Thanks for the reference. I could also loan my already programmed PSR-500 for a
small commission and deposit for his testing.

Maybe ill start a "loan a scanner" program, with deposit of course so they dont
just run off with the scanner.

Yes I am surprised he hasn't chimed in.

To tell you the truth there wasn't a whole lot to listen to from there
anyways. It seemed they took the Halton approach and most details went
across the terminals.

If your looking for a 396xt or 996xt you can most likely throw all the towers
into it and see what you can receive.

If you have not used this you are missing out on a lot of fun. He is
working on a version for 3600bd

From Mike

I've uploaded Pro96Com version 1.9.1 to the web site and is available at
http://www.psredit.com/pro96com

Release notes follow:

----------------------------------------------------------
Version 1.9.1
----------------------------------------------------------

* Updated RadioReference.com SOAP interface to version 7

* Removed support from the ini file for changing the URL for the
RadioReference.com WSDL file for the SOAP interface. This information
is now hard coded into the program.

* Added support for the Motorola experimental TDMA systems that are
being tested in some area. While these systems cannot be monitored
currently, the control channel can be decoded. As a part of this
update, you will notice a /0 or /1 after the frequency on TDMA voice
grants.
These values signify the slot number on the frequency being used by
that transmission.

* Added "S" column to the identifier table lists. The number in this
column signifies the number of time slots available in that table.
This value is used to calculate the frequency used in addition to the
base frequency and spacing.

No the reception isn't stronger its actually worse in my opinion on fleetnet
digital because you need a stronger signal or the digital breaks-down and gets
choppy. And fleetnet signal/settings is finiky in some areas to say the least.

The reason is that Mississauga Caledon Burlington etc are often also broadcast
on the Toronto &King tower so you'll hear them.

With fleetnet what you hear doesn't mean your getting reception direct from that
city/county it just means it's also broadcast on your local tower

No, it's not. A LOT of the traffic you'd hear is driving complaints
and fender benders. Very few foot pursuits and "holding one at
gunpoint" comms. I mainly listen when I need to know what's
happening on the 401 before it has a chance to screw me over.

Mind you, it's pretty good listening when the winter weather rolls in hard.

My curiosity is with how interesting it is to listen to OPP... is it as rich as
TPS? I have the money to buy the unit, I seen one reply here about my location
maybe not being so good to receive as much OPP as if I were elsewhere. Durham
region, considered all of Durham or just the local Whitby area? as that is where
a tower is.

I am thanking all for the replies, I am getting up and down feelings about
buying a digital unit. yes I am happy with analog receiving TPS I just thought
as an addition, the OPP on digital as well. But if it is not going to be as
busy(because of my location and elevation as mentioned a few posts ago) then I
will save my money.

As with what others on the thread have said, you should do just fine
with analog.

Unless you are absolutely on tenterhooks to listen to the OPP, you
should do fine with an analog radio. But, if you can afford it, a
digital scanner is certainly nice to have for those times you wished
you could listen.

But, that being said, there are people on this list who insist that
anything but digital scanners are useless.

The GRE's are known to be more sensitive then the Unidens so you may pick up
more but if you get all 4 Toronto towers then your not doing too bad now.

You'll get OPP in the Durham and Toronto area... Beyond that it's hit and miss
for getting other areas (Mississauga caledon aurora off the Toronto tower as you
face west.

If you want to listen to OPP you need a digital... If your fine with analog then
stick to the 330T and save your cash.

The scanner I want to buy is GRE PSR500 Digital Triple Trunking Hand held
Scanner. As seen on Durham Radio website.

I have a BR300t and pick up Toronto east and what seems to be the other towers
fine. East comes in best... I do see 11 div and 22 div ID's show up and are
really clean sounding, I get York region with some static but listenable.

I just don't want to buy a digital scanner and really not need one due to the
least amount of digital traffic I would pick up. I mentioned what I can receive
on the br300t (analog) as maybe someone can compare that if I can receive that
traffic from my location, that I would do as well with trying to receive digital
(OPP) outside the Whitby Durham region.

5th floor of a building facing west... How much local OPP would I likely pull in
