6 of us - Cat, Kevin R, Mike
M, David M, John H, Bev B.
went to Elk Ck near Galax.
Bright sunshine and 60 deg.
Elk was rolling at something
over 3 ft. Very fast and big
holes. Cat had a smooth day,
David had 1 nonplay flip and
roll, I left my boat in a
keeper eddy midstream and we
had to be creative to
retrieve it, Mike and John
had a minor flip each.
Kevin, on a big learning
curve, had some big time
rolls, several swims, got
really worked in a keeper
hole and flirted with a
serious strainer (got his
paddle back 1/2 mile
downstream). But does he
really handles himself well
on the river. Cat c-boated
her kayak for the 1/2 mile
and let Kevin use her
paddle. Thanks to John for
all the probing and roping.
We all had a day to help
grow our skills. Mexican
food.
