Welcome to the Save St Lucie Alliance, dedicated to stopping the construction of an industrial wind power plant on Hutchinson Island.

Commissioners are considering a Florida Power & Light Co. proposal to change the Hutchinson Island height limits to allow 400 ft + industrial wind turbines on the island.

Florida does not have sufficient wind for an industrial wind farm. However, because the enormous tax subsidies for wind power are based upon the cost to build, rather than the electricity produced, FPL is motivated to build wind turbines even in the absence of sufficient wind. This project is a fraud upon the tax and rate-payers of Florida who will pay for this boondoggle.

Moreover, these types of industrial wind farms create an enormous amount of noise as well as shadow flickers during the day and strobing from red aircraft lights at night. They are so huge that they are out of proportion to everything else and they dominate the landscape and can be seen from more than 30 miles away. They have destroyed communities in which they have been built and have destroyed property values to the extent that homes have been demolished because people cannot live near them. In fact, wind turbine noise alone is such a big issue that there are international scientific conferences held each year about it.
