Dear Jojo,

The Syriac Orthodox church is neither "Jacobite" nor "Monophysite". In the words
of our Late Lamented Patriarch H.H Yakub III "(Our Church is).. unjustifiably
called by its enemies "Jacobite" ... It is also called "Monophysite" by its
opponents. "

The Christology of our Church is "Orthodox". No other term is
acceptable to describe the teaching of our Church.

I am not at all a theologian and is not the best person to answer your question.
However I will try based on what I have learned. Our learned priests and elders
can correct me if I am wrong.

The Christology of the Syriac Orthodox Church can be summarized as
given in the 'Faith and Doctrine' section of http://sor.cua.edu

"The Syriac Orthodox Church believes in the mystery of Incarnation.
That is, the Only Son of God, the Second Person of the Holy Trinity,
took to Himself a body and became man. It further believes that at the time of
Annunciation, when the Angel Gabriel was sent to the Virgin Mary, the Holy
Spirit came upon her and cleansed her of all natural impurity, filling her with
His grace. Then the Only Son of God came down and entered her immaculate womb,
and took to Himself a body through her, thus becoming a perfect Man with a
perfect Soul. After nine months, He was born of her and her virginity was
maintained contrary to the laws of nature. It further believes that His true
Godhead and His true Manhood were in Him essentially united, He being one Lord
and one Son, and that after the union took place in Him, He had but one Nature
Incarnate, was one Person, had one Will and one Work. This union is marked by
being a natural union of persons, free of all separateness, intermixture,
confusion, mingling, change and transformation.

The Syriac Orthodox Church calls Mary yoldath aloho, `Bearer of God', because
she gave birth to Christ, God truly incarnate.

The Syriac Orthodox Church believes that the death of Christ was the
separation of His soul from His body, but His deity did not at any time leave
either His body or His soul. It further believes that by His death for us, He
conferred upon us salvation from eternal death and reconciliation with His
Heavenly Father."

A good source is to read more about the 'Christology of St.Severious', whom we
remember in the 5th Diptych (Thubden) as "Patriarch St. Severius, the crown of
the Syrians, that rational mouth, pillar and teacher of all the Holy Church of
God"

http://www.orthodoxunity.org/article02.html

http://www.orthodoxunity.org/article03.html

Another good article is "The Oriental Orthodox Rejection of Chalcedon"
http://www.britishorthodox.org/113e.php

Also it would be great to review the chapters with resepct to the faith and
doctrine from the book "Syrian Orthodox Church Church of Antioch" by H.H Yakub
III

Dear Brothers

Great Lent is here. Time for Compassion and Repentance and prayer. We have
used Lord's name for anything and everything. Let us give Him back something,
something for Him to be proud of. A great Lent and TRUE REPENTED HEART.

This is true for SOC and IOC.

Let us all pray to observe the Lent in Spirit.

Dear IOC Brothers - can you give us a little mercy ? Let us withdraw all
cases from court. 100 years of cases. In ALL This 100 year we "OBSERVED"
Lent, without a TRUE COMPASSIONATE HEART. Or without a true GODLY HEART.
When we are fighting how can a lent be a Lent? Did we ever Glorify God? Did
we ever sacrifice anything? So please try for Peace. Peace makers are blessed
and will be rewarded.

My Prayers are for all of you. There are lots of lots of people in this world,
who need help from us. We can do miracles. This court cases, isn't it killing
us?

With Love and prayers. I am sorry if any one of you is hurt by writing. I did
not meant that way.

"I don't think the Patriarchal faction has any principles or scruples in their
actions. This was seen from the very beginning. I feel sad that my Church has
to lower itself down to their level in fighting for rights"
(Rev.Fr.M.K.Kuriakose Philadephia: IO Digest Feb.20)

I read the above sentence from the posting of a very learned priest in one
of the sister Forums. I read this and first thought of neglecting his
passing comment by praying for him in this Subkono season and look into
ourselves to correct myself. But the last sentence in the above quote
prompted me to respond with a note of correction.

