Today with Jesus

“Weep with those who weep.” (Romans 12:15)

The real therapy for my Cancer is the presence of my husband and children at my
side.

Weeping and sharing the pain of others make us healthier and see the world as
Jesus does. This is an invitation for our own good and relief of pain to the
inviter. When Jesus was deeply distressed and troubled at the time of his death
at Gethsemane for the sins of the world, He had invited his disciples to “watch
and pray.” Finding them asleep after his prayers, He said to Peter, “Simon, are
you asleep? Could you not keep watch for one hour? (Mark 14). When we pray for
others who are in pain, Jesus stands with us in solidarity. He shares our pains.
Our homes, churches, and neighbourhoods should vibrate with the “watch and pray”
attitude.

When Lillian, the famous paediatric radiologist was diagnosed with the third
stage of lymphoma, her busy engineer husband, John took time off from work and
was at her side for five years. He was with during her  bone-biting painful
treatments and rehabilitation. She used to say, “The presence and help of my
husband and my children are the real healing for my excruciating pain, darkness,
fear, doubts and anger.”

Prayer: Jesus, let us weep with those who are in tears. Let us not desert others
in pain. Let us help anyone and everyone in our homes, churches and
neighbourhood. We pray for all the couples, children and friends who are at the
side of those who are in tears to pray and help like John and his children. All
we ask in the name of Jesus. Amen.

A young boy named Riley started a fight with Avery on the school
playground after a soccer match. The teacher broke it up, and both boys
were sent to the principal’s office. Later, Avery said, “And of course,
like always, we both got in trouble.” But he shared that he learned a
lesson: “God is always with us, even if we get in as much trouble as
this.”
The nation of Israel was in big trouble. Yet the Lord promised the nation’s
new leader: “I will not leave you nor forsake you” (Josh. 1:5). Joshua
was taking over leadership of the Israelites after Moses’ death, just
before they were to enter the Promised Land. Trouble was on the horizon
with numerous military campaigns against their enemies coming up (8:3;
9:1-2). Without God’s presence, they couldn’t begin to acquire the land.
Joshua had a strong faith in the Lord, as seen when he spied out the land of
Canaan (Num. 14:6-9). But God graciously gave him the reminder as he
took over the leadership role that he could be courageous because of His
presence. He promises the same to His children today (Heb. 13:5-6).
It’s a comforting lesson for God’s children of all ages to know: The Lord is
always with us. Even when we’re in “as much trouble as this.” —Anne

“Break the arm of the wicked and evil men.” (Psalm 10:15)

Don't just shun teen pregnancy but help stop it.

All evils are to be shunned and despised as Jesus does. This world is inclined
towards evil and its works. One of the worst evils is teenage pregnancy.  Many
teens are exploited because of their poverty and  innocence to be dumped in a
world of tears. This evil cycle can be broken by education, rehabilitation and
spiritual awakening combined with timely intervention by the state holders for
eradicating its circumstances. Parents, church leaders, schools and relatives
have a great responsibility for the eradication of this evil and have to accept 
the victims with kindness and love.  Instead of despising and cursing the
darkness around in this world, we should light the lamp of Jesus in love, and
not do this for fame or money.  We can face the wicked because we do not face
them alone; God is by our side.

Catalina Escobar, herself a victim, is helping young moms in Colombia, where one
in five girls aged 15 to 19 is or has been pregnant. Since 2002, her foundation
has provided counselling, education and job training to more than 2000 teenage
mothers. “Teenage pregnancy is a world poverty problem and we have developed
models of intervention that break the cycle,” Escobar said. “I want to share it
with people around the world.”

Prayer:  Jesus, let us be pro-active and not be spectators at the evils, like
teenage pregnancy. Let all the circumstances to this evil be removed. We pray
for people like Escobar to have the strength to move on with their missions
among teenage moms. Let the teenage moms be consoled and get on with their
lives.   All we ask in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Statement issued by the Holy Synod of the Syriac Orthodox Church of Antioch
10 - 14 September 2012
St. Jacob Baradaeus Monastery
Atchaneh, Bekfayya, Lebanon

The Holy Synod held its meeting at St. Jacob Baradaeus monastery in Atchaneh -
Bekfayya, Lebanon from September 10 - 14, 2012. It was headed by His Holiness
Patriarch Mor Ignatius Zakka 1, Iwas, Patriarch of Antioch and all the East and
the supreme Head of the universal Syriac Orthodox Church. The Holy Synod started
with opening prayers and supplications to God Who blessed and eased the assembly
of the Synod in Atchaneh. It is the second time the Holy Synod is being convened
in Atchaneh. The first one was in September of 1971.

