South Shore Home Learners was founded in 2003 by a small group of families who share the following values regarding education and parenting:
Education - We believe in home-based learning. As a group we do not endorse any one resource, method or philosophy of home-based learning over another.
Parenting - We believe in the ideals of attachment parenting, including being emotionally responsive and maintaining positive discipline. For information about the philosophy of attachment parenting, visit www.attachmentparenting.org.
SSHL membership is open to all homeschooling families who are interested in these same principles, regardless of their educational methods or religious affiliations.
Our mission is to provide families with opportunities to be part of a harmonious homeschooling community where all who gather feel welcome and supported. Specifically, we offer opportunities for networking, communication and support via:
* Monthly Support Meetings. We invite all homeschooling families, and families considering homeschooling, to attend our monthly support meetings. These meetings are coordinated by the board members and focus on a different homeschooling-related topic each month. Information given at the meetings is for your own evaluation and as a starting point for your own homeschooling adventure.
* Events, such as group activities, field trips, family hikes, classes, family day camp, etc. SSHL organizes and sponsors a variety of activities throughout the year. Our activities are organized to be attended as families with all ages welcome at SSHL events. SSHL does not organize drop-off programs. All SSHL-sponsored events can be found on our calendar. Additional activities planned by members are dependent on the unique energies and interests that individuals bring to the group.
Please consider joining SSHL! Membership forms can be found in the files section.