Lent is the season for us to be more close to truth and humility, not a time to
shut eyes in front of false accusations or disparaging comments. So I want to
pin point the following:

1.Patriarch faction may also have lapses in its dealing in its spiritual and
organizational commitments due to the humanness of all those involved. So we as
a church need genuine prayers for pardon before God.

2.Rev.MKK flatly accuses us without any "principles or scruples in their
actions". I don't clearly understand what he meant by that? Is it a question
against the doctrinal, spiritual or the sacramental side or is it on the
factional stand? I take it for granted that he refers to the latter.

3. What are the 'principles' that come under this factional dispute? I welcome
MKK Achan to come forward and discuss point by point in an academic format and
let us try to sort out where we err or where we are suspected to be erred? I
will be trying my level best to clarify from our side with all humility.

4.Dear Achan, your comment, "my Church has to lower itself down to their level
in fighting for rights" seems to be very unfair in all Christian spirit. I
request pardon to write this.

5.Finally, I request all to have a retrospection from the time of the starting
of factionalism in our church. I confess I have subjective bias in my studies
and in my thoughts due to my familial and circumstantial upbringings. But my
constant association with documents related to our history of the factional
feud cannot attest to join with this statement from the Revered MKK.

I see the following unhealthy traits in the formation of your faction in the one
united Syrian Church Malankara that prospered under the blessed Patriarch of
Antioch after the separation of the Marthomites.

a) Breach of vow taken before the Holy Trinity.
b) Challenging the authority of the Spiritual head of the church.
c) Aspiring of all power and authority to oneself.
d) Disregarding co trustees and co bishops
e) Conspiring with deposed Patriarch
f) Uncanonical claims of establishment/ transfer of ecclesiastical offices.
g) Prompting dissension and factionalism in the Church.
h) Claims of equality of the Catholicate to the Patriarchate.
i) Claims of autocephaly negating the oneness of the Syrian Church.
j) Unhistoric claims of the St.Thomas throne.
k) Starting of litigation against parish churches and its members.
l) Claiming of parish properties
m) Seeking Police force to evict parish members from their church properties.
n)Denying formal burial to church members.
o)Resorting to manhandling at various levels.
p) Trivandrum episode is only the latest one.

I can illustrate these and many other issues that are a humiliation to all.
Factional sentiments should not lead us to blanket accusations.

I am sorry I had to dig these dirty pits once again. I was forced to do this
only to bring forth the truth when the truth was seen covered up and
stampeded upon.

Moolelachen.

13th February is a very important date for our Malankara Sabha Christians. It is
on that day, 75 years before Moran Mor Elias III Patriarch came here as an Angel
of Peace. Every year thousands and thousands of faithful come to pray at the
tomb of Moran at Manjinikkara on that particular day. This year was very special
because it was Morans 75th dukrono perunnal.

It is really mysterious why our opposing Manorama Orthodox members choose that
particular day for a protest march at Trivandrum. It was not a holiday. It was a
Tuesday. Many of the ‘not so hardcore’ Manorama sabha members had asked their
top people to shift the march to another day. But their leadership wants to run
that show that day itself. Here the Manorma leadership’s intention becomes very
clearer.

But one PERSON was seeing all this. The MANORAMA ORTHODOX PEOPLE may have the
powers to do anything; Two years back they laughed when Oommen Chandy’s police
beat our people with the help of their political and police stalwarts. But these
people continuously forget that there is a greater force in this Universe. It
was in no time the protest march organized by Manaorma Orthodox people become a
street violence and that too to the extend of an unprecedented level. Only one
day was required for the crash of the so called boosted-up image of Manorama
Sabha. Wonder that all this happened on 13th February itself, the day of Moran’s
dukrono, a day which they could have left as it is instead of a protest march.
(STILL THEY PREACH THAT THEY ARE FOR PEACE). It is a common practice from age
old days to avoid fighting in a holy day, but Manorma Orthodox people who claim
to be Christians forget all this.