The Synod was attended by their Eminences the Metropolitans of the holy See of
Antioch from all over the world. They discussed the situation of the church in
general and in the Middle East in particular specially in Syria, Iraq, and
Lebanon, those countries that are facing turbulent times. They prayed for them
to have peace and tranquility among all people from all denominations, sects,
religions, and ethnicities. They also asked the Lord to have mercy on the souls
of all who perished in this conflict and for the speedy recovery of all the
wounded, and for reunion of all refugees and sufferers.

The Fathers, members of the Holy Synod, stressed that the Middle East countries
are our countries which we are proud of its sacred land and soil. In it our Lord
Jesus Christ was born and lived, as well as our forefather long time ago where
they established the first civilization in the world and we share nowadays our
life and destiny with our brethren. We regret the chaos and troubles marring
this land causing the endangerment of life of people, disrespect to their
dignity, desecration to their worshipping homes and their religious, social, and
national institutions.

It greatly pains the Fathers what is happening in our beloved Syria these days,
the country that carries our name, civilization, traditions, and embraces our
Holy See of Antioch. They pray the situation will become calm and peace will
spread among people. From the position of responsibility, the Fathers call upon
all sides to stop the violence, the language of weaponry, killings, and
infringements of all kinds. They call for a peaceful dialogue which is the base
of every reform or solution to the present crisis. In this regard, they want to
emphasize that the sole official spokesman for our church is the Holy Synod of
the Syriac Orthodox Church of Antioch headed by His Holiness, our Patriarch. He
represents our church and our people at the local, regional, and international
arenas, albeit all over the world.

The holy Fathers expressed their confidence that the people of good conscience
and goodwill can best offer their prayers and supplications to God to lessen the
burden of these difficult times on the people, asking Him for safe return of all
refugees to their homes, assuring that immigration is a murderous bleeding which
abolishes our personality, threatens our existence in the land of our
forefathers, and destroys our esteemed traditions.

The Fathers discussed the agenda of the meeting which included: The present
situation of the church in the Middle East and in India, our Archdioceses
worldwide, our role in the ecumenical movement, the Easter date, the role of the
laity in the service of the church, and other matters serving people and
countries. They concluded the Holy Synod urging the faithful to endure and take
refuge in God because the requests of the faithful will be answered by heaven.
They ask, in the beginning and the end, to take the path of the word and
dialogue as a principle which leads us to the safe haven, so that whoever works
for peace will be rewarded by God Who said: Blessed are the peace makers for
they shall be called the children of God." (Mathew 5:9)

Inaugural ceremony of SEUSOMM chapter in the Syriac Orthodox Archdiocese in 
United Kingdom held on 05 August 2012.

Archbishop  Mor Athanasius Toma Dawod, Metropolitan for Mission in
Brazil His Eminence Mor Theethose Paulos, Very Rev. Raban Ephrem Ozan
and Very Rev. Fr. Ishak Tuza and several faithfuls attended the event at
  the St. Thomas Syriac Orthodox Cathedral in London.

The Last Verse of the Book of Psalms

The last verse of the book of Psalms is: “Let everything that has breath
praise the LORD. Praise the LORD!” This blessed me this eve as I read Ps. 150
and prayed with the family. Lord, I have breath – I thank you. This is enough
for me to be praising you: that you have given me breath. My breath is in you
hand, Lord. Oh let me thank you and praise you, and keep thanking you and
praising you as long as I have breath, Lord.

