I hope to see a few of you at the Ellison Convocation this year. I am only going on Wednesday as that is also the day that they have the alumni luncheon.

Butter, I contacted STVU and they said that the conference fee was $90 for a particular day, as opposed to the whole $175.

I will be there on Veteran's Day (Wednesday, November 11th)...I will be pseudo-recruiting for the Navy.

I agree with Howard. The plight of poor communities in the richest nation is the world is horrific. It is a shame that churches daring to open in the name of Jesus are not uniting in addressing these problems our people face on a daily basis. James states in James 2:5-7 "Listen, my beloved brothers and sisters. Has not God chosen the poor in the world to be rich in faith and to be heirs of the kingdom that he has promised to those who love him? But you have dishonored the poor. Is it not the rich who oppress you? Is it not they who drag you into court? Is it not they who blaspheme the excellent name that was invoked over you?"

Let's be sure we carry out the business of the Kingdom of God while we work to become like those who don't want to offer affordable health care, borrow tax dollars from the poor, and dangle their wealth in the face of children who might not have a meal that has enough protein and antioxidants to care for their bodies.

“ leads me to think he was speaking about a black boy who could grow up

to be whatever. I don’t think in context he was calling Barack

Obama – the grown man – a boy.

It reminds me of statements like: how amazing that a young

Puerto Rican girl could grow up to be a supreme court justice; how amazing

that a young Mexican boy could grow up to be an astronaut..

That is my take on it. Let

I wanted to let you all know that on October 25 with a reception beginning at 6:00pm., the Alexandria Chapter of the NAACP Banquet will be held at the Hilton Mark Center in Alexandria....

The guest speaker/preacher for the night will be Rev. Dr. Joseph Lowery co-founder of the SCLC. I don't have to stress how important he is in the life of this nation and the history of the Civil Rights Movement...The NAACP and SCLC have opened many of the doors we now walk through and the work in.

I want you to join me on this special night as we hear from one of our living elders. If you are in this area then you need to be here with other Social Justice Advocates continuing the fight! You may even want to bring your youth to hear and see why America was forced to change! This could be a life changing event for them and a reminder for us that the fight still continues!