It is said that Manorama Church’s leadership lost control of their just over
2000 odd followers (Remember this is inspite of their leadership’s command to
bring people in two buses atleast with people from each of their so-called ‘1200
odd churches’ in kerala !!). One group of Manorama Orthodox said that the
violence was the handwork of our people, another group led by their leadership
put the blame on some police men, some blame it on political parties, but the
photos and video shows who all were lying. All this ‘kolahalam’ has now extended
to the memory day of Vattasseril Thirumeni. Is it just a coincidence?

"My bother, the passions are afflictions; and so the Lord does not excommunicate
us because of them, but He says: 'Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will
deliver you, and you shall glorify Me' (Ps. 50:15). Therefore, when beset by any
kind of passion, there is nothing more useful than to call upon the Name of God.
All we can do, weak as we are, is to flee for refuge to the Name of Jesus. For
the passions, being demons, retreat if this Name is invoked."

Dear Brother in Christ Matthew,

I agree totaly with your reply. But it could be useful to explain why we don't
recognize Chalcedoine as an ecumenical council. I think that the problem was the
cutting up of our patriarcate to give an independant one to Juvenal of
Jerusalem. The Synod rejected this robbery and Maxime was obliged to abdicate in
455. Then the Byzantine persecution of our Church began.

Respected Members,

We are the temples of God and as a general view; members of Holy Church is the
body where Christ is the head. The Holy Eucharist, that is the Holy Body and
Blood, links and renews this divine relationship of each of us with Christ Jesus
through Holy Church. This exercise, of experiencing the power of Christ which
was shared with us does never have any limitation from HIM. The only limitation
we could find here is the weakness from us, as a human. We gather Holy Church
only for gaining this experience with God.

If any one ask what is Holy Qurbono? The simplest answer would be Jesus Christ.
An external substance- the bread and wine is transformed into the real blood and
body of God. Quite often unfortunately this awareness and there by the
cultivation of this reality, is not taken into account properly. My point is not
to bias anyone rather, just to point our faults which seem to be injustice in
front of Jesus Christ.

When someone says, I go every week to Church; it’s a quite good sign. But if
he/she is not becoming the part of HIS body, then what would be the use of
going? This would be the common attitude of the majority of the members in our
Church. Often we are forgetting the real presence of Christ Jesus there at Holy
Table. St Baselios asks this experiencing once in forty days for HIS real
presence in us. When we say presence, it really means the physical presence of
Christ more than a spiritual. Both really differ. We would be more close to each
other, if we talk to each other physically, rather than virtually. And there
by, the experiencing of Holy Qurbono is really the experience of physical
presence of Christ in us.

From the Syriac tradition we have marvelous hymns, which are useful for the self
repentances and also for the joyful harmony with God. They all are well
flavored, in our services. But the present trends to add cinematic/church coir
defined tones to those hymns are inappropriate. I feel this tendency of filling
those tones to our services, makes the attendees just a viewer rather than a
participator. Our priests need to take necessary steps to use the correct hymns
as well as its tunes in Holy Qurbono.

It was surprising for me, when I heard a priest conducted prayer for a person
who “sponsored” Holy Qurbono. Simply paying XXX amount, do we think that the
real participation of the Holy Eucharist is fulfilled? Or is that all the money
matters? Is this could be a sponsored program which needs to be announced?
Frankly speaking, it’s painful, if we approach here with a mentality, just like
an advertisement sponsorship for TV serial or program. Again is that not
inappropriate to use “He/She sponsored” for conducting Holy Qurbono? Literally,
this usage sense to be like a TV program sponsorship. Rather it can have used
“Offering” or any other appropriate word.

May these lending be helpful for us to experience Christ physically rather than
virtually!