As we praise the Lord from a thankful and humble heart (just for having the
breath of life), it is as if a fragrance ascends toward heaven. We have joy as
we give thanks and praise, and we are filled with the Spirit, Eph. 5:18-20.
Lord, let me praise you and keep praising you with joy.

might go to anoint Jesus’ body.”(Mathew 16:1)

Capitan,  the dog, Guards  his Master’s grave  6 years !   “until he dies too.”
13  year old son  of the master

Love is the basic instinct of all  living bodies for its existence. Love lost, 
the death is warranted. The  perfect progeny of living beings are the end result
of  love making. Love in any forms is beautiful and  heavenly. With out love any
venture , steps,  thoughts, words are   to be shunned and arrested. For love 
all hurdles are   crossable with its hurts and  blood.  For true love there is
no end- everlasting. Jesus  is the  lover  who  transmits  it  by his  presence 
in spirit with in all the human  bodies. He died , buried, resurrected ,
accented and  then descended on  human beings  by the holy spirit  and has been
living  among them for his love. “ I will not leave you  and   desert you.”
Where is our love  in our  daily life? Are we busy no to  love and to be loved
and be justified?  Are we away from the basic – to love and to be loved? For why
are  we busy?-  Is it for Hatred  ,Hell ,and Death! The loving women of Jesus
purchased the spices on Saturday evening after the Sabbath had ended so they 
could go to the tomb early the  next morning and anoint Jesus’ body as a sign of
love, devotion, and respect. Are we away from the  tomb of our  fellow beings
even to show this kind of love  by not to be at  their  tomb even  at the
memorials?

The German shepherd Dog, Capitan has stood guard over his master’s grave for 6
years since 2006. He ran away from home after his master Miguel Guzman died in
2006. When Guzman’s family visited the grave after the funeral, they found the 
dog sitting on it. Capitan has grieved and literally crying at his  masters tomb
at the cemetery in the Villa Carlos  Paz in Central Argentina. Cemetery’s
director  Hector Baccega says,” he turned up here one day, all his own, and
started wandering all around the cemetery until he eventually found the  tomb of
his master. During the day he sometimes has a walk around the cemetery, but
always rushes back to the grave.. And every day, at 6 of clock sharp, he lies
down on top of the grave stays there all night. Staff at the  cemetery began
feeding the dog out of compassion..” relatives have tried to bring Capitan back
home, but each time the dog returns to his master’s  grave.  Damian, 13 year old
son of Guzman said: “ I’ve tried to bring Capitan home several times, but he
always comes straight back to the cemetery. I think he’s going to be there until
he dies too. He’s  looking after my dad.”

Prayer. Jesus let us love and die than hate and live. Let us respect the bodies
of our  fellow beings. Let all the living beings   stay closer to closer in love
than  to  kill and eat themselves. We pray for the   love of the  dog Capitan
and all those respect the  bodies of  friends and relatives in  love for  Jesus.

All we ask in the name of Jesus. Amen.

The Dead Sea Scrolls, discovered in the late 1940s, contain the oldest
known copies of the Hebrew Bible (the Old Testament). For decades, the
scrolls have been carefully guarded and their use often restricted to a
small group of scholars. In an effort to preserve the ancient fragments
while broadening access to them, the Israel Antiquities Authority, in
partnership with Google, is making high-resolution images of the
2,000-year-old scrolls available to everyone online.
That’s good news for scholars and curious students alike. It’s also a
reminder of the great treasure we currently possess in the Bible itself.
Throughout Psalm 119, the writer celebrates the eternal nature and
life-changing wisdom of God’s Word. At the heart of today’s passage, the
writer declares, “I will never forget Your precepts, for by them You
have given me life” (v.93).
Many of us have had a Bible almost all our lives, yet how much time do we
spend in reading and studying it? How deeply do we think about the
meaning of familiar passages?
Why not make Bible reading a priority each day? Ask God to guide, teach,
and strengthen you through His written Word. This amazing resource is

“A new command I give you: Love one another.  As I have loved you, so you must
love one another.” (John 13:34)

“She does not know me, but I still know who she is.”- Husband of an Alzheimer
patient.

Love, is an experience of ecstasy that is not put in words, but in action. True
love is neither physical nor romantic, true love is an acceptance of all that
is, has been, will be, and will not be.  We can judge an action - is it in true
spirit of love by its motive of the doers and who are its   beneficiaries? 
Motive should be the Christ’s - sacrificial.  The beneficiaries should be the
weakest link in the society.   This can be, should be, and has always been as
long as we are at the command of Jesus, not Satan. Christ says that our
Christ-like love will show that we are his disciples.

