As you said, this 'St. Pauls Mission of India' is "run" by a laity (I don't want
to give the name here), and he keeps Philoxinos Thirumeni as its patron, to show
others that it is an 'official' missionary wing of Jacobite Church.  However, as
far as I understand, the official missionary wing of Jacobite Church is "St.
Paul's Mission", with its H.Q. in Muvattupuzha. The 'director' of this 'St.
Paul's Mission of India' was once active in the official missionary wing, but
left it and started his own 'missionary field work', reasons which I am not
fully aware. He is using his own 'missionary' work to generate funds, all of
which is controlled by him only. He is having TV evangelism as well. When you
ask the forum members for contribution to his works, it is better to investigate
his 'mission works' first and the transperency of funds utilization, and then
suggest to donate or not. I am not criticizing him in full, as he is doing some
missionary work in tribal areas, but want to stress that it is NOT the official
missionary works of 'Jacobite Church'. The entire assets are in his name and the
show is run by him, with assistance of some priests as well. This is only to
warn our members who want to donate anything to 'missionary works', to
investigate the concerned association and then do at your own will.

discussions about both spiritual and historical heritage of our church. This

is 6 years old today, November 15th. We place our heart-felt thanks at HIS Feet
and convey our thanks and appreciation to you for all your tremendous support
shown to SOCM during these years.

"A long journey starts with a single step." This phrase is apt in the evolution
of SOCM-FORUM as you see it today.

On 15th November 2000, started this internet discussion forum, to glorify God
Almighty as well as to disseminate the truth to the world. The initial handful
members and their hard work paved way for the forum to be grown to the present
membership of 3500+ and becoming premier in all such forums available in the
electronic media. Now it is managed by seven dedicated moderators from all parts
of the world. The success of this forum was due to your full support and by the
grace of God Almighty, and all praises are for HIM only.

From its humble start up, in 2004 the forum got the strength and support to
start other ventures to spread the gospel. The e-magazine `Shroro'
(http://socdigest.org) was the first among them. This e-magazine is dedicated to
the Syrian Orthodox Christians all over the world and carries various inspiring
articles from scholars of all walks of life.

The success of this e-magazine gave us courage to go for the next venture. The
starting of the SOCM PRAYER CELL http://groups.yahoo.com/group/socmprayercell),
a 24-hour chain prayer group, on the 5th birthday, is another milestone to our
history. Praying for others is taken as a commandment from God by many of you.
The membership we received from all parts of the world for this prayer group
shows its success as well. The regular free matrimonial advertisements given in
the forum was beneficial for many youngsters to find their life partners.

As a blessed tradition and the accepted practice of our Holy Church, from time
immemorial, we request the parish priest to remember the name(s) of persons who
celebrate Birthday, Wedding Anniversary etc or for the blessings or as thanks
giving or the name of a sick person or someone who is in troubles or the
departed dear and near ones; at the Holy Altar during the Holy Qurbono. But, due
to emigrational dispersals, now we reach and live in many corners of the globe,
where many of us do not have enough co- believers to start a parish or we cannot
do it due to the local regulations and so we have no chance to take part in a
Holy Qurbono - nor can we ask a church or a priest to remember a name on a
particular day/date. Taking into consideration of this un-fortunate
circumstances, SOCM come forwarded with a helping hand to such people who are
living in a place where they cannot have access to Holy Qurbono. We named the
new endeavor as "DUKHRONO" (commemoration).  Such a person and if in case want
to place/remember a name or names on occasions like Birthdays, Anniversaries, 
for blessings for a sick person,Memorials (Aaneedhe) or for any other special
occasions,  they can send us an e-mail (dukhrono@... or
dukhrono@...) at least two days prior to the date of need; we do arrange
to place the name(s) on the Holy Altar during Holy Qurbono. Right now Holy
Qurbono is available on Sunday, Monday, Thursday and Friday. Many of our Bishops
and Priests in the Forum have offered this service voluntarily.

All SOCM activities are now grouped together in an umbrella site known as
"http://www.socmnet.org".

This site is envisaged as a platform for all the activities of SOCM, such as the
Discussion Forum 'SOCM-FORUM, E-magazine 'Shroro', 24 hrs chain prayer service
'SOCM-Prayercell', Remembrance in Holy Qurbano service 'Dukhrono' and
additionally a 'Resource', 'FAQ' and 'News' sections are also added here. Any
visitor to the http://www.socmnet.org can get access to the respective sites and
make use of it. More activities and useful information will be added to this
platform in coming days.

"SOCMNet" and "Mor Adai Study Center" is now jointly working on publishing the
English translation and detailed commentary of "MADOPADESHASARAANGAL" (The faith
and creed of Malankara Nazranis) from its original text. This was composed in
Malayalam by the great Syriac scholar of the 20th century of the united
Malankara Church, Vattasseril Geevarghese Malpan (later Vattasseril Geevarghese
Mor Divannasios) from the works of the Maphryono Mor Gregorios Bar `Ebroyo such
as Mnorath Qudshe, Zalge, and the Hudayo Canon and works of other Syriac
Fathers.Our aim on this publication is to bring the true faith of our Malankara
church, upholded by the forefathers, to the general public, especially to the
second generation English speaking malayalees of our Church and what was aimed
by this book at the time of its original publication and was the intention of
the author then.

