Polisario invites the UN to investigate in the Saharawi refugees camps the
Moroccan "allegations" of an uprising in favour of Rabat
Geneva, 03/06/2006 (SPS) Polisario Front "categorically" denied "Moroccan false
allegations", according to which "a political uprising took place in the
Saharawi refugees camps, with flags and pro-Moroccan slogans". It further
invited the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNCHR) to come investigate on
the ground, according to a press released publicised on Saturday by Polisario
Front Representation in Geneva.
"Put in difficult situation by the determination and firm will of the Saharawi
people wherever they are, in the occupied zones, in the liberated territories or
in the refugee camps, the regime of Morocco did not found other counterattack
except lies, manipulation and propaganda", the press release stressed.
"The only uprising" in the region, for the last 30 years, is that of the
"Saharawi people against the Moroccan colonial presence in the Western Sahara,
which is a presence maintained in complete disdain to the international law and
legality", the text added.
To be fixed about the truth or falsehood of these allegations, POLISARIO Front
invites the UNCHR to "immediately come to investigate, on the ground, of the
human right situation as a whole".
Morocco, which "pretends, these days, to be concerned about the respect of the
rights of Saharawis, can thus support this request", the press release stressed.
POLISARIO finally renewed its call on the UN to "undertake the necessary
measures so as permanent mechanisms of follow up of the human rights situation
be created in all zones where the mission of the MINURSO works" and especially
in El Aaiun, Smara, Dakhla and Boujdour so as to "prevent any drift and inform
the UN Security Council on the registered abuses".
Moroccan officials and press in Rabat and Paris pretend, these last two day,
that there is an alleged popular uprising in the Saharawi refugee camps in
favour of the Moroccan colonial thesis. (SPS)
