Description

Thou might have heard me mutter once or thrice
In fair Japan I run a Shakespeare group.
'Tis my only virtue - nay, my vice
To quote the Bard 'midst bowls of miso soup.

Long before I went to ancient Siam
And saw the Rising Sun land in the sea
I've always loved to read a random iamb
And quote it to you pentametric'ly.

Shakespeare, anyone? This is an amateur group in Tokyo, meeting once a month to celebrate our love of the Bard. Come to read or just to listen. All nationalities are welcome, and no experience is necessary!

For more than ten years we have been assembling to read through and discuss one of the immortal plays from the Swan of Avon, usually alternating between one of the tragedies, comedies, and histories. Over the years, we have worked our way completely through the entire repertoire. We now get to start all over from the beginning. Won't you join us?

Every three months we vote both in person and online on our next play. Once a month I send an announcement about what the play is, and the time and place we'll meet to read it. I'll post reference materials on the Files page of this site as well: plot summary, vocabulary, etc. You can also find directions to the meeting place and other pertinent data on the Files page.

From time to time, I will also post information on upcoming theatrical events in and around Tokyo. If you have any such information that you would like to share with others, just send it to me and I'll pass it along.

If you are guilty of the sin of "Bardolatry", come join the club!