In HIS Love,

Dear All in Christ,

Having studied the 20th century history of Malankara church and
being an onlooker of what is going around I have a humble
suggestion. We are sentimentaly attached to the holy relics of our
fathers and want all the closed churches to get opened for this
reason only. It is a fact that IOC leadership want wealth only. Look
at the the statement of Mathews Mar Sevarios (he and his group are
vowed to destroy all Jacobite churches to the north of Ettumanoor !!
Why the south is spared no body knows. Are they afraid of manarcadu
or manjanikkara parishoners?) he says that they want all the wealth
of churches with them.

Though it is painful give the wealth and institutions to IOC
leadership but they should allow us to keep the possession of the
holy churches and Shrines only.

Few examples.
1) Give them the property and Seminary building at Aluva (worth
crores of Rupees) but the church were the tombs of our holy fathers
are contained should be given to us for ever.

2) Idukki Cheruthoni St.Mary's. This small church built by out late
H.B Paulose II also have a school which is now controlled by the
defected Thomas Mar Athanasius.(who was chosen and ordained by H.B).

Give the School (wealth) to them and take the possession of the
church.

If this can satisfy their greed and bring permanent peace in
Malankara, our church heads may think of this suggestion.

In his love

I read the following quoted statement from the advocate of Edessan
connectivity of Indian orthodox instead of Syrian orthodox church. Based on that
Edessan connection he usually puts forward arguments for a disconnect of Indian
orthodox church from Syrian orthodox church. He wrote

"As a layman, my understanding is that it is the same Orthodox faith -
theoretically all are in the OO communion. But why this difference among the
people of the Malankara Church only? Why we fight instead of remaining united
under one H. Synod? What faith are we protecting when we know there is only one
faith? Shouldn't we support keeping the ancient Malanakra Church as one integral
Church and hand it over to the future generation gracefully? "

My dear brother,

That ancient Malankara Syrian Orthodox church was in INTEGRAL connection with
Syrian orthodox church for centuries. The OO faith and traditions found in the
Malankara Christians of all denominations came from that old Syrian orthodox
church. The jacobites are staying united with that ancient church. All those
profess OO faith in Kerala are welcome to join them. Jacobites are not standing
for separation. Jacobites are standing for PRESERVATION. We know the task is
difficult. But the jacobites think
the preservation of that Orthodox faith in Kerala is a serious matter and it is
best served by remaining in integral link with the Syrian Orthodox Church and by
accepting Patriarch as the Spiritual Leader.

Now Brother, who is spoiling/Spoiled that one integrated Orthodox church in
kerala ? Ask that to yourself before stoning His Beatitude THOMAS 1 again. H.B
Thomas 1 is only an agent of the Holy Spirit. He is chosen to do the
PRESERVATION at this time.

"Be free, though you are bound in a body, and for Christ's sake show forth
obedience in your freedom. But also be prudent in your simplicity, lest you be
plundered. Love humility in all your activities, that you be delivered from the
imperceptible snares that are always found outside the pathways of humble men.
Do not reject afflictions, for through them you will enter into the knowledge of
the truth; and do not fear temptations, because therein you will find precious
things. Pray that you enter not into the temptations of the soul, but with all
your strength prepare yourself for those of the body. Without these you cannot
draw nigh to God, because divine rest is laid up within them."

Greetings!

A Perfect Friend - [A Bible Devotion]

PROVERBS 18:24
24 There are friends who pretend to be friends, but there is a friend who sticks
closer than a brother.

Would you like to have a perfect friend?

A friend who loved you no matter what you did.

A friend who would always be there when you needed them.

A friend who knew you intimately yet still loved you.

A friend who always encouraged you and never put you down.

A friend who was smart but not conceited.

A friend who had no personal problems to distract them.

A friend who was powerful and famous, yet down-to-earth and approachable.

A friend who is righteous yet merciful to others.

A friend who never makes a mistake.

A friend who enjoyed having a good time and sharing a laugh with you.

A friend who had the knowledge and ability to help you with everything.

A friend who is not too good to wash your feet or clean your shoe, yet talented
enough to be the best at everything.

