Dear Sue
Thank you for your interest in health needs of populations in Siwa. I have established an NGO called Health For Remote  Areas (HRA) since 2003.  The primary objective of this NGO is to minimize the sufferings of people living in the remote areas of Egypt imposed by the paucity of health services. The NGO has a wealth of experience working in south Sinai and will be happy to organize expedition(s) to Siwa to provide services and training for the local population in health related issues.
Please let me know if I can help.
Amr Mourad, MD
HRA Chairman.

Hello Sue ,
I would recommend approaching UNICEF and WHO and the EU and may be SFD ( social fund for development ) besides the other NGOs whether national or international line save the children , care , women relevant organisations affiliated to Arab league ...
Each if these entities can forward u to others working in siwa
Of course u need to approach the ministry of health. ( best source is sfd for info and contacts )
Besides going and interviewing siwa citizens for first hand info ..
Am not sure what u r looking for exactly but there r tons of places to approach for info ..
Hope I was of any help ..
Pls let me know if u need any more help
Best regards ,

Oggetto: [SaharaSafaris Forum] visiting Egypt

dear all,
would you please send me recommendations for best/cheap hotels and trips for a family that would like to visit Egypt during Christmas time on a budget?

I suggested that they could do Cairo (pyramids, museum, tower, hanging church) Luxor/Aswan (if possible a nile cruise even if 3 days) and definitely Sharm or Nuweiba for snorkeling.

Any hints would be appreciated.

Dear Adham,
You can renew your licence anytime during its validity, but y'll loose the valid part,....i.e.: y'll have 10 years starting the renewal date NOT the expiry date of the present one.
You need also to offer 2 medical certificates as usual. ( ط¨ط§ط·ظ†ط© + ط¹ظٹظˆظ† )
Have a nice day,

Dear Mustafa,
Thank you for the message & the reminder of the original subject 0f 2009, which I enclose below for easy follow-up.
First, let me make some points clear:
* Please forget about the word "Mouled". It is only memorials (طھط°ظƒط§ط±ط§طھ ظˆظ„ظٹط³طھ ظ…ظˆط§ظ„ط¯).
* I have very limited knowledge about the subject.
* I never share in such events. This is just a personal attitude, and not because they are "wrong". You know in SSC we can discuss, but it is not our opinions that will make the subject right/wrorg.
* I have to correct what I mentioned in the 2009 message, that the Saint burried in Marriout is Pope Kyrellos 6, not 4,...just a silly typing mistake.
By the way, what about a trip to that Monstarey and the Old Monuments of Adou-Mina city @ Marriout desert ??

And now to your enquieries below.
Have a nice weekend,
mounir

  1. If those dates are fixed or vary according to Coptic calendar?
* The coptic Calendar is rather in fixed relation with the usual one around the year, not like the lunar one. That results in rather fixed dates for memorials of Martyrs & Saints, and most of coptic feasts. Almost only the Easter and related celebrations are related to the full-moon after the spring time
  1. How can we know about more mouled dates?
* Easy to find in some coptic Calendars, like El-Me7abbah طھظ‚ظˆظٹظ… ط§ظ„ظ…طط¨ط©  .
  1. How to know/ search about rituals of mouled? Could you kindly tell us stories or share references/ images...?
* The main book used in chuches for memorials is called "Seneksar" ط§ظ„ط³ظ†ظƒط³ط§ط± , and it it read in all the churches every day there is a service, and it tells about the Martyrs & Saits who went to heavens on that day.
You can find also separate detaled biographies and unlimited stories in so many books. Images are mostly found in some Icons and paintings. If you go to Sharm, go to the new Cathedral with you camera, you come back with enormous amount of photos. Not mentioning the old Icons & paintigs in old churches & Monstaries.
It will be my pleasure to join you if I can be of help.

Dear Sherwet,
To the best of my knowlage, in Christianity the festivals are done to celebrate the dates of derarture from this world to heavens, as it is a solid belief that we do not belong to this world and that we are here just temporary. So it is not a "Mouled" (which means a birthday).
I have to say that this concept was obsure to many lay people till shortly ago, and that is why they used to go and make a "mouled", before this is cancelled in the last era.

In every place there is a burried Saint, or where he lived, or a church/monstary on his/her name , there is usually an annual festival, with a fixed calendar around the year.
If you are looking for a near one, it may be that of Pope Kyrellos IV @ Saint Mina Monstary @ Marriout, on March 9th. I d'nt recommend that you go there that day , with expected more than a Million visitors (not kidding - a friend was obliged to park 2 miles away, and finally could'nt complete the visit because of the crowdness).
Personally, I never join these festivals, and I prefer meditation at a calm time.(just personal opinion). To be honest, on Dec 2003 I attended the celebration of Anba Hedra in the remenants of his historic monstary @ Aswan, as I was there by chance.
If I can be of any help, d'nt hesitate to contact.
Best regards,
mounir

Dear Moustafa,

1- If they are related to the Coptic calendar then they're almost fixed (or
perhaps there is a 1 day shift every 4 years between sept. 10 and feb. 29).

