The Ramon cannot very accurately be based on any other ferry model. This
vessel replaced an earlier wooden ferry, the "Bridgit" which burned to
the water line after about two years of service. The Oakland, Antioch,
and Eastern contracted for the Ramon which was built west of Pittsburg in
a lagoon designed for the purpose. In order to save time, the Ramon was
constructed entirely of straight plates, which I take to be unusual in
marine construction. I suspect that a reasonable approximation of the
Ramon's dimensions could be determined from photographs.