A friend who puts your interests ahead of their own.

A friend who loves you more than you love yourself.

A friend who would be willing to die for you.

There is only one. His name is JESUS, and He wants to be your friend.

JESUS is OUR friend.

At the outset let me say I am grateful for the response.

I am amused by the statements on the theological maturity of the people in the
south. Before the whole issue of Petrine position was raised the other side
raised the issue of St. Thomas' Throne. Now they say we raised it! It reminds me
of their using MARTHOMA which the Marthoma Church was aggrieved about though in
their decency they did not make an issue of and later complaining about Baselios
Cyril using the title of Catholicos as if they have a copyright on the "trade
mark". What disparaging statements came from scholars including some who taught
in the Seminary!

I agree that the Petrine supremacy does not make him a demigod and or place him
above other apostles. However Peter and his faith are inseparable. There are many
studies on the issue. Oscar Cullman is not a Catholic but there are others who
are Catholics who have written on the subject.Cullman himself admits that Peter
had a special place.I admit that the Petrine theology of MALANKARA has undergone
a change over the last 30 years. When I was a sunday school boy the teaching was
not what some of the MALANKARA Patriarch faction today make it to be.We hardly
had any St. Peter's Church those days, it was almost always Ss. Peter and Paul.
The Patriarch himself has dedicated his new church in Mara Sadnaya Seminary
campus to both together.Personally I have come to hold the view that Peter from
whom his faith is undetachable is the Rock.In fact Moran Zakka still holds that
it is the faith confessed by Peter. With the freedom an indulgent father gives a
grown up son we have often discussed (considering the personal equation I should
not use the word ARGUE!) this matter which always ended by Moran saying lightly
that he was telling what he heard from his teachers especially Aprem I and I was
influenced by the writings of subsequent theologians in English! My limited point
here is that the concept of Petrine Supremacy had undergone an evolution in
Malankara, and not the least of the reasons therefor is the Thomas claims
raised.

Two more comments are warranted.

One is about the use of the word UNIVERSAL. It does not mean geographical
universality. After Peter we had two Patriarchs, one for the Jewish and the other
for the gentile converts. When Igantius Noorono became the only one the others
(denomination would not be an accurate expression today since now that word has
derived a different meaning) said they would also accept him as patriarch. So he
became Patriarch for the universal church which only means church with Jews and
Gentiles. It should not be a matter of offence any more than the Catholicose of
the East reaching America by crossing the Pacific and avoiding the Atlantic: you
go on and on eastward and you have USA also under THE East!

The second point is about the Constituiton. I have never ridiculed it. I may
have made light-hearted comments about the way it is being projected as if it is
EVANGELION and misinterpreted as EVANGELION has been through the centuries. I
have great regard for the brains that understood the need for it and the brains
that drafted it which even took into account a repetition of AbdulMasih/ Abdulla
type situation. The US War of Independence started as a struggle within the
British Empire and the French Revolution began on issues of democratic
philosophy. Yet the French revolutionaries dethroned a blue blooded King and
made a petite corporal from Corsica an Emperor while USA matured into a stable
democracy. The American achievement was possible because the founding fathers had
the vision to put in place a constituion.

Therefore do not for a moment think that I am aginst the Constituion, my only
grievance is that you cannot distort the constituion to accept what suits you
ONLY.There is no need to compare the SOC Constituion since the environments are
distinct.I also agree that the so called 2002 byelaws of the JSCC which is the
legal entity headed by Thomas I who is CATHOLICOSE and not Catholicose of the
East and who is not Malankara Metropolitan but only the Metropolitan Trustee
would not have been the springboard of challenge if the Devalokam faction had
followed the 1934 Constituion IN TOTO. The advice fo Shanti Bhushan is only that
for those churches which accepted the Constituion after 1958 it would be binding
ONLY if the position of the Patriarch is accepted by the other side in the
spirit in which the founding fathers meant it. Well, this is a debatable point.
Let the courts decide.