It was around 8.30 am on a busy day that a man in his 80’s arrived to have
stitches removed from his thumb. He said that he was in a hurry as he had an
appointment at 9 am. While the doctor was removing the sutures and redressing
his wounds, he asked him why he was in such a hurry. The man told the doctor
that he needed to go to the nursing home to have breakfast with his wife. He
continued that she was a victim of Alzheimer’s disease and has not been able to
recognize him since 5 years ago. The doctor was surprised and asked him, “And
you still go every morning, even though she does not know who you are?”  He
smiled and replied, “She does not know me, but I still know who she is.”

This is the love we need, but rare to see in our homes, churches, hospitals and
work place.

Prayer:  Jesus, let us love one another as you have loved us. Let us not be
pretenders, but be genuine in our love for others.  We pray for all Alzheimer
patients. We pray for the man of love who is at the services of his sick wife
even though she can’t recognize him. Let your kingdom of love abide in our homes
and churches. All we ask in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Dear Dr. Thomas Joseph,

Regarding the entry of a priest to the Holy Sanctuary, you asked a question
that, why a priest cannot start moving up with his right foot first. The answer
is, it is our tradition to start everything with left and end up with right.
Remember when we draw the cross on ourselves, we do the same. When the priest
wear the holy vestments like the "msone" (ceremonial shoes - *cheruppu*),
"zende" (sleeves -* kaiyyura*) etc. the left one is worn first. Furthermore,
when the priest take a turn in the sanctuary ( for incensing, shubkono etc.), he
take an anticlockwise sequence, i.e., starting with left side and end up at the
right side. I think these symbolizes the process of Christ reforming us 'the
children of left' (of the evil)  to 'the children of right' (of the Divine).

The Bahrain St. Peter's Jacobite Syrain Orthodox Church organized a "Home Land
Get-together Programme, named ST. PETER'S DAY - 2012" on 18th August 2012 for
our Ex- Patriarchal Vicars, Ex-Vicars and Ex-Members, to meet and renew their
bond of friendship, while they were associated with the Church in Bahrain.  The
meeting was conducted at Karingachira St. George Cathedral's Parish hall and was
attended by Bishops H.G. Pathros Mor Osthatheos (Present Patriarchal Vicar),
H.G. Geevargis Mor Athanasios (Past Patriarchal Vicar), H.G. Kuriakose Mor
Dioscors (Past Vicar), Cor Episcopas V.Rev. Mathews Cor Episocpa
Vadakkeparambil, Anjilithanam, V.Rev. P.J. Joseph Cor Episcopa, Vazhamuttam, Fr.
Darly Edappangattil, Fr. Varghese Palayil, Fr. Samson Kuriakose, Fr. Rijo Joseph
Kochukunnel, Fr. Paul Mathew, Fr. Thomas Nediyapalackal and the Church's present
Vicar Fr. Benny Abraham, Secretary Chev. Thomas Abraham, Joint Secretary Mr.
Benny T. Jacob and Committee Member Mr. Jaison K.

The meeting started with prayer and proceeded with reading the blessing message
of H.B. Baselius Thomas 1, Catholicose of the Church in India and lighting the
lamp.  The Secretary Chev. Thomas Abraham then welcomed all Bishops, priests and
members, who attended the function.  The present Patriarchal Vicar prayed for
the departed Bishops and members who served in the Church.  Mr. Jacob P.
Varghese also rememberd the departed members of the Church.  In his inaguaral
speech, the present Patriarchal Vicar H.G. Pathros Mor Osthatheos congratulated
the present Managing Committee and members of St. Peter's JSO Church, for
arranging such a wonderful get-together, in order to renew the bond of
friendship and love of the ex-members of the Church.  All the attended Bishops,
Ex-Vicars and members also expressed their joy and appreciation to the
initiative of the Church. It was an emotional get-together for many members, who
came across from North to South of Kerala to meet many of the ex-members after
several years.

