TGS files data on Sahara play
Norwegian seismic outfit TGS-Nopec has processed and delivered to
Kerr-McGee and TotalFinaElf some 85% of its deep-water survey of
prospects offshore Western Sahara adjacent to Morocco. However, no
fresh work will be undertaken until there are political changes,
according to the company's chief financial officer Arne Helland.
Having signed its controversial deal with Rabat, TGS had come under
increasing pressure from activist lobbies supporting a UN commitment
to hold a referendum for indigenes to decide if they want
independence.
Rabat has insisted on the suzerainty of Morocco, which currently
occupies the Sahrawi Republic whose government-in-exile is
recognised by most African countries.