To my mind the whole issue will begin to reflect the light at the end of the
tunnel if Didimos Bawa responds to the Patriarch's bull accepting the SC
verdict. I am requesting the SOC Forum to republish it so that the sheep on the
Devalokam side would appreciate the gravity of the blunder committed by their
THEN leadership in ignoring the Patriarch. It has been in the air for a decade
and more. Had that opportunity been grabbed then the subequent story would have
unfurled in a different, and hopefully more Christian, way. Then, as indeed now,
the Devalokam group is the source of strength for the extremists on the
Patriarchal side. Many may not know that the internal politics of that side have
a big role in lighting up the Thrikunnathu Semianary issue again.

Let us pray for guidance. In the meantime let none be judged guilty by his own
conscience. As for my conscience it does not hurt, at least not yet!

>Dear respected Babu Paul.

>I respectfully disagree with the observations of Babu Paul regarding why
>Southern regions experience more peace. In my opinion it is not an issue of
>majority, rather the people of the Orthodox faction were taught by bishops
>and priests in the right way - giving more importance to Orthodox faith.
>Kindly read the works of Metropolitans and priests from the Orthodox Church
>- they consistently stress only what is important in the Orthodox faith.
>The kind of extremism about throne, supremacy, Petrine Primacy we see in
>Jacobite bishops is not seen in Orthodox bishops and priests. Examine all
>writings over so many years, you can observe this. We also see many
>Jacobite side bishops in history who worked to unite the Church based on a
>consensus about our is important in Orthodox faith. We honor St. Peter as
>chief Apostle like all Orthodox Churches, but that is not used to divide
>people and establishing a supreme universal rule.

>In Northern regions (perhaps due to the influence of RC), a strong faith in
>Petrine supremacy and associated extremism developed. This is a key issue.
>I am sure Dr. Babu Paul is also attracted to RC because of this aspect. It
>was people from North ( I don't want to reveal a matter because of a
>promise given to Babu Paul sir few years ago) who pressurized the Patriarch
>to impose a supremacy based on Pertine supremacy.

>Agreeing that St. Peter is specially honored in the Orthodox Church, if
>Bishops and leaders from North Kerala can teach only what is important in
>Orthodoxy setting aside extremism based on throne, universal rule etc., the
>situation will dramatically improve.

>I would like to mention one more thing, not meant to offend any one. SOC
>also has a constitution which was amemded many times. I have the 1998
>version. In that "Malanakra' is in the list of dioceses of SOC- last or
>second to last in the list. Is Malankara just a Diocese? I have read many
>articles in which Dr. Babu Paul making fun of the constitution of the
>united Malankara Church. How can a person like you experienced in
>administration ridicule the constitution of the Church? What is your
>attitude towards SOC constitution which was modified many times? Kindly
>show some respect when you write about the Church, rather than adopting the
>same style as extremists from North. This is what we expect from people
>like you with influence in state administration. I grew up in the Jacobite
>faction and over many years my understanding is that the whole issue is
>based on misleading ordinary people about faith. If possible kindly reject
>RC teachings and help our people to learn the unity taught by Orthodox
>Church fathers in Diptych #5. Orthodox Churches are in dialogue with RC. We
>can wait to develop fanaticism (if needed) about throne and supremacy.

>Let us first accept the VISIBLE Malankara Metropolitan who is legally valid
>and them think about the suprme universal rule of an invisible Patriarch.
>Parumala Thirumeni accepted the legal Malankara Metropolitan. Kindly show
>that humility and we can together decide the nature of our relationship

Dear all,

IOC Delhi Bishop is running to meet CPM leaders, whom they regularly called
'ungodly people', in Delhi. It means the Bishop is trying to stop the TVM
episode's police investigation. If investigation continues, may be their guilty
will reveal. otherwise they can blame against Jacobites. So we have to
concentrate the IOC games.