The founder members of the Church Mr. George  K. and Mr. George Kaithavana and
Mrs. Kunjamma Issac also gave emotional speeches on the occasion. The ex-members
vowed to have such meetings often and authorized Mr. Jacob P. Varghese and Mr.
Sunny Joseph to organize it.  Miss Sherin Mary Elias, Miss Naomy Johns, Miss
Anitha Benny, Miss. Riya Raju and Miss Ridha Raju sang lovely songs on the
occasion and entertained the audience.  Miss Manju Mary Thomas and Miss Sruthi
Beesa Sunny were acting as the M.C. of the event.  Mr. Sunny Joseph gave the
vote of thanks to all participants of the get-together. A sumptous lunch was
also arranged after the meet.

For where there are envy, strife, and divisions among you, are you not carnal
and behaving like mere men? —1 Corinthians 3:3

The story is told of two shopkeepers who were bitter rivals. They spent each day
keeping track of each other’s business. If one got a customer, he would smile
triumphantly at his rival.
One night an angel appeared to one of the shopkeepers in a dream and said, “I
will give you anything you ask, but whatever you receive, your competitor will
receive twice as much. What is your desire?” The man frowned and then said,
“Strike me blind in one eye.” Now that’s jealousy of the worst kind!
The self-destructive emotion of jealousy had the potential of tearing apart the
Corinthian church. These believers had received the gospel but had not allowed
the Holy Spirit to change their hearts. As a result, they became jealous of one
another, which led to a divided community. Paul identified their jealousy as a
sign of immaturity and worldliness (1 Cor. 3:3). These believers were not acting
like people who had been transformed by the gospel.
One of the clearest indicators that the Holy Spirit is working in our lives is
our contentment and our thankfulness for what we have. Then, instead of
experiencing jealousy, we are able to genuinely celebrate the gifts and
blessings of others. —Marvin Williams
God, You are so good! You have provided all
we need and so much more. Help us to be content
with what we have, knowing that without You
we would have neither life nor breath.

China sacks ‘smiling official’.

Few acts are as cruel as making fun ad taking satisfaction at the calamities and
down fall of our fellow beings and the less fortunate. We are all God’s
creation. God does not like his children who is brought by his own blood perish
in any form. If we mock the poor and smile at the calamities instead of being
the good Samaritans, then we need to be condemned and punished here, and here
after. Modern self- centered world is not immune but prone to this sorrowful
condition. People takes it as entertainment and media gets an item when any
tragedy happens. It’s deplorable. Especially, we, Christians and all others with
a conscience need to act on these issues.

A safety official in China who sparked a public outcry after images showed him
at the scene of a fatal bus crash, has been sacked. Yang Dacai has been stripped
of all his official duties for “serious wrong doing”. Pictures of Mr. Yang
smiling while visiting the site where 36 people died on 26th August 2012 were
posted on line. Outrage grew when Chinese netizens found images of him wearing
luxury watches. Officials are still further investigating “trials of Mr Yang’s
other wrong doings.

Prayer:  Jesus, let us be good Samaritans at the scene of tears and calamities,
and not smile or be happy at others' sorrows. Let our society act rightfully to
disapprove the wrong doings of people who gloat or rejoice at the fall of the
less fortunate. We pray for the bold steps of all the civic bodies and the
justice systems taken to punish and sack such people.  . All we ask in the name
of Jesus. Amen.

My wife, Martie, is a great shopper. When she shops for groceries, she
reads all the nutrition labels and considers the best deal by looking at the
price per unit. But her best trick is looking for the “use by”
date. She doesn’t just grab the first gallon of milk she sees, but
rather she goes for the gallon with the latest “use by” date so she can
bring home the freshest milk from the store.
In a sense, our lives are marked by “use by” dates—except that none of us
knows the exact date when our heart will expire or we’ll take our last
breath on this planet. Given that reality, shouldn’t we try a little
harder to capture the moments we’ve been given? Capturing the moment
means that we’ll do things like love more deeply, forgive more quickly,
listen more carefully, and speak more affirmingly.
Paul gives this good advice: “See then that you walk circumspectly, not as
fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil” (Eph.
5:15-16). He also instructs us to “walk as children of light . . .
finding out what is acceptable to the Lord” (vv.8-10).

“Do not drink with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, let the Holy
Spirit fill and control you.” ( Ephesians 5:18)

“We can change an apathetic culture of teenage driving and drinking” - victim’s
father.