An exception for that is the celebration in Gebel El-Teir in Minia as it is
related to the Easter (and any other occasions related to Easter).

2- To know more about dates, I guess by experience, I know some poeple are
experts by time. I can slightly help you in some dates.

3- Usually the celebration for Christians in Egypt is for the date of martyrdom
of a saint, building the first church after the martyr's name or the arrivals of
his relics, all stories are locally well know to a great extent.

Personally, I attended only 2 celebrations, one in Cairo and the other south to
Luxor.

Gabi

In this context, the Center strives to introduce Cairene audiences to the different folk musics of Egypt, that express the diversity of cultures which make up the shared Egyptian identity, music from the Canal Zone, the peasants of the Delta, Nubia and the music rooted in the Sudanese Zar.

This Thursday, we present from Sinai, a region dear to the hearts of Egyptians, the music of the desert maguna (small, double flute) with nay (end-blown flute) and simsimia (lyre).

This Thursday, November 22nd 2012 we present the Bedouin band, Jerrycan and their main percussion instrument in the Damma Theater (formerly El Tanbura Hall).

Latest news:

El Tanboura is preparing for a tour in France from 22nd of November to 2nd of December 2012. The band will perform five concerts in Paris and in several other cities.

as all of us know, and as a matter of fact , and due to scientic hard evidence
these drinks are dangerous and extremly dangerous for our kids
and would be the best good office to produce a huge campagin aginst these drinks and cold and forbidding our kids drinking it by explaining them all the negative reasons behind it

Dear Safarists,
I have a cofirmed reservation for few cabins on board of a "5 stars delux" Nile Cruise Aswan/Luxor 25-28 Jan 2013.
As 24/1 is an official off day, I thought of travelling that day to Abou Simble then spending the night there or at Aswan, before boarding the cruise on the 25th. If interested, mail me directly <mounir_philips@...>.
The net cost will depend on the total number of participants, and shared according to the standard Sahara Safaris rules.
Have a nice day,
mounir

January 4, 2013 at 10:00am until January 7, 2013 at 11:00pm

An expensive but unique Hotel with unusually luxurious facilities in the far but acutely beautiful Dakhla Oasis.
Not your normal lodge, it hosted Hollywood stars, Opera Singers, European Fashion Designers, etc. Now is the time to live luxuriously with our friends and family in the desert :)

FOR RESERVATIONS IN ALTARFA ECO-LUXURY HOTEL:
SECOND AND FINAL DEADLINE TUESDAY 27th of DEC. DOWNPAYMENT OF EGP 500 per person.

-Estimated cost per person is EGP3000 (in a double room) Halfboard + Private plane return ticket for the group here. Kids 12 and younger half price in plane. This is for a Plane that leaves from Cairo Airport early Friday 4 Jan and back 3asr Monday 7 Jan. It arrives directly to Dakhla oasis where the Hotel is situated.
-Reservations are one package; rooms and planes (but not inclusive of trips or additional services like spa, etc.)
-Rooms are quite few, so first come first-served
-Estimated price depends on final count of people riding the plane, so it may change a bit.
-FOR MORE INFO/QUESTIONS EMAIL desertmoh@... WITH SUBJECT ALTARFA QUERY

IMPORTANT:
-Joining the plane is obligatory (tentatively) for all. The alternative of taking a 12 hours drive there and back has not been favoured by group, so we're taking the comfortable one since it's a one-time trip.
-Service in the Lodge (spa, horse rides, guided tours in town or 4x4s safaris are separate from this cost)
-Reservations will be done in 16 rooms only (some doubles and few singles) that could have additional beds (encouraged to fit more of us). That's very limited in capacity, so priority will be for those who pay the downpayment first (paid to keep obligations strict). And will be opened soon isA.

There are few points to note:
-although expensive and world-wide famous, don't expect a 7-star facility there. However, it has a Gym, limited spa, nice swimming pools (including a heated indoor one), lounges, excursions, etc.
-Transportation is not easy nor cheap, so we take the long-weekend
-socialising between families and friends will be nice once we split groups with different purposes and have good plans in the hotel
-there maybe few who wishes to chill quietly at the pool while others playing rough 4x4 on the dunes
-Yes! there will be a very special discount for SaharaSafaris Club but it will remain expensive (TBD)
-put all your questions on the group please and not the wall here.