The translation task was undertaken by Prof. O.M Mathew Oruvattithara, M.A.;
LL.B; M.A.(R.Sc.), Retired Professor of Baselios College, Kottayam, and a
well-known scholar. The book will be officially released on 26 December 2006 as
our 6th birthday project, is another milestone to our history.

The tremendous support we receives from you all for these ventures make us
humble in front of God Almighty, and once again request your prayer support for
us to carry out our duty impartially and without fail.

On this 6th birthday of the forum, moderators, along with you all, humbly submit
ourselves to HIM and rededicate ourselves to work for the glory of God Almighty
and for HIS Church in this world.

It is our vision that the Forum will eventually become an integral tool for
dispersing Syrian Orthodox Church's true faith and will contribute to the spread
of the Gospel among unheard.  It is also our ambition to promote an e-learning
course in Bible Study, Church history and  Orthodox faith, starting from an
authenticated source, which will lead the  participants to obtain a
diploma/degree, upon its completion. We request each and everyone's prayer
support to achieve our goals.

Let HIS name be glorified through all these collective efforts, let us now
re-submit and re-dedicate ourselves at HIS Feet.

Church appeals by Indian Orthodox Church in Supreme Court Of India has been
adjourned for six weeks from 21st November to which date it was posted.

The members of the IOC who challenged Didimos Catholicos mentioned for an
adjournment. Their lawyer said that Appeal is pending in High Court against
decision of District Court approving consecration of Didimos as Catholicos.

They actually wanted adjournment till their appeal in High Court is decided. The
lawyer of Indian Orthodox Church did not seriously oppose the request for
adjournment.

Regardless of Make or Year or Tithe Amount, all units known as "human beings"

The strength of Christian faith is nothing but the fruitful discussions
(Critique) that which enabled the Church to journey in lovely, dark and deep
woods. Here, SOCM Forum served and serves as an official Medium to bring the
concerns not only from the Prelates and Scholars but also give due importance to
that which highlighted through common people. "Church lives in Common People" is
a very encouraging sign for the 21st Century Jacobite Syrian Orthodox faith.

What you have done and doing will always remember with gratitude. On this

May the Lord Bless You and Keep You.

Amongst our busy and hectic schedule, our moderators have sacrificed themselves
for His service.  Let us all keep them in our prayers while also asking for
God's continued guidance in the future.

A few points:
1) It's inspiring to hear from others whom I'd never think subscribe to SOCM
Forum.  Though they don't write, they find this forum a great resource.

2) It's unfortunate that sometimes faith questions are ignored while questions
related to other less important matters are focused upon. Again, let us look
towards the future, not the past (though we must learn from our past, too).

3) As we look towards the future, let our messages on this forum also do the
same: What is Orthodoxy?  How do we reach out to our youngsters?

4) As a continuation of the #3, I hope each of us can spread the word about this
forum to our youth.  Mention it in Sunday school meetings, youth conferences,
etc.

5) I pray that more of our younger members will write on this forum. They have
questions about our faith but are hesitant to write.

And with this, let us be encouraging in our responses.

6) What a great idea!  An "e-learning course in Bible Study, Church history and
Orthodox faith".  I pray that it will bear fruit.

Let's always keep in mind:
"The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest,
therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field" (Luke 10:2)

Dear all,

I agree with Mr.Sunny in this regard.This missionary organisation is not working
with the principles and spiritual practises as practised by Syrian Orthodox
church.The group is against Saints and faithful departed.The people of this
group are insulting the holy relics of our saints at different places including
Manarcad Church where they referred the Holy Soonoro as 'pazham thuni'(old
cloth).This is truly disgrace to our Church and in my personal opinion I urge
the forum members not to co-operate with them.

They are running a Bible college. What is the use of such a college,if we
already have a Seminary and several dayros?

The people of this group distributed pamphlets in our church at
Thiruvananthapuram questioning the prayers of Hasho(Passion week) with stupid
arguments. These people may be doing work in tribal areas,but they are more
active inside the church. Missionary work is to be done for those who havent
heard about Christ. Not to those who are Christians.These people are focusing
more on questioning our tradition and practises.Encouraging such organisations
will detrimentally affect our Holy Church.We should refrain from co-operating
and praying with them.

Dear Reji and Moderators of the SOCM- Forum

It is indeed the Grace of God that we have finished six years of selfless
service. During the last 6 years you have extented a meritorious service to the
Church by handing over so much valuable information and knowledge. Meanwhile the
Forum has become a recognized and trustworthy medium of our church. The number
of Bishops who read it regularly and who has written the birthday greetings
prove this fact. May God make it still bigger, may it contribute more and more
to the mother church through His help. And Reji, the immense and selfless work
done by you and the other moderators is pleasant to God. The growth of the Forum
is just an evidence to that.