Medical science without any doubt clarifies that drinking in any form for any
ages is not desirable for a healthy living. Alcohol in any form is more
dangerous than any type of drugs available. It is a major factor in three
leading causes of death for people aged 15-24 - car crashes, murder, and
suicide. Even 75% of rapes happens when at least one person involved is under
the influence of alcohol. Alcohol leads to dehydration, dulled senses, decreased
reaction time, impaired judgement, impaired memory club with weight gain, and
mostly death when one is drunk and driving. The Bible speaks clearly that
drinking is a sin. Some group of Christians ban any use of alcohol since it
pulls away the people from a good relationship with God. Some others do modest
drinking and consider drinking itself not wrong

(justification: After all Jesus turned water into wine). But the Bible and the
medical science outright ban all types of intoxicated drinks, wine or beer.
Social alcoholic drink parties should be shunned. Christian homes, meeting
places and churches should be devoid of alcohol. Parents should not tempt the
teenagers in this regard. Whatever we can do to stop teenage drinking, we should
do it now.  Otherwise it will be out of control resulting in death, destruction
and tears.

In memory of his daughter who was killed by a drunken driver in 2007, Leo Mac
Cathy started “Mariah’s Challenge.” The non-profit organization give college
scholarships to teenagers who pledge not to drink while they are underage.
Nearly $150,000 has been awarded as scholarship money.  “We can change an
apathetic culture of teenage drinking and driving,” Mac Cathy said. “Hopefully,
one day we will not need ‘Mariah’s Challenge’.

Prayer:  Jesus let us fill ourselves with the Holy Spirit and not with the
spirit of alcohol. We pray for all those who are addicted to drinks to come out
from its satanic and poisonous web. We pray for the families who are suffering
with this problem. We pray for the people and organizations who are at the
service of Jesus to stop teenage drinking, like Mac Cathy’s ‘Mariah’s
Challenge’. All we ask in the name of Jesus. Amen.

CARPENTER AT THE RIGHT OF VASTHU
I remember old carpenter coming to plots of land and determining the right place
to construct a house. I have noticed many plots which are more than two acres
being discarded and another 25 cents bought for a house where the vastu is good.
The discarded plots are later bought by others and subdivided in to many parcels
and huge houses built.I have seen people living happily in vasthu-less houses
with three square meals a day. I do not know. May be the old carpenter was
looking for a nice spot where the indwellers would be eating only tapioca and
hot pepper chutney; and hence the carpenter could not identify the spot.

When the carpenter does a pooja for spotting or for placing the uttharam, he is
invoking demons. The demons claim rights over the house and the people inside.
In the future when their children or grand children or others demolish the house
to build a larger one; these demons get uncomfortable and miss-haps happens. I
have come across people saying that someone would die if their house is
demolished; as per the carpenter. We believe in carpenter at the house and Jesus
in the church. We believe in the sacrament of matrimony if the timing is as per
the soothsayer. We see church leaders who have the icons of Jesus and other
native gods.  Jesus stretched out His hands on the cross for sinners; we stretch
out our hands at parties to receive sin and idol worshiping.

We assign a side for the thief who was hanged with Jesus. The scripture does not
say right or left. But he proclaimed that Jesus is Lord and messiah who will
return as the King. This is his ORTHO(RIGHT)-DOX(FAITH). It is the
sthuthy-chovvakkapetta-viswasamť. In Mathew we read that our Lord will tell the
lamb on the RIGHT to inherit the kingdom. Is it not the believers who are RIGHT
with
Jesus?  I do not know. I am only a deacon. I do know from physics that I can
stand only at one angle; which is the Right Angle. But I can fall in any angle I
choose.

In Deuteronomy 9-12; we read; ťWhen you enter the land the Lord your God is
giving you, do not learn to imitate the detestable ways of the nations there.
Let no one be found among you who sacrifices their son or daughter in the fire,
who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or
casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone
who does these things is detestable to the Lord; because of these same
detestable practices the Lord your God will drive out those nations before youť.

Did we lose our purpose then? to believe and preach awanavente-viswasam
awanawane-rakshikkumť. With no mission of evangelization? Did we preach that
different cultures name the same god differently; but it is the same? Did we
pour filthy water in to the precious blood of Jesus and the holy bloods of all
the martyrs; just for tea and parippuvada?  Is the spirit of the holy martyrs
against us? As said in Rev.6: 9-10. I do not know.