Dear Members,

After the notorius IOC hooliganisms at Trivandrum, if you look through the
responses of IOCeans from USA & other foreign countries, it is very interesting
to see that they ONLY SAW the police 'atrocities' and NOT THEIR OWN destructive
actions infront of all media, which the whole world saw!!! There are now
several IOC 'padanayakans' from USA, including clergies, who are sending daily
3-4 e-mails to all their e-groups 'condemning' police actions, shedding
crocodile tears and giving FREE e-mail advises to their fellow members in
Kerala, what to do next (like to sue against the Kerala Government etc)!!!! But
NONE OF THEM are ready to come to Kerala, and participate in their advise
implementation or to become a "padanayakan" for IOC!!!!!! However, there are
some rays of hope as well. SOME meaningful messages from 1-2 laity appeared in
their forums, lamenting on their own fall from spirituality to hooliganism. See
the comparison of such lamentations of laity Vs Clergy.

The Trivandrum Incident? Who has got the courage?

Dear Malankara Christian brethren, shame on all of us, shame on every
household, shame on every individual among us. I am afraid, we all have lost
direction. The true Christian values are long forgotten. We have somehow
degraded ourselves so much so that political parties stay at a level above us.
We have proved once again to the whole world of believers and unbelievers alike
that we are mere namesake Christians and nothing more. We do not have the right
to use the name of Jesus Christ who has given his life for the sake of all
mankind. We do not have the right to wear the Cross of the Savior, which is the
sign of suffering. We do not have the right to sermon on Love, that is all what
is about Christianity.

We build "Churches" and establishments with brick and concrete all over the
nation and abroad. We are proud of our Church buildings and Cathedrals. We are
proud of our heritage and the monuments of the past. We struggle to own and
maintain "Churches" and establishments at every nook and corner of the earth. We
have been asked to spill the last drop of our blood for the sake of "Churches".
But dear Malankara Christian brethren, we have forgotten our "Church", which is
the true body of our Savior. We have forgotten the members of the "Church" who
are our brethren. When are we going to realize
the fact?

Who is responsible? Is it the Clergy or the Laity? Let us sit down and think
with a clam and clear mind. Where are we going? We had been
struggling for ages; we had been fighting since ever we can remember. Could we
find any solution? I do not thing we can find any solution even if we fight for
another thousand years. Court orders or any success in litigation will not alter
the course of history.

The simple reason is we have lost direction since so long. Let us
turn-around and correct our course. It is high time. Let us do it now. Let us
show to the world that a fraction of the true Christian virtues are still
remaining within in us. Who will lead this initiative? Again, the Clergy or the
Laity? Who has got the courage to lead the Church in the correct course?

Let us face material loss. Yes, let us lose some of the "Churches", but be sure
we will end up saving the "Church". Who has got the courage? Who has got the
courage? Is there any spirituality left? Do we have any wisdom left? Do we have
any Love left?

The Great Lent is on the door. Can we fast for the "Church" not for the
"Churches"? Can we fast for the "members of the Church", not for the "members of
the Churches"? The need for a correct solution is ever more compelling and is
indeed the need of the time. Let us not lose our younger generation. For God's
sake, Clergy and Laity, who has got the courage to act? Now?

Dear Moderator
What happened today at Trivandrum in front of Secretariate is what no christian
should ever do. Some people participated in the procession were abusing even
priests who was trying to control the crowd. Even Thirumenis were shouted down
at the meeting place. Public properties were damaged and people were put to
great inconveniance. Police Officials beleiving the leaders, were in small
numbers. One thing is very clear. They are worse than people belonging to
Patriarch faction. An organisation which can not control its 'faithful
followers' will not have much future.

I am sure that more than 90% of orthodox christians who are sincerely praying
for the church will agree that it is time for calling off all this agitations.
We should realise that none of the people who is behaving like outcast, whether
it is a layman, priest or thirumeni is going to join christ in his second
coming, but will be sent to hell, as their behaviour is totally not expected
from Chritian.

