explained, we can send photos
to Binaries and it is also the much more active side - and there are less of us
on it too so we (or at least I) don't think we have many people who just read
the site but never contribute (otherwise known as lurkers).
I have met a lot of the contributors, and what wonderful people they have turned
out to be. I have been lucky enough to visit some of them, and it has been a
real pleasure to welcome some of them here to my home in Gretna (not at the
Green itself, but a mere mile away from it). That reminds me, there will be
probably about 300 weddings today in the village of couples from all over the
world, so I should take my camera out and see how many I can 'snap'.
I have visit Vic in Gaborone - though he no longer belongs to the List - and
have had the fabulous experience of being taken all over Botswana and spent the
odd weekend in Jo'burg too. Stayed at the Ferndale Lodge, owned by a friend of
Vic's and had a host of warm memories I shall keep with me always.
I hope you will enjoy the site, and that you will also join binaries so you can
send us photos of your surroundings etc.
So, Jenny, Richard & Mark a very warm welcome to a great happy bunch.
Love
Phyllis

Subject: [SheffExpats] Intro
Hi,
Thanks for including me in your group.
To intro ourselves we; my husband Richard and our son Mark, came to Johannesburg
30 years ago to work in the medical field. I worked for 3 years in Saudi. We
came from Nottingham, but Richard's family is in Plymouth. He was born in Malta
(Marine family) My family were farmers in Leicestershire, now own stables there.
That's about all looking forward to chatting in proper English.
All the best
Jenny
