Hi folks
I NEARLY fell for this latest scam, but want to send out this warning to
all of you (which is why there is a long list of recipients!). I had an email
entitled 'tax Refund File Number 2009HMRC95841476X622. From all
appearances it looked genuine - and there is a phone number given saying
available
8am to 8pm 7 days a week. As I had had a letter recently about the same
subject, I thought it may be right. Well, I smelled a rat in time. Looking
closely at the 'sender' I saw that it was hmrc.co.uk. the correct one should
have been a .gov address, so I then looked it up on Snopes. Sure enough, with
exactly the same wording, came up a scam that is doing the rounds of
America. It is a blatant attempt at stealing your identity, as the form (which
I
had downloaded to check out) asks for all your details - NI number etc.
SO, please, please be careful if you get any emails like this. I am copying
the wording for you to see for yourself.