I think let us not leave the church to few extremists who wants to make our
church like Punjab in eighties.

Only God can save our church and all of us pray and fast for the same on this
occasion of entering to great lent.

The Trivandrum incident was very sad and unfortunate. This is not
the time to throw mud at each other, but take it as a challenge, stay together,
pray together to strengthen our Mother Church. We have to strongly support our
Bava Thirumeni in every respect.

The members of the Orthodox Church all over the world have to show
our concern in this incident, to the government authorities.

I feel that, if possible, at least each parish should meet together
under its Vicar, pass a resolution and send to the Chief Minister of
Kerala, The Prime Minister of India and the President of India, to
express our concern and protest in this regard.

God Bless us all.

Mr. Thomas Mann,

You have brought up an important issue within our church today. In my
liturgical theology course, we've been discussing and studying the problem of
modern day practices of the Eucharist. As you ask, what is the point of
attending Kurbana?

I know of people who don't take the Eucharist at all. They nonetheless attend
Kurbana as spectators. As our professor said, it's like being invited to a
dinner, and not eating! We come to the banquet table of Christ for the main
reason of partaking His body and blood.

Much time, energy, and work has been spent on the transformation of the bread
and wine into His body and blood. It's been asked how exactly is bread and wine
transformed into Christ's body and blood. When does it happen? How does this
miracle take place? In asking and focusing on these kinds of questions, we miss
the entire point of the Eucharist. The greatest miracle of our Kurbana is NOT
the bread and wine becoming the body and blood of Christ, BUT the miracle of the
Eucharist transforming the one who takes it! Because Christ lives in us and we
in Him, we are no longer the same person. This is THE miracle.

We must of course prepare ourselves beforehand to receive Him. This comes
through the practice of fasting and confession, especially during the Great
Lent. These practices are different forms of prayers that we offer to God to
cleanse ourselves before receiving Him. As Mary was cleansed by the Holy
Spirit, we too need this cleansing for Christ to be born in us.

Let us not forget the awesome transformative power given to us in the
Eucharist as we come prepared and ready.

God Bless,
George Aramath

Dear All

Recent incidents in TVM by a section christen are shameful act for entire
christen community especially for JSC and IOC. This type of acts in both
churches will help others to gain victory for those who want ruin the
spirituality of Syrian Christans. As per my observation very few people from
the southern part of Kerala know the history of Syrian christen thus their
spirituality have been diluted with materialistic world. They have been
deviated the main stream of Syrian Christanity and trying in vein to exist.,
that is why more often we find reformer churches/split groups / pentcostal
churches in sothern kerala. Most of the followers of Syrian christen does not
know the tradition/system hence most of the history have been filtered/carved
for their own convenience by vasted interest.

I strongly feel that the episode in TVM have been dramatized by event managers
to show the strength of particular section. It might have high political stir up
in these events which has been miserably failed and back fired.

I sincerely appeal MJSOC leader ship not to divulge in any political affirmity
but to seek a honest and honorable/amicable settlement of church dispute. In
the event of any dilution of politics in church matters, we may end up with loss
of spirituality and degrade our church. As a caution, if we give a change to mix
our spirituality with politics, we will land up in trap of power greedy
politician and at last we remain as govt governed body - like Devasom Board
at Kerala. There are good chances of our laymen wither away to other churches.

Let me add, my fellow SOCM/MJSOC members not to be joyous of others fall (on the
above incident)and let us pray for them in this Holy Lent and forgive them as
a christen way. I would like to remind you all 28th wise saying of King
Solomon

“ Don’t be glad when your enemies meet disaster, and don’t rejoice when they
stumble. The Lord will know if you are gloating and he will not like it; and
then perhaps he might not punish them” Proverbs Ch. 24 : vers 17

I am fully confident that neither the verdict of a court nor a group of persons
can remove Syrian christen spirituality/connection to Antioch. That is why MJSOC
have survived earlier schisms. It will go strong day by day when we face more
prosecution.

With prayers.
